Why I'm reversing course on John McCain

Governor Sarah Palin! Or, actually, what she signifies.

We've often stated on FR that if the Republicans would only run true conservatives then we'd win more elections. We'd keep the White House, build conservative majorities in congress, replace liberal activist judges with original intent constitutionalists, and eventually overturn Roe v Wade and begin rolling back some of the damage inflicted upon our beloved republic by the socialists and liberals.

John McCain's bold choice of the unabashed pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-liberty, small government, strong defense, fiscal conservative, Sarah Palin, signifies a return to conservatism within the Republican Party.

And the fact that Republicans and conservatives of every stripe, including the Christian right are flocking to her side and that the conservative grassroots has been re-energized literally overnight is proof that when offered the choice of truly conservative candidates, conservatives and Republicans will react accordingly.

Even though I've stated in the past that I would not vote for McCain, I will be supporting this ticket. Governor Palin is a God-fearing, kick butt conservative and I'd much rather have her advising and standing in the wings for the presidency than Joe Biden. I'll definitely pull the lever for her. And I'll do all I possibly can to keep the America-hating Marxist Barack Hussein Obama out of the White House.

Do it for Life. Do it for Liberty. Do it for our troops. Do it for America!

There was such a lack of conservative support prior to the convention that it must have been pretty obvious to McCain that he wasn't going to pick up enough moderate support to make up for the drought of conservatives.

I wish that was true. Every poll showed Obama was having trouble getting support of the rat base. BEFORE Palin was announced, polls showed McCain with support of 87% of Republicans and Osama with 74% of rats.

If things had been looking good for McCain earlier on, I don't think he would have been as likely to have chosen Gov. Palin.

In 2006 rats took the seats of JD Hayworth, John Hostettler, Dennis Hastert, Tom Delay, and Rick Santorum. They were all available to run for McCain's VP, but not one of them made the short list. The dwindling supply of real conservatives left in DC makes it hard to find a pro-life, pro-taxcut, pro-gun, pro-God "maverick" like McCain.

There are many reason to find Palin an attractive VP. She has lots of experience in front of a camera. She's a Governor making her the only person on the ticket with executive experience. In fact, Palin is the most popular GOP Gov in the US. AK was a swing state. Most importantly Palin's sex makes her popular with women, just as Osama's race makes him popular with 90% of blacks. Her biggest draw is women, not issues.

The fact that she agrees with McCain on abortion, 2nd amendment, taxes, earmarks, and the Iraq impresses us, but it does not bring moderate or independent voters. Issues don't motivate these voters. That is why they are not conservatives or liberals. Most conservatives were already going to hold their noses and vote against Osama. Palin brings far more soccer moms and Miss Teen South Carolina contestants to the table than conservatives. Palin's issues scare the hell out of liberal Hitlery voters who might have felt comfortable with McCain and sending a message to the DNC by sitting out the election.

McCain got to the convention without conservative votes and without our money. Had he won with a moderate VP like Ridge or Lieberman it would have exposed the impotence of conservatism to capture the support of American voters. What McCain did was save the conservatives bloated sense of power even though we have stood in his way and failed. It is an extremely smart move on McCain's part. It will likely result in a land slide victory for McCain.

McCain and Palin will do just fine, as long as Palin, who is soooo over analyzed, changes her stump speeches a “tad” from her convention speech as she traverses the country. Don't want her to look like a one-trick pony on the nightly news.

"Had he won with a moderate VP like...Lieberman?" You really think Lieberman is a moderate? I guess he could be termed a moderate Democrat.

Conservatives stood in McCain's way and failed? Maybe you weren't around for the McAmnesty battles where us conservatives stood in McCain's way and succeeded.

McCain picked Palin because he knew he would lose badly without conservative support. Many conservatives, "bloated sense of power" and all, who would have stood in McCain's way in the general election, will now support him as part of the McCain/Palin ticket.

I will support the McCin/Palin ticket even though it means, reluctantly, supporting McCain. To bring a conservative, Palin, into the white house is important enough to support the ticket. I know, however, that I will have to spend an inordinate amount of time and money to "stand in the way" of McCain's psychotic support of illegal invaders and other non-conservative positions. I wish McCain would realize that "Country first" also means U.S. citizens first. If he did he would reverse himself on his foolish amnesty policy.

I am, regrettably, looking forward to four years of fighting a Republican presidents liberal policies. Maybe Sarah will help McCain see the light!

I agree, Jim.

I saw something to like in McCain when he chose Sarah Palin- maybe I detected a reach-out to conservatives, or a smart, shrewd strategic move, or street smarts, or perhaps just a glimmer of conservatism in McCain himself, but I, too, will be supporting the ticket in November.

There is no other way. It's up to us to rescue this country this election, and I for one will step up to the job.

Barack Obama is a puppet of monied Marxists, nothing more. We will not have a nation called America four years after he is elected. It is up to us, and I would hope that we would all do the right thing and put the only real Americans running for the presidency in 2008 in the White House.

Oh I remember it well. I remember Republicans passing ID reform and a border fence. I also remember Minute Men and National Guard at the Mexican border. Then I remember the rats controlling the Congress.

But I wasn't saying conservatives never stopped McCain. I was expanding on my previous post that conservatives had the opportunity to nominate a law and order conservative in Rudy, a economic conservative in Mitt, or a social conservative in Mike. They could have supported the whole package with Thompson or Hunter or Tancredo. Rush and Hannity supported everyone but McCain, and he was dead last on my list too. Every conservative who wouldn't vote against Osama, but will now vote for Palin, will be offset by an energized liberal. Palin is a powerful symbol That threatens feminist dogma. A pro-life evangelical mother they will want to destroy.

Republicans comprise about 30-35% of the vote. 35% of the voters can not win more than 50% of the vote. The rats get 30-35% of the vote. The fringe of the parties get a percent or 2 and the squishy middle gets the rest. The middle doesn't vote ideology. They vote on looks, and feelings like trust, and likability. They vote based on what they think the candidate will do for them, or fear of what the candidate might do to them. These are the voters who will win a landslide for McCain. Palin is pulling the female vote on nothing more than anatomy. That is not to say she has no other qualities to offer. I think she is a marvelous choice for multiple reasons as I have already stated. Those reasons don't matter to the squishy middle. They are voting for "the first woman Vice President." Sarah {sigh}

Those voters were going to vote for Obama because he was cool, and those votes count as 2 votes. -1 for Obama and 1 for Palin. There are very few conservatives that were in danger of voting for Obama before Palin was added. Palin's ideology does not significantly add votes for McCain.
