It is President Bush that needs to act too. Recall congress for emergency session. Capitalize on how important it is to act now.!!!!!!!!!!

That would also highlight that they'd only be waiting for the Democrats to come back - the Republicans never left because they knew it was crucial to not ignore the topic.

The House Republicans get more amazing all the time. First, HR4437 a couple of years ago. Now, this. Wow. They stick to their conservative principles, no matter what. (If only the Senate Republicans had a pair between them...)

Ok, gotcha. Since your post was in response to the info on the Wed. adjournment vote, it seemed you were questioning Boehner's vote on that.

As far as Blunt and Boehner being awol today, it doesn't surprise me. Do they think the reps who did decide to show for this important issue had no commitments of their own to clear from their calendars? Evidently THEIRS are more important. As leader of the minority party in the House, Boehner's [supposed to be]the general. And he's left the troops with a pat on the back and regrets he can't do battle due to prior commitments. But carry on, soldiers. He'll save them some cake. Meh.

Anyone know if Scott Garrett from NJ is there?

I haven't heard about Scott. He's my congressman too and I plan to call his local office today at lunchtime.

The Obama Campaign and the MSM lemmings are trying hard to obfuscate his message today about Energy by putting out press releases that say Obama is for ‘tapping’ American Energy ‘Reserves’!

What he means is our STRATEGIC PETROLEUM RESERVES...but the MSM is putting up text crawlers saying just our ‘reserves’, knowing darn well that many people will think he is for drilling our domestic oil resources!

Very shady stuff going on.

Politico’s latest:

House Republicans resume gas protest

House Republicans reignited their energy protest on Monday morning, vowing to continue their talkathon until House Speaker Nancy Pelosi allows a vote on domestic oil drilling.

On Friday, Republicans refused to leave after Congress adjourned for the summer, holding court on the House floor until Friday evening, despite the lack of microphones or C-SPAN cameras.

“The cameras may not be on, the lights may not be on, but this is the people’s House and the people will still be heard on this day,” said Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) on Monday.

The lights were later turned on in the chamber.

While Friday’s session had all the passion of a revival meeting, with members jumping off airplanes and rushing back to the House floor to thunderous applause, it was a more subdued affair on Monday morning.

The House floor was sparsely populated with members and staff, with a steady stream of tourists flowing through the public viewing galleries.

A GOP leadership aide said 21 members had committed to attending on Monday, with more expected to follow throughout the week.

Republicans held to tradition to open their mock-session, with Rep. Gresham Barrett (R-S.C.) leading an opening prayer and Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) leading the pledge of allegiance.

On Sunday, Pelosi dismissed the protest as “the war dance of the handmaidens of the oil companies” in an interview on ABC, before reiterating her opposition to holding votes on increasing domestic drilling this fall.

As Congressional Republicans contacted the President’s office, I am sure that he’s responding. I think that John Boehner may intend to let this run for more time, which would be good if that were the case.

If the President acted too soon, the Congress would not get the benefit that they really deserve. The strategy is to mount pressure, which is what they are doing.

If I were Karl Rove* for the Reps in Congress I would recommend that they make it seem as though they bludgeoned the President to act, which he’d do reluctantly (although privately he would do whatever legal thing he could to help our Reps).

*the magnificent b@st@rd!

MSNBC says unheard of for Congress to come back in session at this time of 5 week vacation...

.....which they should know is a lie, because the Senate has refused to adjourn, and will be having “pro forma” sessions every few days in order to prevent any recess appointments from being made.

We (or the Pubs) don't HAVE to "look for a creative way around the rules". They're there. They have to be obeyed.

Don't make the rules the issue! Go on the offensive! Just pound away on WHAT THE DEMS ARE DOING.....use words like "suppression", "stifling the peoples' right to know", "stifling freedom of speech", "blackout on information", "turning out the lights during a crisis", "dictatorship", "Lucretia Borgia"...take the offensive and let the Dems go on the defensive sputtering about the rules, blah, blah.

Unlike us freepers, few know about all the rules and powers of the Speaker. Ignore references to the rules. Get right at the bread and potatoes.

What the lumpen American masses thrive on and understand are buzz words and phrases like those above. The Dems use them all the time. The Pubs have GOT to start using them, also, and go on the attack!

They're probably doing that right now on the floor and we....or nobody.....are allowed to hear them. The Spider Woman rules!

Tom Price (R-Ga.) leading the pledge of allegiance.

I love my Rep!

I'm just sad that I have to have a 3.0 GPA to intern for him. I would totally do it but, I only have a 2.8 or 2.9 (I forget) due to my schools way of grading. Oh well, maybe my summer classes will bump it.
