Why I Support Mitt Romney: Leadership Substance
North Star Writers Group ^ | February 4, 2008 | Herman Cain

Posted on 02/04/2008 6:32:20 AM PST by Dukes Travels

The dynamics of political party connections, the political process itself and public perceptions have once again yielded the top two contenders of each major party in the 2008 presidential race. And once again, the public can only hope that the ultimate winner of the White House will be a candidate with the most leadership substance.

My vote is for Mitt Romney.

History is important, but the future is more important. Making history is nice, but nice can’t make critical decisions. The success of this country in the future will be shaped by the leadership abilities of the next president.

The author of the article is looking for the wrong things and is deluded by ABCOM syndrome. (Anyone but Clinton or McCain)

Romney can’t win the general election. He loses to both Hillary and Obama.

"Romey can't win..."

Liberals believe ...
REPEAT THE LIE, LONG ENOUGH AND LOUD ENOUGH ... AND IT'LL BECOME 'TRUE'.

"Moderate" is the key here, and it's unacceptable.

You would have this piece of garbage "McCain" run the party?

We need a song based on "Next Time ... He'll Think Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood , " about McCain.

Read Mark Levin

So I ask again. Do you really want McCain?

The author of this article has made a decision based on his own observation, research, and opinion. I will not decry him for it. Each is free...and in fact, has the responsibility, to do the same.

When you are down to 3rd and 4th choices in a campaign such as this, there is going to be a lot of divergence. Hunter and Thompson were my 1st and 2nd choices by far.

I am not happy about having to make a choice between what remains...but I have looked at it, measured their words (both old and current), looked at the campaign they are actually running on and made a tough choice...and it happens to be Romney as well. I do not like being put in the position to make that choice...but there it is. I believe he has the best chance to stop McCain and also the best chance (if he does) to win against either Hillary or Obama.

Admittedly, Romney has a huge mountain to climb in order to make that happen...but with what happened in Maine over the weekend, with the overwhelmimng majority here on FR now supporting him (and this is probably the most conservative site on the internet), and with the backing of Hastert, Santorum, Tancedo, and so many others...he does have the best chance.

Romney can’t win the general election. He loses to both Hillary and Obama.

B.S. Romney outclasses, outshines and has the right temperment, experience and values to beat them both. McCain is the one who can't win. The Republican base will not support him. Polls taken today on that question are less than meaningless.

I don’t support McCain for the nomination for two reasons.

1. I fear he will lose in November.

2. I fear he will WIN in November.

Either way, the Republicans (and conservatives) lose, big.

Obviously I don’t want the Democrats to win. And I do understand Romney’s “Johnny come lately” conservatism.

But he might be a better choice than someone who appears to revel in poking conservatives in the eye again and again.

And I think the Republican party will be in even worse shape after four years than McCain.

I really fear for the future. I’m concerned that the country is in for a rough four years no matter what. We all have to elect as many conservatives as possible down the ticket and hope not too much damage is done (and that people get their act together) before 2012.

Sorry to be a gloomy guy. If I’m all wrong on this I’ll be delighted.

And Romney will not stab conservatives in the back?
He donated and supported planned parenthood for cripes sake
He raised taxes, ooops my bad, “fees”
He did nothing to stop single sex marriage
He appointed hard core leftists to judgeships

cmon people...

This is the first time in 28 years I will seriously consider leaving the top of the ticket blank

I know what you mean! But at this stage, I have to judge someone who is now at least trying to please conservatives today as better than someone who has delighted in poking us in the eye for decades. Not much of a choice, I know. I too am considering some "protest" vote at the top of the ticket in November. I have plenty of time to change my mind.

The polls are meaningful because they demonstrate a troubling trend. Over the course of a year, as the voters have become more familiar with Romney, his standing with the electorate has worsened. The percentage of likely voters who say they would definitely vote against him has climbed steadily and is now at 47% according to Ras.

I see little reason for optimism when you have a candidate with that kind of trend line over the course of a full year.

Don't forget Mitt is handsome and wholesome too...

Nice cheer leading, wrong analysis.

This election will be as close as the last two. Mitt alienates just enough of two core groups, the stanch conservatives and the deep south evangelicals, who will sit out just like in 2006, that he won’t have the votes to close the gap.Look at Florida, and look at the polling in the deep south. Look at the how he is having to fight Super Tuesday.

Mitt’s problem is not beating Hillary, but winning what should be slam dunk support for a Republican conservative candidate.

Sad to say but McCain stands a better chance in the general and that is a win win for the Democrats since basically he is one of them with a different initial. Be honest I don't know if he can win it as well.

Thanks guys.
