WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI searched the residence of the son of a Democratic state lawmaker in Tennessee over the weekend looking for evidence linking the young man to the hacking of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's personal e-mail account, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press on Monday.

doubt the father was involved....his son probably wanted to do something to please him. He is probably just a busy working father without time for his kid.
The “hack” wasn’t much of one anyway....all he did supposedly was reset the password....something anybody could do if your questions are publicly known and not personal enough.

That said, Hitlery knew damn well her man had been unfaithful many times over...she was only upset he got CAUGHT! Same with this incident. No doubt old daddy would be high-fiving his son if no one ever found out.

I would be willing to bet that if they can find evidence of this crime on his computer, that the FBI is going to find that this kid has been using his computer to commit a lot of other crimes. I'd bet he has done this kind of hacking hundreds of times and that he has illegally downloaded music on his computer and there will be evidence of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony among his compadres.
Unless he was able to successfully destroy all the evidence and incinerate his hard drives, this kid is going to be looking at some hard time.
I was going to say the same thing. I like Judge Napolitano, but I doubt this is the first time the kid has done something illegal. (Gaining access to a VP candidate's e-mail on the very first try at hacking? I doubt it.) Unless he smashed his hard drive into little pieces, and he managed to get rid of the little pieces, the FBI has the evidence. At the very least, dad is going to be on the hook for thousands in lawyers' fees.
If he’s at all associated with the “Oprah 9000” deal even the Democrats will want him put away for a few years.

You are aware, aren't you, that downloading music is a copyright violation which is has civil penalties and is not a criminal act?

He did a little bit more than that. He stole her personal email and published it on the internet, along with her personal phone numbers, and the email addresses and cell phone numbers of her minor children.
Look it up. The group this kid is affiliated with (according to other Freeper threads) was involved in playing Oprah’s head.
And just how do you think this kid could afford this high priced lawyer to defend him? This is a Democrat problem and Obama’s team fingerprints is all over it.
What everybody seems to be missing is that there are special laws against threatening presidents and vice-presidents and those running for office. I'm sure that the Secret Service has a lot of options to smack down this offender.

I don't know Alaska law, but in theory I would think that a state would have a right to go after someone who who committed information theft against the governor. The Feds would pursue their charges, and Alaska would also have a bite at the apple if its laws allowed it.
Its not like your going to get a conviction in 50 days anyways. This is a rpetty bad situation for this punk. Not only are the Feds involved, but Yahoo also has a reputation to keep that they aren't pissing your private information out to any idiot. Felony liability is not the result of every unauthorized reproduction or distribution of at least 10 copies or phonorecords having a retail value of more than $2,500 within a 180-day period. First, infringement must be established. Next, the Government must prove that the infringement was done with the requisite mens rea. Unless both these requirements are met, no criminal liability-misdemeanor or felony-will lie, regardless of the number of unauthorized copies or phonorecords that have been reproduced or distributed. In cases where civil liability is unclear-whether because the law is unsettled, or because a legitimate business dispute exists- the Committee does not intend to establish criminal liability.
As I said, downloading music is not a criminal act.
