Liberals Accusing McCain of Stealing Cross Story From Solzhenitsyn
8/17/08 | Pinkbell

This appears to be a large topic of discussion over at Democratic Underground and Daily Kos. The diary at Daily Kos has over 800 posts, and three diaries have been spawned from it. They are discussing the Daily Kos diary at Democratic Underground as well. If you check out the link, you can read the diary with Solzhenitsyn's story. The stories are similar, but they aren't identical. The liberals are speculating that McCain either knowingly stole the story, or he is in the early stages of dementia and mistook Solzhenitsyn's experience as his own.

I give McCain the benefit of the doubt. It's certainly possible that both men had similar experiences. Afterall, Christianity transcends nations and people.

It's a tradition going back to the earliest days of Christianity that believers who were subject to persecution for their faith would signal their shared faith to each other. The sign of the cross or the fish were frequently used. Nothing questionable, nothing new here, no story...

This is all they have to cry about? A story of a Prison Guard and a Cross?

Sounds like desparation to me.

obambi would have drawn -
cresent and a hammer and .....

The Bisexual symbol

Indicating bisexuality with the gender symbols can get both fun and complicated. While male-male and female-female symbols are instantly recognizable, bisexual configurations can be confusing to some. Basically, it starts with whatever sex obambi is and puts a male symbol on one side and a female on the other- a combination of the straight and gay symbols. For obambi, you get the three colored circles that everyone uses to explain the properties of colored light in science class.

Or obambi might try making a symbol which includes all bisexuals regardless of sex. Obambi then would end up with two of each symbol interlocked together: lesbian+straight+gay.

Not exactly simple, but interesting. However, as is the case with most everything Obambi right now, these symbols aren’t very predominant. Bisexuals have very few symbols of pride, and commonly the most complicated ones.

Ellen was depressed one day.

Her “wife” drew a triangle in the sand.

She’s ok now.

This is a “laugh off” bit of nothing.

All that’s similar, is a story of someone with a bit of humanity, recognizing in another true desperation.

Answering that, with a small sign of decency.

Nothing more. Liberals are shaken, that’s the story.

You know what? Is it not possible for an individual to recount exactly the same situation or event at different times and use different words and a different emphasis? It’s neither a matter of memory nor a matter of fabrication.

Yes — Hussein cannot afford to be candid.

That is why he has to be “nuanced”.

GREAT LINE!

You forgot to put in your line about stuffing a sock (something?) into McCain’s mouth when he says ‘my friends.’

How come?

As I said earlier, the way he told the story the only two witnesses were McCain himself and one unnamed prison camp guard.

Actually, I was beginning to cringe at every ‘My friends’—I’m one of those who was scared that he’d fare badly against Obama, and Obama really didn’t do horribly in the first hour—it was only when compared to McCain’s responses to the same questions in the second hour that Obama’s translucence came into focus. Still, the repeated ‘my friends’ got old quick, but I’m a hard to please stickler for this sort of thing.

Exactly, the Dims can only make themselves look small raising questions about such story without some evidence that raises doubt.

That was a painful time in John’s life. There was probably a lot he didn’t talk about right when he got back.

I bet you the liberals are going to question the story of POWs communicating through cell walls via tapping noise. Isn’t that in some novel somewhere? Could be in the Gulag Archipelago.

That two prisoners would experience a similar Revelation that confirmed their faith during the most trying and difficult of circumstances is not surprising to me in the least. After all, Jesus knew suffering too.

Many people have similar conversion experiences as well, but that they are similar does not make them fraudulent.

What the liberals are up in arms about is the word ‘draw.’ For emphasis, a stick was used as the narrator says ‘the guard drew a cross on the sand...’

A stick was used for emphasis. And the emphasis is not on the implement, but on the idea.

I have heard this story before a little after the POWs returned in 1974. There were stories on Christian magazines, and I believe that’s where I read this account.

Yea lets doubt the big parts of the story too ...McCaine might not have been a fighter pilot ... or been shot down, or been in Viet Nam, or been in a prison ,or been tied up, or been in pain,

He must have got all of that from “Beowolf “

Add Huff Post and the Atlantic as well (Andrew Sullivan). You can bet that Keith Olbermann will be trashing McCain about this as well. Pretty stupid to go after a POW on this story since no one was there but the guard and McCain, but they’ll do it anyway.
