ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Don’t get hysterical, get a grip on yourself. This is a discussion site. Opinions are expressed here. And in my opinion a 17 year old with limited education and no husband hardly makes the best mother. Her having a child under these conditions tells me she is irresponsible.

Oh, come on and pull out the BIG insults.

Let’s see. You could call me a slut, since I flirt with FReepers and post not-entirely-clad pictures of myself on my profile page.

Or you could even go so far as some have, to accuse me of being a man who’s posted pictures of some unsuspecting broad on said page.

Trollish and/or crazy ... that seriously can’t be the best you can do for a woman who’s vociferously upholding the conservative values that this Website was created to spread.

C’mon. Do better than that, Jane. I feel you have it in you.

What was Stanley Ann’s career? I didn’t know that she had one.

He says he always tells his dad, "I'm the best damn mistake you ever made!"

My mom says she knows four birth control methods that don't work. (She gave birth to three boys and one girl)

And the most ironic method that failed was a vasectomy(long story)

I simply wanted to see how she handled it.

I was merely pointing out that if you read her statement, you have seen how she handled it.

So far, so good.

She doesn't have to do any more. The left (and apparantly some here) will try to goad her into responding more.

My problem? Don't have one.

Congratulations Todd & Sarah, kids sometimes stop listening to mom & dad for a while. Deep values run through generations. Your kids will be fine. Fight on!

You mean, they can figure it out without the gubmint? /s ;)

Correct.. it does NOT "take a village"!

> I wonder if the smart and graceful thing to do is “decline” to accept the nomination. After all, her son is going to Iraq. She has a newborn baby. Her daughter is pregnant and unwed. This would allow a new Veep candidate to step to the plate, immediately.

See here is the thing. I really like Sarah and think she has the right stuff, but not right now. She’s not seasoned enough, there is WAY too much going on in her private life. And if she really cares about her family as I know she would like to be, the time for her is just NOT now.

I know we want to pull in the PUMAs. And Sarah has great conservative bona-fides. But let’s be compassionate as well as realistic. Sarah Palin is simply going to be too distracted with her own life to take on potentially helming the most powerful nation in the world... a very real possibility given McCain’s age and health problems.

Sorry, that is how I see it. Palin for VP in ‘16, not ‘08.

Actually, this is not a good thing. It is a statement that some of those familly values that Sarah is advancing could not even be passed along to her own kid. I still like Palin, but, if true, this is not good.

I respectfully disagree. There are millions of families that are touched by a teen pregnancy. Bristol and all the other mothers show tremendous courage by having their babies. This is reality and will be a shining example of how a challenging situation can be handled.

I wonder how many of these “holier than thou” types wouldn’t have voted for Reagan because he was * gasp * divorced?

And yet, at some level, I totally understand those who genuinely are disappointed with this news.

I am as pro-life as they come and I rejoice this child will be given life...

..but proclaimed Christians are indeed held to higher expectations....they just are.

Yes, the world glosses over or even approves of the out-of-wedlock celebrities ....you know, the ones who help sell millions of People, Us and assorted other magazines.

But I believe Governor Palin is a Christian and she will be held to a higher standard, as will her family.

Having said this, Christians who try to do what is right and righteous ....will be tempted and pursued by the enemy of Christianity.

It IS tough!...It's a hard race!

We are on the road to glorification, but we haven't reached our destination yet......and the roads in this world have pitfalls.

Pray for this family!!

He stopped there.

"I was never a big fan of McCain, but over the last month he has been gaining a lot with me."

Ditto! I was commenting to that person who said Palin should have told McCain. There are quite a few here talking out of their butts.

“The Dems must be doubling over with laughter. “

Really. I don’t blame them. I am not an evangelical but it seems like the concept is as long as you don’t have an abortion you can do what you want because we have this thing “forgiveness.” Odd.

Seems to me the first lesson needs to be do the right thing in the first place and screwing around at 17 aint it where I come from.

Your statement is inaccurate. Bristol Palin has not yet had the baby. They state that Bristol will be getting married to the father.

If you have information that contrary to what Todd and Sarah Palin indicated, then please share this.

I grew up in a very Conservative household. Granted my father was a drunk, if not for my mom and grandparents i don’t know where i would be today.

I have made mistakes that i regret over the years. Doe’s that make me less of a Conservative? No way.

God Bless the Palin daugher and her parents for standing up and do what’s right. The Palin daughter is acting like a adult and is gonna care for and support that baby. This in no way affect my vote.

At least her son is not a left wing ballet dancer

yet

Her son Track, a US Army infantryman, is about to be deployed with his Stryker unit to Iraq.

Stranger things have happened, but in this case, it seems highly unlikely.
