Mod note: Do no post any screenshots of Governor Palin's Yahoo account on Free Republic.
Thank you.
On the heels of media reports that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was using a private Yahoo e-mail account (gov.palin@yahoo.com) to conduct Alaska state business, hackers have broken into the account and posted evidence of the hijack on Wikileaks.
An activist group calling itself anonymous claimed responsibility for the compromise and released screenshots, photographs and the e-mail addresses of several people close to Palin, including her husband Todd and assistant Ivy Frye.

Why is this not being reported in the MSM as the very serious crime that it is?
It is no different legally than if felons had broken into her home and stolen her personal files.
Reporting of any of the contents of the stolen email is a disgrace to the publisher.
Already presented in thread...see the Anchorage Daily News link article.
I’m not technically savvy, but does it require inside assistance from Yahoo for someone to hack into such an account.
I am convinced these people intend to try to make our nation ungovernable if the election doesn’t go their way.
They have made much headway in this strategy since 2001, by attacking President Bush, VP Cheney, many good men and women serving in government, and by belittling every institution that reflects any of our traditional values.
I guess the question is whether there are enough people with backbone in the Congress and other agencies of govt, as well as cultural leaders, to finally say “enough” and return these liberal fanatics to the margins instead of the mainstream of the democrat party rule.
Sarah! knows how to use email? Wow, that makes her EVEN MORE qualified than already knew!
I read the article. Accusations, without evidence, are not proof, unless, of course, you subscribe to the Dan Rather theory of journalism -- i.e. it's the "seriousness of the charge," rather than the evidence, that's important.
I really think you should drop the pretense of being a Palin supporter.
Yeah, because her people up in Alaska have been nothing but truthful and honest since she was nominated.
How many different versions of Troopergate do we have from her now?
Give the 4chan kids time, they’ll list it out.
A full day now and still no condemnation from Team Obama.
Speaks volumes really.
I’d like to know who was behind this and its made public....
What is the punishment you would suggest for those who are ignorant of the difference between hackers and crackers/script kiddies? ;-)
I was likely a Palin supporter far before you were.
So why not file a FOIA-type request and see the same thing that the newspaper is reporting. If it’s made up, you can sting them. Somehow, though, I think the messages are real.
BTW, McLeod is a Republican.
I don’t know, but in reading the documentation, it does seem that the trooper should have been gone LONG ago. Gov. Palin might have believed a bit of hearsay that supported her sister, but the bottom line is that the trooper should be facing charges now, for such things as illegal hunting, etc., regardless of the spousal accusations.
4Chan = 4Change = Obama Campaign and his Army of Creeps is behind this.
Obama Campagin = Army of Creeps.
That’s the spin and I’m sticking to it.
The Obama people will try right off the bat “aw, these are just a bunch of kids, bla bla bla.”
The counter to that is; “Yes, and that is the point. This is simply more proof that the entire Obama campaign is made up of a bunch of out-of-control, immature, petty, juvenile kids who have no business with their fingers on the proverbial nuclear button”.
There is some truth to that. There is a juvenile mentality surrounding Obama.
Oh, I have a very good understanding between the differences.
Sounds like you are trying to legitimize hacking.
“Oh, NO”, you are going to say, we’re finidng the weak spots
and vulnerabilities in customers code. Yeah, I understand that. I understand software security, code optimization, etc... That is NOT what is being discussed here.
The difference between hackers and “kiddie scripting” is the amount of damage done.
When a pop-up appears that says UserID and Password, if it isn’t YOUR userID than you have NO FREAKIN BUSINESS trying to get in (unless of course you are the sysadmin, which is NOT what we are talking about). Attempts to bypass passwords are akin to burgulary and breaking and entering. It is ATTEMPTED ROBBERY.
The method is different, the end result is the same - Unauthorized access to private information. I don’t care about intent and I don’t care what they are called.
A “Password” prompt is a big red stop sign with a policeman standing there. Any attempt to go beyond that point is a flagrant violation of the law. Violators should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Punishment? Educate them on the damage that hackers do the computer/telecom industry
But, again, they could make up anything they liked and say it was an email from the governor’s account.
