5. John F. Kennedy, Jr.- July 16, 1999 Jfk2 John F. Kennedy, Jr., son of the 35th president, died along with his wife Carolyn Bessette when their plane crashed into the Atlantic en route to Marthas Vineyard. Kennedy was piloting his Pipier Saratoga II HP on a dark and hazy night when the crash occurred. It is believed that Kennedy, who had not yet been qualified for instrument flight rules conditions, was likely disoriented by the conditions.

The thing that hacked me off about the JFKjr crash was the volume of resources expended by the Coast Guard for a reovery operation in the middle of the recreational boating season where SAR was not available for live rescues.
I was gonna say, Munson was one of the few Yankees of that era I liked. Of course, Reggie got all the attention. Remember Reggie Bars? Yuk!
You mean WWI.
What about that Yankees pitcher that went in a year or two ago?
Cory Lidle.
If helicopter accidents count, Stevie Ray Vaughan should be at the top of the list.
Tragic? It was a tragedy for his passengers but the entire accident was due to the nitwit flying in conditions he was not qualified to fly in. He died because of his own stupidity/arrogance. The tragedy is that others died due to his stupidity/arrogance.
He’s number 3.
Pays to read the article. One omission was Rocky Marciano, or Francis Gary Powers, the U2 pilot.
With respect to some of the names on the list, I would substitute Knute Rockne, Will Rogers, and Rocky Marciano.
The “tragic” part is his stupidity.
Not to mention Wiley Post and Will Rogers who went down together on their way up to Alaska.
Who the heck is Aaliyah? Not one in 500 people would know who she is. Replace her with country-singer Patsy Cline, who is still one of Country’s most famous singers.
Or a Patrol-Torpedo Boat.
She certainly was "Not Guilty."
WW2 is correct.......
Audie Murphy was born on June 20, 1924 near Kingston, Texas
Understandable. We lost some good folks that day.
To take nothing away from Clemente (since my wife is from the Burgh, I wouldn’t dream of that), he was 38 when he died. That was really old for a ball player back then.
Rocky Marciano, the only un-defeated heavyweight champ, died in an air crash in 1969. More of a loss than some trashy R&B singer in my opinion.
