Seven good reasons to support Mike Huckabee [be sure to read reason number seven]
The dark and jumbled recesses of my aging feeble brain | January 31, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/31/2008 2:09:25 PM PST by Jim Robinson

My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.

Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!

And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?

McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!

Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.

Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!

And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!

My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).

Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.

Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!

Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!

Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.

Woo hoo!!

Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!

Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.

Long live the Reagan Revolution!

Oh I think you’ve already been shopping for that popcorn LOL.

I agree with you. And there’s going to be a run, so I back your plan to stock up now. Prices are sure to go up.

Relax though, because the conservative model is to prevent pain. The price of popcorn will be rolled back, or we’ll get government rebate checks.

I finally got a chance to come back to this thread. No use me taking that test, since I agree with you on every issue. I am one who will walk on broken glass to elect a good Conservative, but not any RINO.

Jim, I have had a number of conversations with other REAL conservatives and we are ALL in agreement that this is a very viable scenario.

The trick is to make sure that neither McCain nor Romney get enough delegates and for that to happen Huckabee must stay in.

FRed was always either the first or second choice of just about everyone. I think that well over 90% of the GOP would be very happy with him being the nominee and, most importantly, he is a CONSERVATIVE.

This just might work.

Romney isn’t perfect, but he understands the free market and our terrorist threats better than Huckabee could ever dream of.

"Jim, as a conservative Arkansas FReeper who suffered under the Huckster's pro-tax, pro-alien, pro-nanny state programs, pro-pardon for hardened criminals, pro-anything for Huck for 10 long years it pushes me to the verge of depression to see that conservatives have been reduced to selecting which layer at the bottom of the barrell we want to scrape onto our political plate.

I love ya man, but I just can't help my fellow conservatives make the same mistake the Dem's made in 1991 by choosing a slick talker from Hope. Huck is a nice guy to socialize with as I have done on occasion, but you'll regret voting him into office. Don't say I didn't warn you. FReegards - OB1"

Sadly, the deaf are incapable of hearing you. The bass guitar must have drowned out common sense. Wow, I've never considered voting for someone based on appearances at balls or making noise on a guitar. Did hear on the Levine Show that McCain converted to Preacher Huckabee's religion though -- so that could account for Huckabee staying in the race to help McCain out.

I certainly respect your opinion. I'm a FRedhead from the first minute that I heard he might run. But I'm not voting for Huckabee. Nope. Not in the hope that maybe there'll be a brokered convention. Nope, no way. If that man EVER became POTUS, I don't know what I'd do.

Sorry Jim. I don’t see Huckabee putting America’s interest first when it comes to defending this country. He’s weak. If he was weak on criminals in his own home state he’ll be weak on protecting America from dangers abroad. I can’t bring myself to support him.

I'll pass on Huckster. His religion is fake as he fails to live like a Christian.

And what has he done to not live like a Christian? Pointing out that Mormonism and Christianity are not the same after Romney claimed to be Christian?

Jim, Fred doesn't think Huckabee is the one.

THOMPSON: It's an important issue, because I think it demonstrates what we're about here today. I think that Governor Huckabee's campaign manager said it accurately in terms of what they believe. They believe that it is over.

This is a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party and its future. On the one hand, you have the Reagan revolution. You have the Reagan coalition of limited government and strong national security.

On the other hand, you have the direction that Governor Huckabee would take us in. He would be a Christian leader, but he would also bring about liberal economic policies, liberal foreign policies.

THOMPSON: He believes we have an arrogant foreign policy and the tradition of, blame America first.

He believes that Guantanamo should be closed down and those enemy combatants brought here to the United States to find their way into the court system eventually.

He believes in taxpayer-funded programs for illegals, as he did in Arkansas.

He has the endorsement of the National Education Association, and the NEA said it was because of his opposition to vouchers.

He said he would sign a bill that would ban smoking nationwide. So much for federalism. So much for states' rights. So much for individual rights.

That's not the model of the Reagan coalition, that's the model of the Democratic Party.

If you think Huckabee is that bad, how did you survive through 8 years of Clinton?
