John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Fridays scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen, McCain said.
This is bold and very presidential (but risky as well). I’m sure Obama won’t take the bait, he’s too programmed to even come up with an economic plan for several days after coaching by his 300 advisors, LOLOL!
It’s McCain’s chance to show the American public that he means what he says when he puts “Country First”, unlike the other guy who sometimes talks a good game when he’s in front of a teleprompter. But this is a clear signal that he’s willing to roll up his sleeves, work, fight for our interests, and I have to admit, I’m impressed.
As far as the debates getting delayed, so what? This one was already in the works on NON-economic issues, and it doesn’t deal with the crisis we’re facing, so it would be not very engaging on the issues. I think it would be hilarious if Obama insists on keeping the debate regardless of the “ground game” we’re playing now instead of working on the people’s problems. LOLOLOL!
>Or the one that had Bush at 15% on election late afternoon 2004
People dump shares on election day. The Romney example was appropiate.

BWAHAHAHAH
you are EXACTLY correct, except the weasels KNEW ‘anti-redlining’ being forced on them was a bad idea, yet they went along with it to line their own pockets.
There are some banks who did NOT go along and they are doing fine, and they shoul dbe mighty pissed that their competitors are going to get bailout.
I say let them fail. In a free moarkey SOMEONE will make loans and buy the houses being foreclosed (heck I am looking at some right now)
SYMB
The only word I heard (I just googled) is that the fake one called McCains people this morning so that they can issue a joint “statement” about the economy. That is all.
If McCain thought that was a stupid idea and it was better to suspend his campaign to address this crisis, he certainly does not need fake ones permission, nor guidance, to do so.
You have an extremely short memory. Sen McCain pushed the surge in Iraq as a way to win and has been one of the chief voices in the Senate against pork spending for years. Shame you are so shortsighted that you forgot two of the most important issues.
He also called for overhaul of Wall Street which was ignored. Sen John McCain is one of the biggest fiscal conservatives on the Hill — obviously you don’t follow politics. Any Conservative will tell you on the military and pork spending McCain leads.
i think strategy was the last thing on his mind. I think he was doing what he felt was right, doing what the taxpayers pay him to do (a lesson that Barry seems to have forgotten).
This will resonate with the people.
Says WHO? Oh it was the Obama spokesperson? Well then that settles it, doesn't it?
There are some banks who did NOT go along and they are doing fine, and they should be mighty pissed that their competitors are going to get bailout.
I say let them fail. In a free market SOMEONE will make loans and buy the houses being foreclosed (heck I am looking at some right now)
Personally, I would like to think that this issue has transcended politics and that McCain was not sending a out a salvo, but in total comprehension of this potential crisis.
However, if he was, it is absolutely a brilliant and masterful political one-up-manship shot!
I send the good Senator, a long rant back in 2005 about his leaning towards AGW and vowed to defend the planks of the republican party against his maverick butt, but he just may be the man to lead at this time.
He certainly got the right woman for his LT.
John McCain's request to delay campaigning and this week's debate is:
An effort to help the economy
27% (1037)
A political gimmick
70% (2707)
Something else
3% (135)
I think McCain suspending his campaign and returning to DC will play well during the debate on the economy—too bad many can’t see Country First!
Remember the words: I’d rather lose an Election Than Lose a War...this decision is ALL MCCAIN. Go JOHN!
He should not even worry about the MSM.
I wonder if Biden will now tell us stories of Abe Lincoln’s famous Vaudeville routine.
McCain has his own plan which is outlined on here if you had bothered to check.
I would have been a thorn in the side of the GOP if I was in the Senate as have my two Senators Inhofe and Coburn who oppose pork spending and supported Sen McCain on the surge.
Better yet, tie the economy and foreign policy together, as they already are...show the viewers that there is a link.

Yeah, and he voted against the Bush tax cut. Oh, and he supports legislature to deal with Global Warming.
