Washington is the latest state to show a strong western surge for John McCain since he added Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Washington finds Barack Obama still ahead, but barely. Its Obama 49%, McCain 47%. A month ago, Obama was up by twelve percentage points. Recent polls have shown McCain gains in Montana, New Mexico and North Dakota.
Among Democrats, Obama now attracts 83% of the vote, down six points from last month. However, the big change comes among unaffiliated voters who now favor McCain by a 48% to 43% margin. In August, before the two parties held their conventions, Obama led by twelve among voters not affiliated with either major political party (see demographic crosstabs).
If the GOP internals are confirming this. They need to send Palin through that state and make a play.
Putting another blue state into play pulls money and time away from Obama. That’s the advantage of playing offense at this stage of the game.
OMG...THAT is scary. Please tell me they CAN’T do that!
I am really afraid if they did that,it would be THEIR Palin moment.I think we’d be in trouble.Thoughts....?
He is? I thought he had an enormous campaign treasury; that's why he refused the federal funds because he'd be constrained from utilizing it! Besides, George Soros isn't anywhere near broke!
It would be stupid for Clinton to accept it, and it would be a clear sign of desperation no matter how they try to dress it up.
I dont see a change to Clinton happening. If Obama is going to lose, you will see people start running from him like they started running from Hillary. That’s what the Dems do...they kill their wounded.
Wearing this T-Shirt at the Western Washington Fair (Puyallup Fair) next week.

This fair, one of the largest State Fairs in the Nation has a good mixture of conservatives and liberals. Should be fun.
My call goes out to ALL Washington Freepers - get involved, do everything you can to tip the scale. If you don’t like phone calling or ringing door bells then at least get a bumper sticker on your car, and contact those in your e-mail address book.
Well he’s not broke. But when you blow half your piggy bank on your convention, that tends to erase your advantage. Plus they spent a lot of money in stupid places like in Mississippi and Georgia.
Just think of how many millions they paid just to rent that stadium and then design the set...That money doesnt grow on trees.
That sent a bad message, I think. It shows Obama cant manage his money.
Well, nobody ever accused them of having brains, but lots of hubris. You’re right,of course. They not only kill their wounded, they’ll eat their own,in a minute, for that power.
I was part of this poll!
Do they post the raw poll results? Because I’m curious to see the numbers. They asked also about Rossi/Gregoir.
The problem with this poll is the same polling co. has Obama up by 2 in a very important state Colorado.
I’m sure western Wash is heavily GOP.
Dems have won Wash b/c of Seattle/Tacoma.
This is excellent, but not completely unexpected. Sarah Palin is going to have a regional effect in the Pacific Northwest.
If McCain is within 2 in Washington, he is probably even or up by a couple in Oregon.
I would like to see a poll of California now. I suspect McCain is within 5-10 there now.
In PA, Obama ads assaulted the airwaves nonstop during the primary and still he lost decisively to Hillary. Some polls showed him within striking distance of her, but when the votes were cast, it was pretty much a rout.
Will that be the case in PA with O vs. Mc? I’m thinking it might.
RUSH: The very people that should give this big, massive victory voted against him in the late primaries and voted for Hillary, the old-fashioned Democrat so-called constituent, the white blue-collar workers, the bitter clingers, as Obama called them. What's happened to make them more supportive of Obama? Nothing. What's happened to make 'em less supportive? A lot.
He nailed it. Obama is not winning these voters, and he absolutely needs to in order to win. Barring some game-changing event, I fully expect Obama to lose Pennsylvania.
Re: the big change comes among unaffiliated voters who now favor McCain by a 48% to 43% margin
THIS is going to be key.
Spend, spend, spend Barry!
Obama will lose PA in my opinion. He hasn’t won the ethnic, Union blue-collar vote in heavily Democratic areas like Philly/Pittsburgh/Scranton/Erie. McCain looks like he may well pick up some of those Dems while solidifying his base in the heavily Republican rural areas. Clemenza informs me that some the moderately Republican suburbs of Philly will likely go McCain.
With Obama’s base not very broad to begin with and still eroding, and McCain having an energized base and picking up some independents and Democrats, I don’t realistically see Obama winning PA.
So this means Howard Dean is officially done. The 50 state thing was his pipedream, his legacy.
Re: Phila. suburbs. I believe that Mc will pick up the Arlen Specter voters.
