An 11-year-old boy from Britain, who was deaf for nearly 10 years, was suddenly cured when a thick piece of cotton popped out of his ear, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Jerome Bartens was diagnosed as deaf in his right ear when he was just two-years-old.

Over the next nine years, he struggled to live a normal life as a young boy but everything changed when he felt a sudden pop in his right ear while playing a game of pool with friends.
He put his finger in his ear and pulled out a tip of a cotton wool bud that had been wedged in his ear since he was a toddler.
"It was just incredible his hearing returned to normal in an instant," Barten's dad said.
"I had always suspected Jerome had stuck something in his ear when he was little and that was causing the problem. But the doctors and hearing specialists said it was wax and he would probably grow out of it."

And THIS is what we can expect from the Hildebeast's plan for "Socialized Medicine"? *shudders*
I’m flashing back the SNL skit “Theodoric, Barber of York” as I envision the state of medical care in the UK.
“”I am amazed they didn’t spot something as obvious as a cotton wool bud.”
Good news for the kid that he can now hear, but bad news for all of Her Majesty’s Kingdom, and any other nation going the route of universal healthcare.
To be fair, he was only half-deaf.
“And THIS is what we can expect from the Hildebeast’s plan for “Socialized Medicine”? *shudders*”
Exactly my first thought! This is quite an indictment of the British health care system.
This is satire, right?
It has to be...
I just read that.
How in the world did these IDIOTIC doctors MISS SEEING that thing stuck in his ear?
GEESH!
Beat me to it. That was my FIRST response to reading this.
My dog once got a piece of a popcycle stick lodged between her teeth. The vet found it, and removed it.
Even my VET for my PET will clean out EAR WAX.
So even if they thought it was “ear wax”, why didn’t they clean it out? You don’t “out grow” ear wax!
This is what happens when you can't afford a good otoscope, an ear syringe, and the time to use them.
My 2nd child has unusually narrow ear canals and persistent problems with accumulation of earwax . . . his ENT man just syringes the ear with plain warm water until he has a clear view of the eardrum. Once when he was a little kid he put some play-doh in his ear, and of course that came right out with the ear wax . . . the ENT (who is a really funny guy, I'm so sorry that he retired) held it up between thumb and forefinger and asked in a mock-solemn tone, "And what, pray tell, is THIS, young man?" "Uh . . . I guess it's play doh." "Well, tell it to stay out of your ears, young man!"
This poor boy . . . what an awful thing to have in your ear for years and years and years (and think of the potential for infection!)
You get what you pay for. With socialized medicine the consumer pays nothing.
NHS= No Hearing Service
Wax? Did they try to wash out the ear? If there was that much wax, it should have been professionally removed.
Here’s another example, in case you missed this:

a great YouTube.
Exactly. Sensationalistic headline in the original article. The kid might have heard only in mono rather than stereo, and he might have had to use his left ear while listening to the telephone, but it's not like he was totally deaf.
Ther upside of socialized medicine?
...Ten month wait list for an abortion...
The idiocy of the doctors notwithstanding....
This is one reason why you do NOT poke q-tips into a child’s ear!
As somebody said, “If you think health care is expensive now, just wait till its free.”
Is that for real?
