Thank you, MY! I hope Ike is all hype and little wind! LOL!
I hadnt been following it that closely as I am far inland.
They say its big but I dont know that its that powerful.
Most homes down there are built to take it.
Could it be worse than Rita?
Hope they all are OK. They got 24 hrs to leave.
When the warrior returns from the battle afar,
To the home and the country he has nobly defended,
Oh! Warm be the welcome to gladden his ear,
And loud be the joys that his perils are ended!
In the full tide of song, let his fame roll along.
To the feast-flowing board let us gratefully throng.
Where mixt with the olive the laurel shall wave,
And form a bright wreath for the brow of the brave.
The next verse celebrates the "band of brothers" that braved the desert and ocean to secure the rights and "fair fame" of America. The third verse continues the theme, more explicitly focused on the Tripolitan war:
In conflict resistless each toil they endured,
Till their foes shrunk dismay'd from the war's desolation:
And pale beam'd the crescent, its splendor obscur'd
By the light of the star-spangled flag of our nation.
Where each flaming star gleam'd a meteor of war,
And the turban'd heads bowed to the terrible glare.
Then mixt with the olive the laurel shall wave,
And form a bright wreath, for the brow of the brave.
Nine years later, Key would stand aboard a British warship as it bombarded Fort McHenry in Baltimore. He would rewrite this song about Tripoli, with its imagery of bombs and warfare, and the arresting image of the "star-spangled" flag, which here obscures the Muslim crescent. Key's song of Tripoli lives on in the American national anthem.
More on these events were originally found here, but no longer appear to be online there. However they live on in its old FreeRepublic posting! The full lyrics of the prequel are here.
His house is on Galveston Bay. Right now he is about 60 miles inland at his son’s house. I am pretty sure he’ll be ok there!
It’ huge and it’s growing in strength and it’s slow...which means that it will linger wherever it hits. They say it will be a Cat. 3...but hope not!
Not worse than Rita, but hitting at a different angle and a different location.
Prayers for your brother and all the other coastal folks. I’ve been learning the geography of the coast of the southern states the last few weeks.
Hope your family members are safe, too!
The beach house could get a beating from storm surge, but thats why they put ‘em on stilts.
Best wishes for all involved.
Is your recertification coming at the end of the month? Glad you are feeling better about it. You sure have studied for it.
His is not a beach house...it’s a house on a foundation. Seabrook is right on Galveston Bay.
I need to get sleep, MY! See ya tomorrow for tunes!
Sweet dreams! Take care of you!
Gnight Luv. Hugs all around

Chance barked his fool head off at a possum that was try’n ta sneak into the yard the other night.

Can’t find any moose stories in the local fish wrapper.
This AM I had a run in with polecat, a skunk LoL
I had the sense to give it a wide berth.
Doofy critters act just like cats
Possums can get real snarly
I hear they make good pets after ya get the scent glands removed.
Skonks? Yeah, they are just curious dufus’s
