Que Sarah, Sarah
The American Spectator ^ | 5/26/08 | Thomas Cheplick

As John McCain inches closer to the 1,191 delegates he needs to secure the Republican nomination, attention has turned to the vice presidential sweepstakes. Who should McCain pick as his running mate? The answer will be especially important if the aging four-term senator's general election foe is a youthful freshman agitating for change.

Sarah Palin, the beautiful conservative Republican governor of Alaska, would be an ideal choice to help McCain slay this unholy ObamaOprah beast which is set to rake in nearly $50 million a month in campaign donations alone, and has intense auxiliary support coming from the unions, George Soros's billions-infused Democracy Alliance organization, and other rich Democratic networks.

Mrs. Palin is one of conservatism's own, and would be the first female vice president. She's young being only 44 (two years behind Senator Obama), she is wildly known to despise government corruption. She defeated a horribly entrenched and corrupt Republican political machine in Alaska. She has a son in the U.S. military. She's strongly pro-life, belonging, in fact, to Feminists for Life.

Gov. Palin could become the Republican Party's Segolene Royal, the French Socialist Party's glamorous leader known for her heels and political bite. She is the perfect antidote to Sen. Obama's cheap thrills, and would help rejuvenate conservatism.

If Camille Paglia or the huffers on Huffington Post are anything to go by, the standard line that will be repeated often against John McCain will be that he's an "old coot"; a vintage George C. Scott-style warmonger; old; hypocritical; and just plain odd.

She might bring me back into the fold. Anyone that would sue the EPA must be at least kinda cool. I look forward to the details.

"Gov. Palin could become the Republican Party's Segolene Royal, the French Socialist Party's glamorous leader known for her heels and political bite."

Royal was also a kook moonbat who lost the election to the Conservative, Nicolas Sarkozy. A bad comparison.

If she’s the best qualified great, but I’d hate the see the GOP dragged into a game of identity politics one-upsmanship with the Dems. Not only on principle, but because it’s a game the GOP won’t win.

I understand but she looks good (politically) from everything I can find. If she really is a solid conservative, being a woman couldn’t hurt. Anyone willing to fight for ANWR, is Pro-life and will sue the EPA has my respect at least unless someone digs something up:)

Lifetime member of the NRA and an actual sportsman! :-) [That's a picture of her hunting with her son, below, and fishing.] She's a good conservative in the mold of Old Alaska, IMHO. The GOP could do a lot worse than she!

What I posted in an earlier thread about her, and I haven't heard reason to change my mind...
She's definitely a very beautiful woman, and has always seemed authentic to me. Maybe I'm just a sucker for her pretty face, and maybe it's beauty queen poise training that allows her to handle fish like a pro, but I actually believe she was a commercial and sport fisherman, and while I'm not so sure I'd agree with all of her positions, I believe she would bring energy to a ticket, and social conservatism that's respectful of individual rights. But again, maybe it's just wishful thinking, after all the disappointments in the prez track.

In summary, I think she'd be a smart pic for a VP slot. I just wouldn't want her choosing names for anything (her children are Bristol, Piper, Track, and Willow). :-)

Yikes, I used the subjective pronoun. Sorry.

Lol... have you seen any pictures? Her kids are adorable! But I might have chosen different names myself.

When I hear Bristol and Track, I think NASCAR!
When I hear Willow and Piper, I think Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Piper’s not a bad name for a girl. Willow got the name for a town near her home of Wasilla, as is Bristol another town in AK. But Track and Trig are just cruel.

Buffy was cool! But maybe the names weren’t...

It's not as bad as what the author of the piece did here:

She's young being only 44 (two years behind Senator Obama), she is wildly known to despise government corruption.

Either she's "widely known to despise" or she's "known to wildly despise" would have been okay. In addition, he forgot his punctuation between 'young' and 'being' and used the wrong punctuation after the parenthetical reference to Obama.

That said, Sarah is gorgeous!!!

Omg, she’s almost perfect. He’ll never pick her!

But if he did, I’d vote for him.

Wonkette is likely quite upset with the birth of Trig...after all, she'd discounted Gov. Palin as a VP pick because of the pregnancy.

You know, if I were naming a kid with a Norse name and it had to have 4 letters and start with a T, I think I'd pick Thor rather than Trig. Reminds me of math, of course.

How about...

Well, I also misplaced an adverb (”actually”) but it’s late...I have to grab an hour of sleep and then get ready for the office. :-(

Yes...it's an insult to Gov. Palin, IMO.

Stop dreaming. McCain will not even consider Gov. Palin, she is to conservative. McCain will not pick any VP candidate who does not share his views on illegal immigration, drilling in ANWR or off shore U.S., and on and on. He will pick another RINO or even a Dem, someone he can dominate.

She definitely sounds good on the political front. I’ve never heard her speak, but she looks positive and engaging. Her husband seems like a very normal human being, too, and I don’t think there’d be any surprises there. Her last child, btw, has Down’s Syndrome.
