According to the Border Patrol, the incident started when a stolen Lincoln Navigator pulled up in front of a home that was under surveillance by the the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. The vehicle, which was being driven by a woman, left the home and turned up Millar Ranch Road.
From there, officials pulled the car over, which they said had two people inside. Officials said as a Border Patrol agent and a U.S. marshal approached the vehicle, the driver drove the car toward the agent in what officials are calling an "aggressive manner." At that point, the agent fired two rounds at the SUV, officials said.
Muslim loses complaint about veil removal
A federal judge in Detroit has dismissed the case of a Muslim woman who sued a judge for demanding she remove her veil in court. The judge ruled Monday against Ginnnah Muhammad’s claims that her rights to freedom of religion and court access were violated.

Man pleads guilty in China spy case
A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty in Alexandria, Va., to a charge of delivering defense information to China, U.S. officials said.
The U.S. Justice Department said the information dealt primarily with U.S. military sales to Taiwan and U.S. military communications security, classified at the "secret" level. Tai Shen Kuo, 58, a naturalized U.S. citizen, faces up to life in prison.
A former FBI and CIA agent was fined Tuesday but won't be sent to prison or her native Lebanon for faking a marriage to gain U.S. citizenship and improperly searching an FBI database.
Nada Nadim Prouty, 38, "erred in judgment" when she lied to enter the U.S. in 1989 but has provided "exemplary service to the country" as a federal agent, U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn said.
The judge ordered Prouty to pay $975 in fines and fees and signed an order revoking her citizenship, but Prouty's attorney Thomas Cranmer said later she will not be deported.

Rash of manhole cover thefts in Long Beach, California - over 50 stolen
There's been a rash of thefts of manhole covers in the city of Long Beach. Some 55 have been stolen in the past few months -- five of which were just discovered missing on Tuesday. The problem is that when left uncovered, the holes are a danger to people and cars.
Take a drive and you're hardly ever notice them -- until they're gone. Long Beach is suddenly short on manhole covers.
In the last few months, over 50 have been stolen, and 22 in the last 10 days. Why would someone want to steal manhole covers?

I would think that some one found a way to turn them in for $$$ at a metal recycling facility.
Of all the possibilities; that is the tamest and I hope that is it.
I wonder if any of the security cameras (either residential or commercial) caught who was ripping off those manhole covers.

Juan Leonardo Quintero was convicted May 8 of killing Officer Rodney Johnson after Johnson pulled over Quintero in September 2006.
Quintero had a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated, and he received deferred adjudication for indecency with a child before being deported to his native Mexico in 1999. He slipped back into the country that same year.
In 2006, as Quintero sat handcuffed in the back of Johnson’s police cruiser, he took a gun from his waistband and shot the 12-year police veteran seven times as Johnson was filling out paperwork in the front seat of his vehicle.
Before convicting Quintero, the jury rejected the defense’s claim that a childhood head injury and excessive alcohol consumption since the age of eight led to the killing.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “DUJIANGYAN (AFP) - The full horror of the devastating China earthquake began to emerge Wednesday as rescuers discovered whole towns all but wiped off the map, pushing the death toll well above 20,000.
Military and police teams punched into the heart of the disaster zone, with 100 troops parachuting into a county that was previously cut off while planes and helicopters air-dropped emergency supplies.
But the message that came back from this mountainous corner of southwestern Sichuan province was that town after town was flattened by the 7.9-magnitude quake that struck two days ago.
The death toll has soared well above 20,000, but that toll is rising by the hour as more information comes in from stricken communities.
“The losses have been severe,” Wang Yi, who heads an armed police unit sent into the epicentre zone, was quoted as saying by Sichuan Online news site.
“Some towns basically have no houses left. They have all been razed to the ground.””
