Police Believe They Have Found Brooke's Body (VT's first Amber alert ends horribly)
WCAX ^ | 7/2/08

Police believe they have found the remains of Brooke Bennett, 12, of Braintree. Police say the remains were found on property on Crocker Road in Randolph near the home of Michael Jacques. Police found ground there that had been recently disturbed yesterday. Today, a search found the body there. Police say Brooke's body was recovered at 4:45 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed in Burlington to confirm it is Brooke and to try to find the cause of death. Police do call the death suspicious.

Brooke's family was notified of the discovery.

Brooke disappeared a week ago. She was last seen at a Randolph convenience store with her uncle, Michael Jacques. Police had previously called Jacques a person of interest in her disappearance and they had been searching his property in Randolph.

Late this afternoon, federal authorities also announced they will charge Jacques with kidnapping Brooke. The affidavit will not be released until the charges are filed in court Thursday morning.

Police plan to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Thursday to update the case.

“We should all send thank you letters to the 5 members of the SOCTUS that eliminated the death penalty as an option for these animals./disgusted sarc”

The Supreme Court did not rule against the death penalty for cases such as this. Murder still warrants a death penalty.

The ruling excludes rape (including of a minor) from capital punishment on the basis of cruel and unusual punishment.

The Bible does not make rape a capital offense (except if the victim is a married or betrothed female). It does, however, make kidnapping a capital offense.

I think that law makers should respond to the Supreme Court ruling by raising the severity of punishment for kidnapping.

That would not address crimes against children by incestuous step fathers or similar crimes, but it would deal with cases like this one in the event the victim survives.

Another helpful solution is for lawmakers to grant blanket immunity for victim’s close family members who retaliate against the perpetrators.

Water board it until it tells them everything they need to know about the other monsters. Then take it out in the deep woods and shoot it and leave it for the crows.

Her uncle, a convicted sex offender, apparently killed Brooke. One certainly has to wonder if VT's policy of endangering children by shielding the identity of sex offenders played a role here.

Yes, you can bet it did!

Coddling criminals is never a good idea. You can't 'fix' sex offenders but you can lock them up.

Saw a story earlier today that (former?) step-daddy was also recently arrested for sex-crimes involving another girl, in an unrelated case...same as this creep was.

I think the 'mother' knew what was going on! The whole family probably knew since the 'mother' and her sister both married sex offenders!!!

I didn't buy the crocodile tears the 'mother' was shedding yesterday when she said: 'I'm not angry at you, Brooke'. NO KIDDING, witch!

This may go to trail around hunting season.

Sound good to me.

Issue licenses; turn him loose, and let the hunt begin. Who ever tags & bags him gets a 50% share of the license fees.

Life in prison—ought to last about a week.

Get a nail gun. It’ll go faster for you and bring lots of pain to him.

This is my very favorite movie. I loved that so. Watch it every time it comes on TV.

Gimmee a freaking break. Are you suggesting her FAMILY didn't know her UNCLE was a "convicted sex offender"?

John Ford at his very best.

There were parts of the movie where I wept like a baby.

Donald Crisp deserved the Oscar he won for his role as Mr Morgan.

The book is much darker, showing the gradual disinagration of the village.

What he deserves is a quick execution.

What he’ll get is psychiatric treatment for his “disorder”, a nice cozy little cell, three square meals a day, free medical and dental care, visiting privileges, and unlimited legal help every step of the way. Not to mention lots of hand wringing by liberal social commentators who will lament society’s “failure” to help him live a normal life.

Yep, that’s Vermont. Disgusting.

Her father said he had never met the man. Of course it is possible he knew all about it but it is also possible he did not. I’m giving the man the benefit of the doubt.

Rope and tree are okay but can't use a noose, those have been banned. Good news though is that a bowline around the neck is much slower and more painful...

It would seem that "painful" excites a whole bunch of FReepers into frenzies of delight. Not good, IMHO, but if that's what frequents FR today let's at least be honest about it.

I'd settle for "swift and certain" -- and permit subsequent analysis (via Six-Sigma or other process) of the quality of the judicial system's product.

Just saw the update on the news. Apparently not. The poor girl. Her own family sounds like their own little cult of perversion. Did she ever have a chance in life!

VT is about to be bombarded over this, and they deserve it!

Oh snore. Call Jim Robinson cause I said a bowline would be slower and more painful then a noose. Oh noes.
