Are You Willing To Compromise & Surrender What Our Founding Fathers Set Forth For This Republic?
me | February 3, 2003 | callisto

Posted on 02/03/2008 6:34:57 AM PST by callisto

Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them.
- Thomas Jefferson, Declaration of the Causes and Necessities of Taking up Arms, July 6, 1775
Many of us were hoping for a truly Conservative candidate to be our nominee, but Hunter, Tancredo and Thompson made their exits and those who remain are less than substandard by comparison. Some of us are willing to support whomever the Republican nominee may be. I was recently asked if I was willing to compromise my Conservative values and principles to support the nomination of a less than worthy candidate in order to defeat what I think may be the worse destruction leveled on this great nation: the election of Clinton or Obama to the Presidency.

Initially, I understood the question posed but I failed to see the truth behind the question. Fortunately, DoughtyOne, posted a thread asking just how willing we are to compromise those values with a great analogy as to the ramifications of such a compromise. I won’t restate DO’s words as he said them so well himself, but the meaning behind those words have reverberated in my mind since and left me asking myself, “How many of us realize the compromises we are about to make this coming Tuesday?” The more I read and posted on threads this week, the more I realized that many of us are willing to make that compromise without regard to the intent and principles of our Founding Fathers when they created this great nation in which we are fortunate to live.

Our Founding Fathers were eloquent spokesmen on the founding principles of self-government who believed in Liberty, Freedom, Justice and Equality. They believed that Wisdom, Knowledge and Virtue were necessary for the preservation of those rights and liberties. With a stirring language, that reaches the depths of one’s soul, they wrote one of the greatest documents in history which changed the face of this world forever. When they undertook to sign their names to the document they risked their own pursuit of life and happiness to grant us the ability to know and live under the principles they valued most. To denounce the king’s authority was an act of treason, punishable by death, yet 56 determined men picked up quill and ink to sign the Declaration of Independence risking their lives, fortunes, family and all that they held dear.

So I ask each of you, are you willing to give up all that these men gave for so little in return? Because if we refuse to stand up for what is right and principled when given the choice, we will deserve what we receive for accepting what has been handed to us. To many of you I am preaching to the choir, but to others I hope you will read this post and consider the principles on which our nation was founded, and the effects of relinquishing those tenets. Before you go to the polls on Tuesday, consider exactly what is at stake when you cast your vote.

In the words of Samuel Adams, 1781:
Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual - or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.

There is nothing innately wrong with a vanity post...you have done pretty well as a lurker since 2001 if this is your first.

I do believe there should be a proportional relationship between posted threads and posted remarks, and posted remarks should be FAR higher then originated threads, otherwise we would all be screaming to be heard, and none of us would be listening...:)

I’d like to point out that Rudy Guiliani and Mike Bloomberg are also Republicans.

The fact that they have attached a certain label to themselves does not make them less of an enemy to conservatism or to the Republican Party.

I’m probably going to reluctantly vote for Huckabee in the primary, hoping he brings Duncan Hunter on to his team. This is as for as I’m comfortable with going though. I may do a write in but I’m definitely thinking about a third party for 2012. It’s too late this year unless a known Conservative runs as an Independent, I think. Sadly, there is no good choice, is there? Just don’t stay home. They need to know why you aren’t voting for them and at least we can vote for deserving candidates on the local level.

Actually I have lurked since '98 but didn't sign up until '01 (It was just too much one day not to express my opinion)
My stats to date: "You've posted a total of 417 threads and 2,138 replies."
Would you say I have an acceptable proportion of posts vs. replies? I'm sure I made my fair share of posts originally, but I try to consider the cost of the server space.

Also...this may seem a little too far to the right:’) but we may be in for some rough times ahead. I think people need to start thinking about spending less , saving more, and being more self sufficient. America may have to tank some before she can start to heal. Less money coming into the government kitty is an effective form of protest too. Look how they are reacting already. JAT

I agree insults like those usually come from liberals who want to shut the opposition up, you know like the usual name calling, etc

I and my wife will not vote for Mc Cain if he gets the nominee , I will write in another name.

i cannot go against my beliefs It is such a shame that this was going to be my first pres election as I became an American last year and yet we have no one who fits the republican platform.

