Romney has now bowed out of the race leaving only McCain, Paul and Huckabee. It's impossible the latter two have any chance of garnering enough delegates to win the nomination. That leaves McCain. He has slapped Conservatives in the face more than enough times by siding with Socialist Democrats on issues. It's clear McCain will take the GOP farther to the left. The question now becomes how many of you have had enough of the GOP abandoning Conservatism and will in turn leave the GOP?
We;ll have something substantial up on that site next week.
Conservatives that will vote for McCAin or Huckabee because they don't want Hillery to win, are telling McCain, they SUPPORT Amnesty, global warming, silencing of free speech, etc. In addition to that, McCain is a very mean and rude man, and I don't want him representing this Country as a Republican.
I agree with you 100%. I will not be financially supporting the RNC for the foreseeable future.
And hey, my dad has a barn, and we could use the shower curtain. Let’s put on a show! / s
Sorry. We have to keep the pressure on the GOP, not run out and become irrelevant.
Live in your hypotheticals. Right now Huck is the alternative to McCain and the only way to stop him. For those that think badly of Huckabee it has the added bonus of Huck being very unlikely to get the delegates needed to win at the convention so it is a pure vote for a contested convention. There is no downside if you oppose McCain as nominee to voting Huck at this point . . . even if you like McCain better than Huck.
I might sit this one out. Not a good day, I guess the little napoleon/macnhurian candidate is gathering his cavalry as we speak. What a downer and bummer, two songs are appropriate for this occasion - Amy Winehouse: Rehab and You Know I’M No Good. Well it is off with Hubby and the Little One to My In-Laws, to celebrate the Chinese New Year, so to all my Fellow Freepers: Gung Hay Fat Choy....../Just Asking - seoul62.......
Yeah that is troublesome. What we need is a Contract with America II, so there will be some guiding principles and not just following McCain off the cliff.
I think we (meaning conservatives) should be discussing the conservative boni fides of various third parties and their candidates rather than harping to each other about McCain/Romney/Huckabee/Hillary/Obama. And FreeRepublic should be hosting that conversation and inviting all to attend and present their "case for conservatism".
The country survived eight years of Billary and we will survive four or eight years of Hillarbill or Obama _IF_ conservatives use that time to build a strong base in a new/different party, or a Republican party that "got the message" when we voted on principle rather than on politics in 2008. A party, new or changed, whose political philosophy is closer to that of Reagan, as well as the 1994 Republicans under Gingrich.
"Principled" means conservative first, Republican second. That's my opinion, your mileage may vary.
Nice job.
Recovery requires leadership and communication.
Leadership and communication will result in political action but we must act collectively to carry the force required for change.
a great many 3d parties have been attempted over the years; none has gained enough momentum to break the surface of the national consciousness
but I think part of that is simply a lack of ability to assemble a mutually agreeable platform. many of us with Christian roots don’t really want to sign onto the Libertarian philosophy
but I think there are core values that we all adhere to. Central to that is that we prefer the rule of law over tyranny and that we believe that We the People ought best act as the law giver,— the principles of our Constitution as protected by our Bill of Rights being generally agreed as our base philosophy.
Adhereing to the Rule of Law as opposed to tyranny is the essential mark of a civilized people.
Before you take that decision let me request that you ask yourself and then answer this question. Which candidate will benefit America better when appointing Supreme Court Judges? You don't need to respond to me; you only need to respond to yourself.
I am an registered Independent but looking -- maybe the Constitution Party if they gain momentum.
In Arizona I can't vote for McCain or Kyl -- both betrayed us on the border.
FReepers won’t leave the GOP.
The GOP left us.
The RINOs in the GOP have been bad during my forty years as a Republican but worse has always been the cut-and-run surrender monkeys in the Party who always turn tail whenever times get tough. No, I’m a long-term investor and I plan to stay the course. If I must wear a gas mask to vote for McCain, so be it.
The GOP left me when Thompson and Hunter dropped out. Everything after that has been mostly spectator sport to me.
I now consider myself a conservative independent. I will be working hard for conservatives in down-ticket races.
I am supporting local candidates with time and money
and perhaps talent (I will leave it to others to say if I have talent or not). I won’t give money to the RNC or Maine Republican Party. I am sending a check to the local district chair in my home state.
As an aside a major contributor to my church never wrote a check to the church per se. He wrote a check to the church with food pantry as part of the pay to the order of line. I am not leaving the Republican Party-though I am sorely tempted. The country club set is not driving me out. In 1964 and 1974 they left the party.
It is FIGHT BACK time.. and when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Laura Rush Sean are in our corner and we have to stand up against the evil doers who want to take our country away from us
“And who among us would rather have Hillary or Obama in charge of the military while there’s a war on?”
Not me, I will not vote to sabotage the military and all their hard work and resolve. My brother is a Marine combat veteran of some of the toughest fighting in Iraq. I have many friends who have served in the Marines over there. I will not vote to sabotage them.
There is a lot I don’t like about McCain, that’s why I support Huckabee. If McCain is the nominee though I will be there to vote for him and soldier on. I believe this is just one battle of many to come. Sometimes we win and lose in the primary process, but don’t punish the military because you can’t suck it up and battle on.
There comes a time when citizens must assign priorities to here allegiances. This is such a time when everyone must ask themselves what is of greater importance, being a Republican, or being an American. For me the choice is simple. I am an American, now, always, and forever. No political party will move me from there, and I feel no need to align myself with any such party to proclaim myself an American.
America first is always the best policy. Which, for the sake of my country, I will note vote for a GOP liberal like McCain...and will leave the GOP.
I will still be able to vote for the best candidate in November
NO!
I think we were worn out after the Clinton years and assumed it would be like Newt’s revolution in the 90’s. Now we KNOW we cannot let our guard down.
