Who else was he supposed to back?

The hysteria resulting from this is truly bizarre. Geez, peoplel grow up--McCain's the Republican nominee, vote for him or don't, but how radical is it that Thompson comes out for McCain AFTER the nomination is already wrapped up? Who else was he going to support, the goofball Huckabee, who couldn't win against HRC's or Obama's DOG, for Pete's sake?

McCain sure isn't my choice, but if one is running for a political party's nomination, one supports the inevitable nominee. No one can say his endorsement made any difference.

I couldn't care less about this endorsement, and I like Fred and cringe at the thought of McCain. But I'm a lot angrier at all the whinea**es around here with their "He's boring!" and demands that Fred perform card tricks or something to "get their vote". It's waaaaay too late to be all crazy about our nominee; the time to defeat McCain is long past--when people were supporting go-nowhere candidates like Huckabee and, alas, Hunter and shrieking about 20 hours of Fred's work for a pro-choice group (as opposed to a certain CA governor's support of abortion in the 60's).

Fred failed as a candidate; that's his fault. But the incessant childishness of those who "stood on principle" with their candidates who had zero chance of winning instead of rallying around ONE conservative who actually had a shot at appealing to the nation at large just shows how we got in this mess--because the wheels are off the party wagon, and we'd rather point fingers over stupid crap like a meaningless endorsement than do what RWR did and compromise on relatively minor points.

Now go back to telling me why losing in 2006 was going to set us up for a big win in 2008.

The Republican Party has finally 'left me'.

In the space of just a few days--nominating McCain and then sponsoring and passing a WEALTH TRANSFER SCHEME--aka known as a 'rebate' from the most productive citizens to the least productive. No thanks--these two were the last straws.

Enjoy your 'new Party'!

Don’t know about 3rd party, but after McCain told David Letterman last year that our troops lives had been wasted, (by Bush, he implied), and of course he got his NYC applause, I knew he was a kook.

That was the last straw, I knew I could never consider him, and I still don’t.

A man with that kind of character, never.

There is only ONE source still for this article.

And the statement is so short, it is not even remotely close to an endorsement. At best, it is a reluctant call to unite around him since he is the clear frontrunner and it is mathematically impossible for Huckabee to win.

The ComPost calls it an endorsement, but it isn’t....

I believe Fred always said he’d support the republican nominee.

I see your point, but if that isn’t an endorsement, it’s damn close to one. Guess we’ll have the definitive answer in the next few days.

The WOT and SCOTUS is too important an issue to waste your vote on Clinton or Obama. I don’t want it to be McCain, but I will vote for him b/c the WOT is the MOST important issue. Nothing else matters if you are dead.

Well, here we disagree. I’ve seen/read vicious attacks for no reason. I’ve read posts that are nasty just because someone is voting for or has voted for some politician. It surprised me. I never expected it here. My mistake.

I’m all for discussion and disagreement and debate but the name calling just doesn’t do it for me.

And, I’ve had incredibly fun experiences on here. Those far outweigh the nastiness.

Feelings run deep all the time for whatever reason but rudeness and viciousness should never be given a pass.

I’m so tired of the PC crap everywhere. Tell me I suck and I reply but dont’ coat it some PC crap. Or some inside joke I won’t get.

I’ve learned tons here and appreciate it but wonder if the nastiness and BS is worth the fun and info. Well, wonder if it’s worth the fun cos it’s all about the fun for me (hang me now).

Hattie: “Do you realize there are millions of us out here who still have not even voted? We get John McCain and are completely disenfranchised at the same time.”

I’m sorry. For what it’s worth, you aren’t the only one who was disenfranchised. I wanted Thompson. The primary process is so incredibly flawed, and I think it’s designed to work against conservatives. Here’s why:

Here’s another look:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1801999/posts

The whole primary process is a mess. Every state has it’s own rules and many are jockeying for a stronger position. Since it’s a party matter, the party needs to step in and establish a consistent set of rules for all states.

I swear, sometimes I think FR is no better than DU.

Some of you REALLY need to learn to read instead of believing everything the MSM tells you.

As best as I can tell, the entire statement of this so-called “ENDORSEMENT” is a paragraph saying since McCain will be the nominee, we need to rally around him and unite as a party and toss aside our previous preferences etc.

He doesn’t even say he supports or endorses McCain at all. He says it is time to unite to fight against the Dems.

Conservatives are supposed to be able to read, but I guess many of you lack that ability.

Get over it FR. We lost Man Up! Maybe we should look at our message and ask why it only gets 10-15% of Repubs.

>Remember, the party leaders have a say in this - the candidate will be given the privilege of announcing “his” choice - but he will not make that choice arbitrarily -

Please explain exactly what that “say” is in the context of my following point

>The last person JFK wanted for VP was Johnson - they hated each other. But JFK was told Johnson was it.

I do remember being a very small child when that convention was held, or at least the GOP one was the one my family tuned into.

All done in smoke filled rooms behind closed doors where the candidates and the party planks were hammered out before the modern day “reforms” were put in place mandating direct popular vote for delegates chosen by that candidate’s political campaign committee, who then cast open votes, at least in the first round.

That being the case now, I ask again what is the exact basis for your statement.
