Primary Voters: Vote against McCain! Vote for deadlock! Vote anyone but McCain!
Feb 9, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 02/09/2008 11:44:24 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Folks, there still may be a slim chance to force a deadlocked convention. I'm no election math wizard, but I believe it's still mathematically possible for McCain to NOT receive the requisite number of delegates to win the nomination. But it would require a great turnout of passionate conservative voters in the remaining primary states to accomplish.

The trick would be for all remaining primary conservative voters to vote for their favorite candidate as if he were still in the race. Fred's name is still on the ballot. So is Hunter's and Romney's. Shoot, vote for Huckabee, Paul or even Giuliani if you wish. Anyone but McCain!

None of the others can possibly win, but it's still possible for McCain to lose. Let it go to the convention and force the GOP to publicly fight it out as if its very life depended on it. Because it does.

What do we have to lose? As it stands now, more and more conservatives are declaring their intentions to sit out the general. If McCain is our candidate, looks like Hillary/Obama will be our next president. Don't let it happen. Vote for any GOPer other than McCain!

Vote for any GOPer other than McCain!

I do NOT own a white flag...I'm not about to buy one, and I'll be damned if I'm ever going to MAKE one. There's no way I'm going to just sit around and let McCain schmooze his way in (Actually the liberal media are using their political equivalent of a "shoe horn" to force him in).

McCain is too weird, too psychotic and way too unpredictable for me.

As a voter you tend to make a mental prediction as to what the person you're voting for would do in office.

You can pretty much see where that puts me with McCain.

The MSM has been using an old saltwater (& some in freshwater) fishing technique known as "chumming".

With saltwater fish like, for example, blackfin tuna, you lay out a chum-line of cut bait, minnows, and whatever you can come up with. The chum line trails behind the boat and the targeted fish (you hope) comes to eat the free goodies like they're in a buffet line.

Then he bites on the especially attractive big chunk.....the one with the hook in it.

How different from that scenario is what the liberal media have been doing for some time now, with McCain.

I can guarantee you, they have a big hook and will reel him in at just the right time...probably very late in the game when there is little or no time for rebuttal.

We've all been exposed to the media version of this...be careful before you bite!

Ever check Huckabee’s actual record with what he says about it? Ever check Romney’s actual record with what Huckabee has said about it?

It’s obvious you didn’t bother to.

Beware of politicians courting the Christian vote.

Good luck to your candidate.

Hunter's our choice. {{{sigh}}} Oh what the hay, hope is free. Maybe the Earth will spin off its axis and Hunter will be our next president. :)

I think this is flawed logic. Failing to vote for McCain is the best way to put a Democrat in the White House. Every poll (not that they mean that much) says McCain is the one R who can beat Hillary or Obama. Read the article on Realclear politics by Robert McFarlane that ends with this:

“there is the cost of their extremist rhetoric to the Republican Party. As President Reagan once told me, “Going over the cliff, flags flying, is still going over the cliff.”

Here's the data to date. Give me a couple of minutes to analyze the breakdown of remaining delegates and I will add ot to the table with a table of remaining state primaries and respective delegate counts. Note: estimate is based off combined total.

TOTAL 1191 TO WIN - TOTAL OUTSTANDING 1035
CANDIDATE # PLEDGED # UNPLEDGED COMBINED TOTAL # NEEDED % NEEDED
MCCAIN 697 17 714 477 46.10%
HUCKABEE 178 3 181 1010 97.58%
PAUL 16 0 16 1175 113.5%
ROMNEY 286 0 286 905 87.43%

I have no problem with trying to stop McCain before or even during the convention. But once he has become the bona fide nominee, it's no longer a battle for ideology, but an attempt at damage control. That's what primaries are for. I was a FredHead (donated to his campaign and a yard sign is still planted in my front yard ), and we all were given a fair chance to get our candidates nominated. If we couldn't, we accept it, and we move on and try harder next time. It's Democrats who bi*ch and whine and moan after losing elections. Us conservatives accept reality and make best with what we have.

The liberal media weren’t the only ones trashing Romney. We had a lot of people doing it here, sometimes saying really vacuous things such as, (in talking about Romney’s healthcare plan requiring people to prioritize their health in drawing up their budgets)

“Yeah I know, it’s actually PRIVATE but the GOVERNMENT pays for it”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1967138/posts

If our own at FR can maintain that a plan can simultaneously be both PRIVATE and PUBLIC, then the nomination of McCain should surprise no one. We lack the rigor to make these decisions. You’re right. We now have no right to complain.

Possible. The other possibility is Huckabee for President. As a compromise by the convention.

Better than McCain. I'm not a Huckabee fan, but I'd much rather have him than McCain, if those are the only choices.

Who knows? Nothing's carved in stone yet.
