How Many Freepers Will Leave The GOP?
Man50D

Romney has now bowed out of the race leaving only McCain, Paul and Huckabee. It's impossible the latter two have any chance of garnering enough delegates to win the nomination. That leaves McCain. He has slapped Conservatives in the face more than enough times by siding with Socialist Democrats on issues. It's clear McCain will take the GOP farther to the left. The question now becomes how many of you have had enough of the GOP abandoning Conservatism and will in turn leave the GOP?

The republican party does not represent me & my beliefs. My beliefs are deeply rooted in conservatism.
There isn't much difference anymore between the pubbies & the rats. YES, I'm gone. Hope there is a grass roots movement for a NEW third party of Conservatives!

Regardless of who I vote for in future generals, I'm gone. The only reason to stay in it anyway is a chance to vote in the primaries, and the race is always over before it gets to my state anyway.
I'm now embarrassed & disgusted to be associated with a socialist-leaning (keeps getting worse) Republican party that would nominate a scumbag like McLame to be its nominee.
I downloaded a voter registration form this morning, marked the box to change my party affiliation, and changed from Republican (after 25 years) to "unaffiliated". Now I have to wait until next Tuesday to mail it in, since Maryland law [correctly] restricts changes in party affiliation up to 21 days before a primary or general election - and the state primaries here are 2/12 next Tuesday.

This is indeed a complex problem. But... I’ll be joining the Constitution Party.

I can’t leave what I never joined. I’ve been an independent since I was 18. And that was a long time ago.

"Lets retake the GOP!"
Let's set our sights higher and retake the government.
I am respectfully suggesting conservatives move beyond party politics and seriously consider getting on the ballots for Congressional District seats as Independents.
Free Republic is much more than a conservative web site. It is a community of real living, breathing people. Who knows what a few FReepers might accomplish if they turn to this community as a grassroots organization to win elections? There is no reason why FReepers should continue their support of candidates that do not share their core values. We can all do better if we work together, and the bast place to begin is by inspiring others within our community to seek elective office.

I left the GOP during the last Amnesty debate. I couldn’t stand it anymore when McCain, Lindsay Graham, and George Bush called me a racist/bigot and told me to sit down and shut up.
I reregistered as an Independent.

Lets retake the GOP! Starting with supporting conservatives for Congressmen and Senators! Resignation and surrender will ONLY ensure an eternal Democrat grip on power! I am with you on retaking the GOP but be careful or you will get branded as a McCain supporter like I was.

sheesh, this is a glich.. nothing more, a blip in history. The next Ronald Reagon will restore the dream. Give it another 4 to 8 years. Well given the historic trend since Reagan, I think it's highly unlikely this will happen. What true conservative leader (limited government being my primary issue, among the others) is waiting in the wings out there that we aren't aware of?
Regardless, if such a candidate arises, I'll go back to the Republican party. In the meantime, I prefer to maintain my dignity and not be labeled by it or associated with it.
