The U.S. military are investigating a shocking video of a smiling Marine throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside in Iraq into a gully below.
The video gained widespread attention and condemnation after appearing on the web site YouTube, where it has been viewed over 8,000 times.
The footage shows two Marines, in combat gear and smiling, as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck.

The small dog seems to be about eight weeks old and is motionless as it is held.
"Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly.
"Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice.
The Marine holding the puppy then turns and hurls the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below.
The puppy can be heard yelping in terror until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully.
"That's mean," one Marine says after, in a sickening understatement.
"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," a spokesperson revealed.
Marine spokesman Major Chris Perrine believed the culprit is based in Hawaii.
"We do not tolerate this type of behaviour and will take appropriate action," he said.
The 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment of about 1,000 Hawaii Marines recently replaced a sister unit in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii said the vast majority of Marines "conduct their duties in an honourable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States."
"There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children," said Major Chris Perrine.
"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."
Prosecute this guy to the fullest extent.

Those TWO males have NO BUSINESS being in the Marines or any other respectable military organization. They need to be thrown out - they are SADISTIC!

Wait a minute. Don’t muslims abuse and neglect dogs as a matter of course? Perhaps this was just these Marines’ attempt at “respecting the culture”.
I wish there was more interest in the manner in which women are treated in Muslim countries than in the way a couple of Marines in a war zone killed a puppy.
I read what you posted before. It’s heartwarming to see other men in uniform being so KIND and LOVING towards animals.

As far as the puppy, if they did it, it’s awful. Does that merit the headline “America’s Shame”...a little over the top, IMHO. We had a football star in this country that treated dogs deplorably, so a couple lone Marines being inhumane to an animal is possible. There are bad apples in every group. I’d first have to be convinced the video is real and not photoshopped or faked.

It’s a life that should not have been taken in such a sadistic way. If you think that this is not disturbing then perhaps you have the SAME problem of these other two males that see it as funny. It’s sadistic. We should not want sadists in the military or anywhere else. Most disturbed people start out with abusing animals ... these two are well on the way to working up to abusing human beings.

Maybe ... but there are a few questions about that assertion that have to be asked.
1. If it's "enemy propaganda," who convinced this "Marine" to appear in the video? Is this "Marine" the enemy?
2. If it's "enemy propaganda," who posted it on YouTube?
3. If the people in the video are really "Marines," what are we to think of Marines who would do something like that?
I think it's not "enemy propaganda." I think it's some sick f*cks who will probably end up killing people once they're out of the Marines. They need to be caught, punished, and tracked for the rest of their lives.
Man I hope this is fake.

Obama will pass a bill making puppy tossing a federal crime and giving PETA law enforcement weapons and power to arrest.
Sure looks and sounds fake. Reminds me of the fake video where a baby gets kicked by grandma.

I have a hard time believing the video is not fake, but I will await actual confirmation.
