Large and dangerous Hurricane Ike approaching the Upper Texas coast. Mandatory evacuations began in earnest Thursday as an estimated one million coastal residents headed inland. There were widespread reports of gas stations running out of fuel.
The National Weather Service posted dire storm surge predictions of 20-25 ft storm surge along the coast and bay heads. Hurricane warnings covered a 400 mile swath of the Gulf of Mexico.
Wholesale gasoline prices spiked 30 percent Thursday, or nearly $1 a gallon, out of fear of what Ike might do.

No Dude... Red Top has been upfront ALL DAY about where she is..
You, are late to the “party”....
Prayers for your Dad Meek. I’m not replying to pings as I’m two days backed up, lol.
My Brother, in the Nassau Bay area, issued a report that a 20 ft surge is expected there and ALL homes in that area will be flooded! They are shutting down the city offices. His home is right across the street from the bay by Koema [sp?]
CNN reserved 18 rooms in a local motel here in Victoria and Port Lavaca is under mandatory evacuation. On the Houston channel 11 they said homes have already collapsed just from the water surge. I assume those are in the Galveston area.
I have not been reading on the thread so this may all have been reported already.
I am boarded up and ready for what ever I get here. Prayers for all and thanks for all good wishes.
It’s always suspect when a newbie shows up in the middle of some big event and makes big claims........ I’m about 50 miles inland and will openly admit I’m afraid of this storm. We won’t have to worry about coastal flooding, but if the predicted winds hit us we are going to be in for a rough night.
that is pretty good agreement for the models, I think
I’m really going to miss “Miss Kitty’s Purple Cow” at Surfside.. Greatest GREASY BURGERS in the world..
Maybe someone should make a graphic of where the Freepers are who are in the area of Ike.
There's television on The Other Side?
Are the commercials as bad as they are here?
Coastal storm surge flooding of up to 20 feet with a few spots to
near 25 feet above normal tides along with large and dangerous
battering waves can be expected near and to the east of where
the center of Ike makes landfall.
Winds 105 mph, 955 mb.
When I copied that gif, it was totally different. They changed it before I posted it. STG
Everything is a little weird right now.
Interesting. I went and filled up our van today and gas at our usually high local station was DOWN 5 cents from yesterday, in NYS.
I called mr. mm and told him to fill up on the way home.

Nope SW Tookies at Nasa Road 1 :)
For the last three days at least the NHC forecasters have all stated Ike would strengthen during the last 12-24 hours of approaching the coast. Somewhere I saw it suggested there is some historical precedent for that in hurricanes approaching TX. I’ve seen no good reason other than that for their intensity call, though.
If Ike got organized, they’ll certainly be right.
As far as the surge goes, though, it no longer matters.
Also a good spot! :-) Probably, also GONE!
I am about 75 miles north of Galveston on I-45 and I am getting a tad nervous myself, especially since they began talking about the storm heading north along I-45.
