She's not in the news much this week, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's pregnant 17-year-old daughter Bristol is still the talk of conservative groups, especially family organizations. And while the buzz is still positive over her decision to have the baby and even marry the 18-year-old father, there's no sympathy for their out-of-wedlock sex that landed both of them in the headlines. The subject was addressed today by Family Research Council President Tony Perkins when he was asked during a media roundtable if he would have been so forgiving if one of Sen. Barack Obama's daughters were to get pregnant. "If Barack Obama's daughter or anybody found themselves in the same position and made that same decision we would give that same response," he says. Actually, he was asked about conservative groups "rallying around" Bristol, to which Perkins says, "The rallying around . . . was in that this is a problem that knows no barrier in our society. It happens to the wealthiest and poorest of families. It is a real problem that we have a teenage pregnancy problem in our society. Now, there are two choices you can make when that happens. You can bring that child to term and have a baby, and give it up for adoption or keep it, or you can abort that child. Obviously, being consistent with what we believe is a true pro-life perspective, is give that child birth."
But, he added, "We were not applaudingI don't think anybody was applaudingthe fact that their daughter became pregnant out of wedlock. What they were rallying around is the fact that even though she made a poor choice, she made a good choice in giving that child the right to life. Some will say that that was a political decision that her mom obviously forced her into. The daughter was in her fifth month of pregnancy, so this had nothing to do with being vice president."
Then he focused on teen sex and said that churches and parents have to figure out a better way to help kids understand the implications of it. "The pregnancy is not the problem. The problem is the decision to engage in, as young people who are emotionally unprepared and economically unprepared . . . an activity that can produce another life. There are emotional issues that are attached to that type of behavior," says Perkins. "It is a decision that is going to impact the rest of their life."
How true!
Last I heard, Bristol was not running for anything, and has acted more adult than most RAT supporters are capable of acting.
I don’t approve of teenage sex, but it happens. I don’t want to be part of the crowd either that had the rocks pointed at the Virgin Mary either, so disapprove the behavior, but never reject the teenager. Too many times people confuse the two.
The marriage ceremony wasn’t even invented until the 3rd or 4th century AD.
From the standpoint of strict biblical interpretation, copulation itself is the act of “marriage”. The marriage ceremony just formalizes this union.
That is, you marry the first person with whom you have sex. All sexual relations with another person are adultery.
I love when the silly Libs try to tell us what to think....lolol
I don’t approve of it either. All I was trying to say was we should discuss the topic and not the child.
Waiting for marriage creates a stronger marriage and stronger family bonds.
This is why the left promotes pre-marital sex.
Shot gun weddings were not that uncommon in years back
Premarital nookie, even when you go ahead and marry your sweetie, still cheapens the ultimate union. Of course, the common thing today is not to marry, but to go on to somebody else, and then another and another ad nauseam until most couples have a string of exes on both sides. It's hard enough to love when you have only loved one; what is it like when that flawed individual must compete for your attention with a Louvre of sexual memories (all made glowingly positive by the passage of time)?
I remember in the Sixties when the slick mags were promoting the sexual revolution by talking about "victimless crimes". Apparently, what consenting adults did behind closed doors harmed no one, therefore no one had the right to complain of it. What do we say now that we know what the harm is?
The answer seems to be, we're not allowed to talk about it. That's "imposing" values.
This is enough about Bristol Palin. We all know that she had sex out of marriage, and is pregnant;”
Stanley Ann Dunham had sex out of marriage and got pregnant.
Where’s the outrage over that????
Plus there was a little problem of color differences——IN 1960!!! That was a big problem in 1960!!!
If Obama's family is anything like the "libs" in my extented family, the young woman would get pressured into having an abortion & her parents would not give up until she gave in to the pressure.
Ha! I was going to direct you to this numbingly mind-bending psychoanalysis from a liberal-wacko point of view:
FR: "What makes people vote Republican ? (Mega Barfer)"
But I see you recently posted a thread to it yourself:
FR: "What Makes People Vote Republican (Good Article From A Lib Alert)"
What amazing gyrations folks must go through to try to explain away faith in God, Judeo-Christian ethics, family, patriarchy, matriarchy, patriotism, honor of our founding fathers, conservative principles, and etcetera...
You are right though, it was a good article, and from the perspective of your reply to me here, ironic proof that the "it" they don't get, is WHY they don't get it... :D
More accurately stated...
...teen pregnancy is life-altering. And God is full of compassion for His people.
I'm pretty certain that -- as a man of faith -- Tony Perkins really does understand that. There's no need to be chiding him, though his phraseology could have been more precise.
Sex when at least one of the persons is married, and the participants are not married to each other, is called adultery.
Sex when neither participant is married is called fornication.
And, yes, neither act is appropriate pursuant to Christianity.
"It's amazing that a newlywed couple can accomplish, in seven months, what any other married woman must labor at for nine..."
But, we are speaking of democrats, here. They are not as intelligent as they believe themselves to be.
uh...Sex doesn’t seem to bother conservatives. I witness her on FR.
One thing conservatives are is realistic. We do not advocate teen sex. We also do not promote it, or tell our kids a condom will do.
Conservatives are the most down to earth people out there.
Do not let sex get in the way of a conservative life, it has nothing to do with it, like the leftist make it to be.
I know some of my Jewish friends that might contradict that assertion. :-)
of course, their process involved negotiations by the entire family on both sides, preperation of the "place" for the bride by the groom, inspections of which were done by the bride's dad; all of which took place after a 3-12 month betrothement, and then made official with a ceremony.
OTOH, you can't beat a term like "arsenokoites" for graphic precision.
Sarah Palin shouldn’t have to apologize for her daughter any more than Ronald Reagan Sr. should apologize for Junior. I’ll bet Bristol Palin will represent herself better than Junior Reagan represented Senior. But I’ll wager Senior was still proud of his idiot kid despite his liberalism.
