C.Q. C.Q. All Freeper hams.

C.Q. C.Q. all ham radio operators, short wave listeners, public service monitors and anyone interested in the subject. Im announcing my wish to revive the Ham Radio ping list.
A lost Freeper (Denver Ditdat) had the list at one time, but with his absence for almost two years, and his freepmail to me that he had lost most of the original list, I think that the ping list should be built again.
There is a large population of Freepers who are hams. My wish in resurrecting this ping list is to once again bring news pertaining to all FReepers, hams and those that want to be.
Those in charge apparently believe the money is better spent elsewhere.........(eyes rolling)
US to give Pakistan $73 million for border security
The United States State Department on Tuesday night in a statement said it would provide Pakistan with $73 million dollars in emergency funds to safeguard the security of its borders, particularly with Afghanistan.
Good news - US to spend $23 million on border fence
Item: The US government is forking over $23 million to help build the border fence and calling in the Army Corps of Engineers to assist with construction.
Bad news: The money is going to build the border fence in
Egypt.
I’m unable to respond to your post MamaDearest.
I’d get tossed from FR if I did.

“Barney Frank Will Move to Defund War Under Democrat President”
By Josiah Ryan
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
May 07, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “On the Spot (CNSNews.com) - House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) told Cybercast News Service on Tuesday he will move to end the Iraq War with an immediate termination of funding if a Democrat becomes president next year.
“I will move to cut funding immediately,” said Frank. “I have already done that. I voted against the war and voted to cut the funding. I would hope a Democratic president would put in place a plan that would begin a total withdrawal.””

“Pakistani Taliban, Iraqi al Qaeda operatives killed in Afghanistan”
By BILL ROGGIO
(May 11, 2008 7:28 PM)
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Thirteen Taliban, including a deputy of Mullah Nazir, a senior Taliban leader in South Waziristan, were killed in a clash with NATO and Afghan forces in the eastern Afghanistan province of Paktika. In a separate clash, two al Qaeda leaders, including a former leader in al Qaeda’s Islamic State of Iraq, were killed during fighting in neighboring Paktia province.
US and Afghan forces killed Maulana Iqbal and 12 other Taliban fighters in a major clash in Pakitka province. Twelve of the 13 Taliban killed during the fighting were from Pakistan, The Hindu reported. Nine of the Taliban were from South Waziristan, two were from Punjab province, and one was from Hyderabad in Sindh province. The bodies of the Taliban fighters have been sent back to Pakistan for burial.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Two al Qaeda leaders killed in Afghanistan
The same day that Iqbal and the 11 Pakistani Taliban were reported killed, al Qaeda announced the death of two of its operatives in Afghanistan. Al Ekhlaas, an al Qaeda forum, announced the death of Abu Suleiman al Otaibi and Abu Dejana al Qahtani during a battle in Paktia on an unspecified date.
Al Otaibi is described as the former leader of the legal system of al Qaeda in Iraq’s political front, the Islamic State of Iraq. Abu Uthman al Tamimi is listed as current minister of the Islamic State of Iraq’s sharia, or Islamic law, council.
Abu Dejana al Qahtani was also reported killed along with al Otaibi. Information on Qahtani is not currently available.”

“Hezbollah ‘redrawing’ Mideast map”
By Joshua Mitnick
May 12, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “”What happened in Gaza in 2007 is an achievement; now it is happening in 2008 in Lebanon. It’s going to happen in 2009 in Jordan and it’s going to happen in 2010 in Egypt,” Sheik Khader said in an interview.
“We are seeing a redrawing of the map of the Middle East where the forces of resistance and steadfastness are the ones moving the things on the ground.”
His remarks highlight how a growing alliance linking Hamas, Iran and Hezbollah straddles the Shi’ite-Sunni rift.
The notion of new countries falling under Islamist influence reflects a goal of Hamas’ parent group, the Muslim Brotherhood, of replacing secular Arab regimes with Islamist governments.”
A very good idea. -Cindy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE No. 20080512-05
May 12, 2008
Coalition Soldiers find weapons cache (Maderiyah)
2nd BCT, 3rd Inf. Div. PAO
Multi-National Division Center PAO
FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq Coalition forces discovered a
weapons cache near Maderiyah May 9 on a joint mission with the Iraqi Army.
A tip from an area citizen led Soldiers from Battery B, 1st Battalion, 9th
Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, to the home
where two suspected weapons dealers were staying.
The suspects were detained and informed Battery B and Iraqi Army
Soldiers with Company C, 5th Battalion, 25th Brigade, 6th IA Division, of the
location of four separate weapons caches during questioning.
One of the detainees led the Soldiers to the locations.
The cache contained 16 57 mm rockets in their original packaging, an
operational 23 mm anti-aircraft gun, two PKC machine guns in excellent
condition, two operational AK-47 rifles, one rocket-propelled grenade round,
three full AK-47 magazines, 800 AK-47 rounds, 1,000 PKC rounds, nine
ammunition vests and four ski masks.
Capt. Richard Aaron, commander of Battery B, said he believed the
weapons had been used against Coalition and Iraqi forces last year when al-
Qaeda in Iraq operated in the area.
Although most of the AQI leadership was detained, killed or fled the area
late last year, men who helped AQI and some of their lower-level fighters have
blended back into the local population, Aaron said. They maintain the caches
because they are prepared to fight U.S. and Iraqi Army forces if AQI leaders
return.
Aaron, a native of Boston, said the Iraqi Army played a major role in taking
the weapons out of the hands of enemy fighters.
They
have a gifted ability to obtain information by understanding the
people, he said. We have worked hard to ensure citizens in the area trust the IA
and are willing to work with both them and U.S. forces.
Although not actively working with AQI right now, Aaron said the detainees
probably worked for AQI in the past.
They were very dangerous because they were hiding weapons and most
likely willing to facilitate attacks against Coalition forces in the future, he said.
The detainees and munitions were taken into custody for further
questioning and investigation.

Thanks for the ping, Cindy.
I had not expected such an agressive move by the hezzies in Lebanon. But what it does is strengthen their position for an eventual conflict with Israel by permitting them to operate with out interference. They are getting their rear area secure first.
You’re welcome bd476.
