Frisco man says HOA won't let him park pickup on driveway 01:32 PM CDT on Monday, August 18, 2008
By STEVE STOLER / WFAA-TV (Channel 8) sstoler@wfaa.com If there's one thing Texans are serious about, it's pickups.
But a Frisco man says his truck is being targeted simply because his homeowners association doesn't think it's classy enough.
Jim Greenwood said he never dreamed his HOA would have a problem with his new Ford F-150 pickup. Then he received the first of three notices threatening him with fines.
"Mr. Greenwood, you're violating a subdivision rule that prohibits pickup trucks in your driveway," the notice reads.
Stonebriar HOA rules allow several luxury trucks on driveways, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Avalanche, Honda Ridgeline and Lincoln Mark LT.
But most Ford, Dodge or Chevy pickups are restricted.

Yes, the HOA rules are stupid, but the biggest idiot is the guy who moved into a neighborhood with an HOA and did not know its rules.
I don’t know what kind of area he lives in, but many upscale neighborhood HOAs have these kinds of restrictions. It’s his responsibility to know that when he buys the house, then truck.
I’m not a big HOA fan... most are ruled by do-gooders who want to tinker in everyone else’s lives. However, rules are rules.
Again, don't move into a place with a HOA if you don't want to follow the rules.
So much for the concept of a freerepublic!
You gotta read those CC&R’s before buying a house anymore. Especially if there’s an HOA staffed by fugitive Nazi war criminals...which is most all of them.
A VERY GOOD reason to avoid communities run by these people.
I would rather live next to Joe Bubba with his cars up on cinder blocks and a pile of beer cans next to his house - as long as he doesn't care about my giant American flag or MY pile of beer cans or MY car up on cinder blocks!!!!
Many homeowner associations make up “rules” as they go. If it is not in the deed restrictions, the HOA is probably acting beyond its legal authority.
My sister is in a HOA. They actually told her she would have to pull up all of her flowers, as they were the wrong color and she did not receive permission to plant. One short letter from an attorney threatening legal action was sufficient to stop that stupidity.
Some of us condo-owning idiots did read the CC&Rs, only to be outvoted by the majority. The owners now pay $200 per month over dues for the privilege of collectively donating to a charity owned by one of the condo owners. Don’t try to tell me it’s all about not reading before buying.
Nicer than the most expensive Honda Ridgeline I have ever seen.
I park my '98 Cummins Ram outside sometimes and my neighborhood in Southlake is much more upscale than ANY neighborhood in Frisco.
I would far rather live in a van down by the river than under an HOA.
If you are correct their attorney will tell them to snap out of it. Unfortunately if they enforce the rules equally, you'll still have to move your truck.
ALL HOAs are dumbasses, and so are those that set them up, so are the people who PERPETUATE THEM.
Get OUT of your neighbor’s business. Idiots.
Is his pick up a commerical vehicle? If so, most HOAs have this restriction.
Besides, he bought into the house without reading the CC&Rs! Stupid!
What’s a HOA?................
I suggest that you run for election to the board at the first possible moment. And get like minded folks to run. I know I have served on our board several times. What typically happens here is nobody shows up for the annual board meeting, can't even get a quorum. So those in charge are free to do whatever they want. I personally stopped several unnecessary dues increases.
Your other choice is to move to a place without HOA.
You may want to check your state laws on HOAs. In California, that would be illegal.
Sounds like the HOA rules allow large vehicles in the driveway and smaller pickup trucks don’t qualify. It’s probably not a ‘’class’’ type of rule. It’s still asinine but that’s what you get when you volunteer for a whole other layer of government. I learned the hard way it’s not a good idea to live somewhere my neighbors have a say on what color I can paint my house or where I can park my cars on my own property.
The CC&Rs are often vague. It is often the HOA ‘guidelines’ that provide the teeth.
Where I’m at, the CC&Rs have nothing objectionable. Now the HOA has owners trying to push thru rules that would restrict what you can plant or how many horses you can own. I had a complaint for putting in rip-rap to control erosion (when the County investigated, the inspector said “Great job! I wish more would do this...”)
Current status - disbanding the HOA is up for a vote!
