It was to be expected that the left wing smear machine would go into overdrive upon the announcement of Governor Palin as John McCain's veep nomination. What was not expected was how unbelievably low they would be willing to go.
Several lefty outlets including Daily Kos and Democratic Underground that are running with the smear saying that Governor Palin's youngest son

Anyone perpetrating this smear needs to be pounded down hard. We can’t do anything about DU or Kos but this is now threatening to spread to the mainstream. If it doesn’t show up on the six o’clock news it will at least be used as a whispering campaign.
Use the Obama campaign’s own intimidation tactics to fight this. Spread the word here, call editors, write letters, whenever you see it being repeated react quickly and angrily. point out that spreading this garbage damages the credibility of their publication.
Anyone who would use a four month old baby boy with Downs syndrome as a political weapon deserves nothing less than our full attention.
So far I’ve only seen this repeated in two places other than the kook blogs:
— Knoxville News Sentinel: http://blogs.knoxnews.com/knx/granju/2008/08/that-sarah-palin-rumor.html
The comments thread for the blog that has the claim seems to have been taken over by a conversation of Obama’s past associations. Good.
I used the “Contacts” page to send a polite complaining e-mail to the President and Editor of the News Sentinel.
— Alan Colmes had a post yesterday on his blog claiming that Trig’s Downs syndrome was caused by Governor Palin’s failure to get proper prenatal care. This posing (www.alan.com/2008/08/30/did-palin-take-proper-pre-natal-care/) has been pulled and you now get a big blue “404 - Not Found” message. I’d call this a victory.
It might be appropriate for someone to call Sean Hannity on Monday or Tuesday and inquire about Mr. Colmes’ posting.
**Daily Kos and Democratic Underground **
And Alan Colmes
We should encourage the libs to make a big deal of this.
Give ‘em all the the rope that they’ll take.
It’s a stupid and meaningless “scandal” even if were true. I think too many of them have been watching “Desperate Housewives”.
Can you say “Desperate Liberals”?
That is terrific and so true!

Dying to see George WIll ready to knock Sam's teeth out.
Actually, young mothers sometimes have Down Syndrome babies — more Downs babies are born to women under 30 or 35 than over 40 because younger women have more babies — and some mothers (in the old days) would claim their teenage daughters’ babies as their own. However, what are the chances a GOVERNOR would try this subterfuge? And is it appropriate for others to imply Palin did that? Some of the Dems are just low-lifes.
Gov. Palin needs to put a stop to this one right now.

No.. Remain quiet and let the loonies keep ranting and raving.
There’s no reason for anyone in the McCain camp to respond to this drivel.
My daughter is over 40 and will be giving birth to a normal infant.
Then I have a daughter in law who birthed a Downs Syndrome baby in her early thirties.
PS. I love my grnadson; he is a darling and ready to start pre-school.
The doctor’s announcement in December, when Palin was four months pregnant, presented her with a possible life- and career-changing development http://www.albertmohler.com/blog_read.php?id=1144
The left is trying to make it sound like the baby got Down’s while she was in flight. They are fools and idiots!
The odds are greater with an older mother than with a younger one, according to my Maternal/Infant textbook.
First, I have known several women who were slim, fitness junkies, who exercised a lot through their pregnancies. They were several months along without showing much weight gain, except that they suddenly looked like they were carrying a basketball under their blouse. I find it entirely plausible that Palin's pregnancy was not noticeable until late, especially living in Alaska with its heavy jackets and sweaters. There are also a couple of photos from the Texas speech, where Palin does look like she's in advanced pregnancy.
Second, a couple of other gals I've known had some kind of early contraction syndrome; it lasted for weeks for both of them. It is reasonable that Palin, an experienced mom, knew she could make it through the plane flight home (Texas to Alaska) without going into labor. A first time mom might have freaked out, but not a five time mom.
Third, the Kos-Moore whackos insist that the teenager was "showing" in the 2007 family photo. However, the 2006 family photo show the teenager to be slightly overweight. She is not obese in either photo, but surrounded by her athletic family, she looks slightly larger proportioned--thus, no evidence of the kid being pregnant in 2007. Further, I find it impossible to believe that a Republican governor's kid could hide a pregnancy and birth; the leftist MSM would be all over the story.
Hypothetically speaking, even if it were true, it would be a truly loving and compassionate act to protect the daughter and give life to the baby. The left would just as soon murder the baby.
If anything good comes out of this trashy non-story, it will serve to highlight exactly what the left believes in and advocates: killing babies.
"Okay, you're right on target. Now pull that trigger, slow & easy..."
Precisely, there would be no reason to make it up. She was not on any list at the time, she would have just kept it a secret.
Kos? Metrosexual? Sorry, but that kid ain’t just playing for the Yankees, he’s playin’ short and batting clean up..
It’s interesting that the article you linked to, which was published in May, suggests Palin as a possible running mate for McCain even then. So the notion that she was a last minute pick is absurd.
Oh, many of us know that there is no limit to the depravity of those lowlifes and certainly no limit to how low they will sink.
The only problem we have is that the normal human mind cannot imagine such depravity or such depths.
Do you remember thr fun misquote of the Eastwood saying by the boxer John “the Beast” Mugabe?
He’d say “Make me a day!”
The people I have spoken to about this today wanted to vomit at how low these people have sunk to.
Anyone perpetrating this smear needs to be pounded down hard.

Wrong. Let them spread it wide and far.