There is however a silver lining

If one of the dems get in you know they will ruin this country and make it easier for the republicans to gain control of the house and senate plus the presidential seat for the next few years.

they the dems won’t be able to blame the republicans as it is they who are in charge. Now however if McCaion gets in and this country goes to shot then it will be the cionservatives to blame(as usual) it will be republicans to blame as Mc Cain says he is one though his voting record since he lost the election in 2000 proves other wise(maybe because he has been fighting the GOP since his loss)

LOL...I don’t think I am a good person to ask...I had no idea what my stats were, so I had to take a look:

“You’ve posted a total of 53 threads and 13,787 replies...”

I think I am perhaps too far the other way. All I can say is that if one spends too much time posting, how can you read and respond?

I will say that people like SandRat are the exception to the rule of thumb for me. I love all the posts SandRat puts out there, and view them as a service to the rest of us Freepers.

I agree entirely

I am lucky I have just paid my house off not bad for a 39 year old and have saved money for a massive rain storm.

I will not stay at home as this is my first pres election(I became a proud American last year the legal way)
We here in Florida northern florida st augustine have now got the marriage amendment on the ballot finally so that ioin it;s self will get all my family out.

As I pointed out if a dem wins then when the country goes tpo shot it will make it easier for us to regain the house and senate but if McCain gets in then the party is screwed and we may not regain power for a long time

Take care and good luck for the future as I thin we both agree we need all the luck for the future

Why you...you...Non-Lemming! How dare you not toe the party line!

FEEL THE PAIN! VOTE MCCAIN!

Not in this lifetime...I'm with you. I've just had it with RINOs in our party. I'm NOT a party man and never will be again.

Better that this nation is savaged by socialism for four years and rebuilds from ashes rather than cower before party elites who would do the same while telling us they're better than the other guys.

“The primary is almost over and it is time to rally around ONE person. That person will be McCain, for better or worse. Democrats are the enemy, NOT MCCAIN!”

That’s preposterous. If we accept this shortsigthed notion as truth, then we should all stay home on Tuesday, or whenever your primary is held.

McCain and his crowd (and a large portion of the media) are saying that McCain is already the annointed one. But, the votes ain’t been counted, yet.
The primary process is still in play, and now is the time for all of us to examine candidates, examine their positions, and settle on the one that best represents our interests and views. Let’s have a valid primary, casting votes for our choice, not pulling the levers for those we’re told are already determined to be ‘winners’.

Don’t abrogate your responsibility to this grand experiment.

wonder where his stright talk is when it comes to his liberal voting record since losing the 2000 election

as for this comment
Better that this nation is savaged by socialism for four years and rebuilds from ashes rather than cower before party elites who would do the same while telling us they’re better than the other guys.

I said the very same earlier, if the dems win it would be easier to gain ciontrol of both house and the white house if the botter old twisted mangets in the party is ruined for years to come and we will never get power back maybe for two generations

no wonder the media including fox are cheerleading for him

Let the Rats have it? I’m afraid I have to respectfully submit that I see a flaw...possibly fatal...in your logic.

You see, if the Rat candidate is Hillary, there may not BE another chance to change things. Why do I say that?

I understand it may be a ‘tinfoil hat’ argument, but I see how much that woman wants power. What’s to say that she does something to make her power permanent? I’m afraid that if she gets in the White House, there may not be ‘another chance’.

It’s really quite easy: Invent a ‘crisis’, declare an emergency, declare martial law, suspend rights of assembly and free speech due to ‘security concerns’, outlaw private ownership of weapons, send out the jack-booted thugs to round up ‘dissidents’ or anyone seen as an ‘enemy of the state’, and finally suspend the Constitutional term-limits amendment ‘for the duration’.

Voila’...a totalitarian Socialist state, run for life by Great Leader Hillary the First.

And YES...I think she’s quite capable of such an action.

Well said! Those who want to pre-determine who the Republican nominee is are disenfranchising the rest of us. I, personally, am looking forward to exercising my choice and my right to free speech!

Thank you it took years, but I worked hard went back to England when I had too, did my interviews, paid my fees , looked and researched American history for me to understand America a bit better plus I should know the history of the country I settle.

Mayb mR McCain could explain to me and many others like me why we do what we do yet many of the ones here illegally can come here and be rewarded yet they commit and send money to their original country

Truth is, McCain is an enemy of the Republic, fanboy. And everyone who votes for him at any time is likewise and enemy of the Republic.
