$15 cup of coffee

A coffee shop in Washington is offering a cup of coffee for $15. That’s right, $15.

The cup of coffee is brewed from the rare Panama Ezmarelda coffee bean. It’s called the best bean in the world. A roaster in Vancouver paid big bucks to buy 50 pounds of the bean. The coffee shop paid $100 for a half-pound bag that makes only 8 cups of the coffee.

Gail Rothrock joined the $15 coffee club. She says the coffee has a tropical fruit type flavor coming out of it.

"The coffee shop paid $100 for a half-pound bag that makes only 8 cups of the coffee."

That doesn't compute. Even if it was already roasted, a half pound of beans will make more than a measly 8 cups. If it was un-roasted, it would make even more.

Maybe they're talking really big cups.

I home roast using a Hot Top Drum Roaster. Maybe twice a week.

My Favorite is Colombian. The coffee's good, too.

Seriously, Colombian Huila has consistently delivered a "tropical fruit/pungent wood like" flavor that's better than any coffee I've ever tasted. I usually order about 20-25lbs at a time of various coffees, but I always get a several pounds of Huila.

$15 bucks for a cup of coffee? In a Civet's @ss...Oh, it comes out from there? No thanks...

I like to mis half Eight O'Clock beans with half Bokar beans.

I suppose that makes me a coffee snob.

She says the coffee has a tropical fruit type flavor coming out of it.

That was actually the smell of the gay Ecuadoran who brewed it for her.

I did some seismic oil/gas exploration in and around Duncan, Ok. There was a chain store, I guess you would call it a dairy store because all they sold was milk, ice cream and may be orange juice. They also made breakfast basically just biscuits, eggs and a great country sausage gravy. They served Cain's coffee. What a smooth cup of coffee!

Until Gail Rothrocks reports that the coffee is in the kitchen doing dishes and balancing her checkbook, I think she's crazy for paying that much for coffee.

Unless it's Kopi Luwak. What's not to love about weasel poop coffee?

I like my Bodum French press also. The flavor just kicks your taste buds into over drive. Great stuff. I use it to make a strong tea (loose leaf) for iced tea.

Ditto in the French press. Thanks for the idea of making tea it it. I am definitely trying that out!

Not really. Where do Bokar beans come from? I am open to trying good coffees.

Here's the best coffee I've ever had.

It's about $85/lb, and I only drank it because a freind made it for me in his new expresso machine.

It tasted great, and I was bouncing off the walls for a couple hours.

“I bought some Maxwell House because it was 2 for 1 on sale- no comparison.”

If it’s not on sale, or if I don’t have a coupon, I buy the store brand coffee. I’m not a connoisseur of coffee, I just know I love it, but, to me there’s no difference in taste between Folger’s, Maxwell House and the store brand. Basically, I’m just cheap.

I have a 10 cup press. To make 1 gallon of iced tea I use 4 level Tbsp loose leaf tea. I like to taste the tea. Pour in the boiling water, put the top on with the press part up and let it steep until it cools to warm. Add your sugar while it is warm. I use 1 and 1/4 cup sugar. Depends on your tastes for amount of sugar. Stir to dislove, press and then pour into a gallon container and add water to fill.

“If that woman dumped sugar into that coffee, I will personally beat her with a bag of coffee grinds...”

My sentiments are the same regarding good steak and steak sauce. I’ll actually say something when I see someone I know drench their expensive beef with sauce.

15 dollars a cup??? Whad do they think this is, STARBUCKS??? It’s obvious that Congress should let us grow more coffee offshore and in Alaska.

Speaking of steaks - I was surprised this morning by the arrival of four Allen Brothers rib eyes. Father’s Day present from brother-in-law and his wife.
