Elizabeth Edwards Speaks Out on Husband's Affair
ABCNEWS ^ | August 08, 2008 | Jennifer Parker

Posted on 08/08/2008 6:31:27 PM PDT by ricks_place

ABC News' Jennifer Parker reports: Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former Sen. John Edwards has reacted to the news of her husband's affair, posting a blog titled "Today" on the liberal Daily Kos website and asking for privacy for her family.

In the blog, Elizabeth Edwards says her husband told her about the affair in 2006 and they worked through it. "This was our private matter," she writes.

She heaps blame on the news media for prying into her family's life, writing, "the toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown."

She disputes the National Enquirer allegations that her husband fathered a child outside of their marriage.

The Elizabeth Edwards blog on Daily Kos reads: "Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some – most recently – caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.

"John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007.

I am in the mortgage industry and I hate to say it, but Edwards has more credibility than Countrywide. Washington Mutual was even worse than Countrywide.

I was reading about this on another thread, and I actually see things a bit differently than most when reading her statement...

Perhaps...

The Substitute Wife (1994) (TV)
A dying wife and mother makes plans for her family in this made-for-television drama. Lea Thompson stars as Amy Hightower, a frontier wife and mother of four who is ill and expected to die. In an unusual move to make sure her family is cared for, she finds a prostitute named Pearl (Farrah Fawcett) and teaches her how to be a wife and mother. The movie shows how Pearl slowly transforms, Amy's health fluctuates, and how husband Martin (Peter Weller) deals with the unusual circumstances. Filmed in Texas, this film is at times humorous and emotional, and not typical movie-of-the week fare. ~ Bernadette McCallion, All Movie Guide

No pity for her. Yeah, after what she has written beforehand about people who simply disagree with her, I take her at her word. I am heartless and cruel. Sorry Mrs. Edwards, wait, no apology. Yeah, you are sick. But so is your husband, and he lectured us, as did you, on how good you were and how bad we were.

You, Mrs. Edwards, owe the apology.

Yeah....self sacrifice for the larger cause.

You say that like it's a bad thing. If Jeri Ryan had behaved like a good Democrat wife with Rose Kennedy syndrome, you wouldn't have Barack Obama now.

“You are talking about the Clinton’s, “public marriage” also, wonder how many other politicians have that way of life. Hmmm”

Among certain folks in certain high places across cultures, this has been standard for centuries. Today, there are so many more ways for it to get into public knowledge. From what I’ve read, it was actually quite common in the past.

Posting on the hateful Daily Kos shows that Mrs. Edwards has learned nothing. She is just as caught up in evil as he is.

Not to be picky, but Ann Coulter DID NOT call Edwards a faggot at CPAC in 2007.

The sarcastic comment she made was twisted into something entirely different than intended. It was making fun of a situation where an actor was going into rehab for using the word faggot when describing a coworker. She was showing the stupidity of Political Correctness in our society.

BTW - I was sitting ten feet in front of Coulter when she said it, and I leaned over to another attendee and said “wait until they misquote her on this one”.
I understood what she meant, but people, especially liberals, have no grasp of sarcasm.

I personally do think Edwards is a faggot, as in effeminate. To make it simple, he is a pussy, a lying pussy to boot.

"What can you say about a man grabbing at a Presidential nomination, willing to accept it, despite the drama of a family, mistress and illegitimate child in tow? All the while keeping the voting public in the dark."

Reminds me of Bill Clinton? Maybe without the love child, but with several extra mistresses and dalliances thrown into the mix....... hell, Edwards is a piker, we only know of this one mistress so far.......

Yep, that’s exactly the kind of situation I envisioned - especially when she said that her diagnosis made things easier...

“John made a terrible mistake in 2006.”

Well, and maybe a little longer after that.

WHICH political candidate enjoys visiting New York because he has a girlfriend who lives downtown? The pol tells her he’ll marry her when his current wife is out of the picture.

yes. It is clear too that it (up to the time the Enquirer caught him red handed) is still going on. None of this 2006 stuff. Even if he was just visiting her because it is his kid (and not Andrew Young's), he stuck around long enough with her alone in a hotel room to blow that lie into oblivion. Elizabeth has sadly been replaced with her own life in the balance. What a horrible human being John Edwards is. Elizabeth is probably just worried about her children in case she doesn't beat her cancer.

I know a man who’s wife was dying and she made him take dancing lessons with her so that when she died, he’d be able to go out and meet other women in the hopes that he would find someone else eventually. He did find someone at a Christian singles dance about 3-4 years later and they married within an additional year. How sweet of his first wife to love him so much.

"Posting on the hateful Daily Kos shows that Mrs. Edwards has learned nothing. She is just as caught up in evil as he is."

It is incredibly ironic, is it not, that in 2007 she and Johnny-boy were blasting away at 'hateful' Ann Coulter, yet they embrace the 'community' of rabid demented haters known as DailyKosFreaks ..... well that's how they're known to ME..... :^)

“What I don’t understand is how these women - especially liberal-minded women - justify their behavior in response to the public outing of these affairs... You would think in order to set a good example to other women (especially young women) that they wouldn’t be flagrant enablers, but I think that’s lost on them...”

Amazing, isn’t it? Every one of these emancipated liberal soopeereeur womyn ends up helping their disgusting philandering husbands escape the consequences of their infidelity. And these “successful career” womyn think they are role models for young women.

Well, in a sense they do make good examples... of how pathetic the politically power-mad can become.

The very worst situation I can recall of political power-madness overcoming common decency was the Kopechne parents helping the Kennedy clan cover up the Swimmer’s murder of their own daughter! Disgusting degraded horrible people.

There was always something over the years that bothered me about the way he looked at Elizabeth when they were out in public. It has always bothered me...the way his face and eyes seem to be saying, “I can do so much better than her.”

I know, it’s creepy. But I never bought into his devotion to her, even as she was diagnosed. It seemed so trite — so trivial — so dispassionate. Aside from the politics, and the ambulance-chasing millions, and the vanity — his adoration of her always seemed phony to me....

I posted it from KOS because Elizabeth Edwards herself posted her message the America at KOS. I just now realized they pulled my post. I don’t know if that is a no-no regarding another blog site.

Mortgage business. Get this, our Attorney General in CT has filed suit against Countrywide. Isn’t Countrywide gone so who would Blumenthal think the money from any suit come from?
