Mitchell Laughs Off the Lipstick: 'He's Not Talking About Palin'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 09/10/2008 4:55:09 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

An Obama campaign spokeswoman opened today's Morning Joe with an aggressive defense of his lipstick line, arguing that Obama was being criticized "for saying something that John McCain has said before, that Barack Obama frequently says about 'you can dress something up.' He was talking about the Republican change argument."

A bit later, bolstering her argument, the spokeswoman described the conference call the McCain campaign arranged to respond to Obama's line. She pointed out that all the reporters asking questions on the call were women, and that all of them asked McCain representative Jane Swift "are you serious?" in alleging that Obama was alluding to Palin.

Concluded the Obama spokeswoman: "If you read the quotation in context, he's not talking about Sarah Palin." Oh, wait. That wasn't an Obama spokeswoman. It was Andrea Mitchell, sitting in for Mika Brzezinski.

Pat Buchanan made the comment that it’s not what he said but what people heard. Clearly the folks at the campaign stop heard SARAH PALIN IS A PIG

Exactly. This is the most succinct "sound bite" way for people to understand this.

Obviously the crowd leapt up with great delight & applause over this comment. The Obama camp and their lackey press would have us believe that the crowd simply suddenly got all excited over an old saying applied to his opponents about why their "change" isn't "change?"

When you are a speaker, and you say something, even if we give the benefit of the doubt that something that was said wasn't intended in a certain manner, if you know the audience will interpret what you say as a slam, and you say it, then the intention becomes quite clear.

As Hugh Hewitt said last night, in the past two weeks, Palin "owns" "lipstick" as a brand. She has it "copyrighted." Even before Obama said this, people were showing up at her rallies with signs saying, "Read my lipstick."

MSNBC is in a talking point meltdown fearing this is Obama’s Dukakis moment.

I submit this is 1980 jimmy “Obama” Carter.

Note to Andrea. Avoid wearing “blue dresses” until after the election.

'He's Not Talking About Palin'

Yeah...sure...right. You can take the 'boy' out of the 'hood', but you can't take the 'hood' out of the 'boy'. Class shows.

Let's give Obama as much benefit-of-the-doubt as was received by George Allen. Ooh, that's gonna leave a mark.

It's not as much the line that was spoken - although that cannot be ignored - it is the disconnect between the brain and the mouth that is troubling. At least Allen's utterance was spontaneous. Obama's was scripted. And that's where we come back to what was said. His audience obviously caught the overtone. Yeah, Lord knows there has been much hue and cry from the left on supposed racist overtones. But here we have pretty clear evidence of a sexist overtone. And it was calculated. Poor judgment, Barry, very poor judgment.

Sent Andrea a little love note.

Asked her how long she would last if she said something even mildly critical of Obama.

Then after being called every derogatory word for a female by all the open-minded, tolerant, accepting members of the press and the Democrat Party if she could say that they were not speaking about her.

MSNBC rushes to defend their Messiah. But it’s too late, everybody has already seen the video. Obama called Sarah a pig. Obamadon, the moron of Ramadan

Three different times, you say? This is the DNC's leader.

Actually, I have been corrected. It looks like all three are the same. Obama only flipped of Hillary once, at least that I can find.

He's still a putz. He's just not a repeat putz.

Now Obama and his defenders are just saying that us dumb hicks are way too stupid to understand the finely crafted nuances of Obama.

You do have to admit Andrea Mitchell knows something about putting lipstick on a pig. When are they sending this old nag out to pasture.

I bet after the election she will have a much diminished presence, something like features for the weekend edition of THE TODAY SHOW....

what Obama did was classless and he did the same to clinton

never in the history of this country has anyone run for office and been so classless

The man is racist, elitist, sexist and classless, every time he starts to lose he acts like a ghetto punk

No way can anyone deny that Obama is nonthinking about Palin when he says this
O I would love to see Palins husband be there when Obama ever does this childish stuff again

“I have loved watching Mitchell since Palin’s speech last week. Since then she has the look of someone who was just told they have three month to live”

While I do not believe that Obama was metaphorically calling Gov Palin a pig,Obama and Michele, along with their surrogates, have been making negative inferences to Palin about everything from her intelligence, small town background, college education, to her religion. So, it gives me great glee to see them (Obama, Michelle, Lib's) squirm over this gaff...

I’m sure she’d think similarly if Palin were to make comments about calling a spade a spade.

Obombus has to prove he can lead this country on a moment’s notice. So far, he hasn’t.

Oh, definitely. I do think he did that intentionally. Look at the way he sells it by hunching his shoulders just before. Later in that speech, he hunches the shoulders again and does the obviously rehearsed Jay-Z “brush off” gesture.

The shoulder hunch is the tip off that both moves were rehearsed.
