Tunes For The Troops
**Artist Showcase**
Disturbed is a rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The group was formed in 1996 when musicians Dan Donegan, Steve "Fuzz" Kmak, and Mike Wengren hired singer David Draiman in Chicago, Illinois. Originally classified as a nu metal band, Disturbed is now regarded by some music critics as hard rock or heavy metal, although others now regard them as alternative metal. However, the band's genre is still being debated. When asked about die-hard metal fans not finding Disturbed heavy enough, frontman David Draiman stated:
"We probably have too much melody going on or we're not quite as turbulent or caustic. While I really love that type of music, it's not what we try to do. If we have to place things in context, we're more hard rock than heavy metal these days."
This music is provided for the entertainment of our Troops, Veterans, Allies & their families!
Enjoy the variety of musical selections that the Canteen Deejays provide throughout the thread. Please ping LaurenMarlowe with your requests for the Troops.

WHEW! Am I tired. Back now from Camporee and it was a BLAST.
Had as one of the events a Cast Iron Cook Off by Troops (had 10 that chose to enter) and in “Iron Chef” style competition the Troops presented their evening meal to 3 professional food service judges.
The judges had never done this with Scouts and HOO-BOY were they surprised at the offerings. They even asked for some of the recipes to use in their profession and all said they want to be involved as judges the next time we did this.

Released in December 1965 - and capping a year that had been defined by groundbreaking singles such as Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" and the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" -
Rubber Soul finds the Beatles rising to meet the challenge their peers had set. Characteristically, they achieved a new musical sophistication and a greater depth without sacrificing pop appeal. Producer George Martin described Rubber Soul as, "the first album to present a new, growing Beatles to the world," and so it was.
The album was recorded in just over four weeks, in time to to make the Christmas market. It was a major artistic achievement for the band, attaining widespread critical and commercial success, with reviewers taking note of The Beatles' developing musical vision. Though it never had a number one hit, In 2003, the album was ranked number 5 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
The band's development expressed itself in a variety of overlapping ways. Dylan's influence suffuses the album, accounting for the tart emotional tone of "Norwegian Wood," "I'm Looking Through You," "You Won't See Me" and "If I Needed Someone." "In My Life" reflects the more serious and personal style of songwriting that Dylan had suddenly made possible.
Musically speaking, George Harrison's sitar on "Norwegian Wood" - the first time the instrument was used in a pop song - and Paul McCartney's fuzz bass on "Think for Yourself" document the band's increasing awareness that the studio could be more than a pit stop between tours. From this point on, a fascination with the sonic possibilities of recording would inspire the Beatles' greatest work.
Harrison called Rubber Soul "the best one we made," because, "we were suddenly hearing sounds that we weren't able to hear before." Lennon said it "was the first time," the band "had complete creative control and enough studio time to get things right". "There was a lot of experimentation on Rubber Soul," said Ringo Starr, "influenced, I think, by the substances."

A Southwest recipe that called for dutch oven refried beas and cheese, fresh mad Taco shells and pulled chicken filling, fresh Salsa and a fresh made drink that looked some what like Sangria but was totally non-alchoholic.
