I was going to put on the gas mask and pull the lever for McCain this November but events of the past few days have led me not to vote for him.
1: McCain speaking at the racist, reconquista La Raza conference. 2: McCain still opposed to drilling in ANWR and comparing it to drilling in the Grand Canyon despite $4 + and climbing gas prices. Accoring to NRO Corner when asked about this he seemed peeved someone would have the audacity to ask him that question. 3: McCain giving veto power to coastal states on offshore drilling. The US owns these waters not the states. 4: McCain seemingly on board supporting windfall profits taxes and making a fascist statement that the government has the right to tell oil companies how they should invest in their money.
To be totally honest I live in CA where Obama is going to crush McCain but this will be the first time I do not vote for the GOP candidate for POTUS.

Don't fret.
I'm 'stuk hear in ILL-er-noise (gnu I shudda whent to collage)' and Obama will take it in a landslide [The Dead are already filing their absentee ballots] so my vote means even less than yours.
Ergo I can vote for someone who actually believes in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and thinks the USA is still a sovereign nation with borders -- ME!
Okay, 'series' -- I'm going with Bob Barr (no money just a vote). Let Juan McAmnesty try to win with the crossover Democrats, Liberals, Illegals, and mush brained 'Moderates' that got him the nomination through those Open Primaries.
“My principles. I am looking at the Constitution and the WHOLE Republic. You people are too caught up in wielding power to care one whit about the supreme law of the land.”
I’m quite sure the troops will appreciate your ‘principled’ assistance in making Obama their new Commander in Chief.
I get the message, Sir. No matter how lousy the candidate, no matter that it’s a documented Democrat, no matter it’s Socialist platforms, you’ll vote for it because it has an (R) around it’s neck.
Since they’ll literally hand you Big Tent types crap on bread and you’ll scream with delight, let’s see what they’ll try and get away with come 2012.
Yes you are. And stop acting like a juvenile.
Hey, did you hear the news about the Supreme Court giving rights to the terrorists? Refresh my memory concerning McCain, will ya? He doesn't like Gitmo, does he? He doesn't like waterboarding, am I correct?
If I am correct, looks like your boy is getting soft. Like a Democrat.
And putting John McCain in the whitehouse will help preserve the Constitution and the Republic how??? MAYBE short term benefit for the troops, though I wouldn’t even count on THAT... but most assuredly a disaster for the Nation as great as that of an OsamaObama presidency. So I will NOT go for the cheap “fix,” never again. Evil is still evil, whether it has the (D) or (R) after its name. And there is only the barest of a hint of a whisper of a rumor of any substantive difference between OsamaObama and Johnny McLame. So your implied guilt trip has lost its power. Too bad, so sad.
I think I am starting to “get it” as well Sir, it is better to remain ideologically “pure” and lose a war, then it is to “win” that same war.
Forrest=Trees
Same Same.
Better example...
Back when they were developing the Bomb, they knew that plutonium was one of the deadliest substances on earth. Even a microgram or so in the bloodstream was a guarantee of quick and awful death. So if someone got a cut on even the tip of a finger and got plutonium dust in it, IMMEDIATE, HIGH amputation was considered first aid and the ONLY way to save a life. Not even waiting, as I understand it, to get the victim to the hospital, it was done on site. That is, in my view, the situation we face with EITHER OsamaObama and Dangerous Johnny McLame.
CVV--this was my tipping point as well, as we have previously discussed. The intervening 16 years have not changed my mind. There has only been more fuel to add to my fire.
The GOP needs a new horse by September. If they don't scratch McLoon, we need to get as many Republicans elected to Congress as possible.
I don't even trust the GOP and the RNC to see the simple logic there.
Funny. You people are so "principled" when it comes to the Troops and the war, yet you expect everyone else to scuttle their principles because of your Party masochism.
This has to be the Twilight Zone.
Bravo, well said!!!
Time to grow up. Our next president will be Obama or McCain. I don’t like Johnny, but Barry’s even worse. And the fact that you think McCain’s “my boy” only advertises your ignorance.
Aren’t you one of those saying we must abandon principle and vote for McLame DESPITE his record? I would say that makes him YOUR BOY.
No. It makes me a grown up.
“yet you expect everyone else to scuttle their principles because of your Party masochism”
I do believe you have it all wrong, I don’t particularly care a damn bit what you do or don’t do, do not flatter yourself there is nothing to “expect” that would imply confidence in your congintive abilites.
And that would be a false confidence indeed.
We have a simple choice, win or lose in Iraq, if you do not believe that, then you have not paid attention to Barack Obamao, if you have, and know a Obama election means a US loss, and still believe what you have mentioned, then good day to you this is fruitless.
Good Evening then.
So the “grown up” thing to do is abandon all principles, vote for evil, thus encouraging the growth of MORE evil and call that a GOOD thing? The “grown up” thing to do is shut your eyes to someone’s actual RECORD and proclaim that person as a good choice? The “grown up” thing to do is to forsake whatever goodness might lie within you to put an evil toady of the Left into the once-Whitehouse just so an EQUALLY evil person (who wears a different talisman) WON’T get in there? How do you ever explain to your kids the difference between good and evil if you keep behaving in this “grown up” way? How do you teach them to AVOID evil if you REWARD it?
The very last time I voted for the lesser evil was in 1972, for Richard Nixon. And the ONLY reason I did so was because his Phase II troop withdrawals from Vietnam took me out of harm’s way. A is still A and evil is yet evil, no matter the label it wears. A thing is yet itself, constant and unchangeable. One cannot make a silk purse from a sow’s ear no matter how much wishful thinking goes into the effort. So please do GROW UP and develop some actual principles. They’ll stand you in good stead one day. Perhaps sooner than you think.
Your ego is more important to you than our military. That’s where you and I disagree.
As someone who has spent my whole adult life in the Marine Corps, I can safely say that my Marines and ALL the troops mean more to me than you could possibly understand. Which is why I want to see a TRUE CONSERVATIVE running the show and I will NOT accept any substitutes. The whole future of our Republic and the Constitution which founded it is at stake and you want tweedledumber instead of tweedledumb. Makes sense to me. NOT.
I am honored, especially since it came from a Marine.
“And putting John McCain in the whitehouse will help preserve the Constitution and the Republic how???”
You’ve been around freerepublic a long time and I’ve read many of your posts. There is no doubt in my mind that you truely want what is best for this Republic.
It is also clear in my mind that McCain will do far less harm to the Consitution and this Republic than the messianic figure of Obama. For that reason, and that reason alone, I will vote for McCain since any other vote only increases the chances that severe damage will be done to the Constitution and the Republic.
To me, any vote based upon the principle that ‘the lesser of two evils, is still evil’ is a very selfish choice. Sure, it may give one a warm and fuzzy feeling but the personal satisfaction of that feeling must be balanced by a rational assessment of what is best for this Republic. If that means that I must ignore my ‘principles’ and preferences, then I will vote for the good of the Republic and subordinate my own feelings.
