Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

Romney is what is needed not someone who has been in Washington for most of his life. Exactly....the media has been using the term "establishment". Fits McCain.

No he won’t. He is 180 degrees opposite McCain. And friendship isn’t enough to endorse someone.

I don’t think Bush would have even won his second term without Cheney on the ticket.

Regardless of how you feel about McCains politics, the personal venom being spewed at him is juvenile and says more about the poster than McCain. The man has served his country with honor, whether you agree with him or not, and he deserves respect. He lost most of my respect regarding his military service when he defended JFnK in the last election. As a military person who served alongside the Swifties for a year, I respect and believe their view point regarding Kerry's actions during the short time in country and traitorous actions after he returned. McCain was one of the recipients of those results and why he felt he had to defend Kerry is beyond me.

McCain is like watching Bernie in Weekend at Bernie’s. How long can the MSM prop him up before he wins the GOP nomination and then gets destroyed by Hillary?

Unfortunately Huckabee is very good in this setting and he takes votes from Romney and makes McCain a winner in the South. Are the southern states WTA? My concern before had been that if Huckabee and McCain together get a majority, that would yield a McCain/Huckabee ticket. But if McCain melts down too badly, Huckabee's delegates might not go for him. For that matter, even some of McCain's own delegates might not go for him.

To me it looked like Arnold was having a little talk with her.
Nancy Reagan is no naif and doesn’t need handlers to protect her image from sitting next to a not very conservative Governor of California; when if not for him there would almost certainly be a very liberal Democrat Governor of California.

McCains clueless on the economy. Yes he is...it is clear he is out of his league in that area. That is why he has to keep name dropping to muddy the waters. Expects most people to know who are these economic experts are...it is laughable.
