Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

Even with Amnesty and Spending, IMHO, Bush is far ahead of these other guys that we are stuck with. He may have liberal stances that anger me greatly but I like him... and I do not like the others at all.

Huckabee is good at one liners. He plays electric guitar. That’s not what I want and he luvs illegals.

Well, I based my “assumption” that they got to know each other on the campaign trail on Duncan Hunter’s own words in his endorsement of Huckabee. Also, without a doubt they get to know one another in terms of how each candidate runs his or her campaign, whether it is with decency or integrity or not.

Also, in my personal experience, I have found brief personal encounters with people whom I have only known about through the media or by reputation to be very telling in allowing me to judge their characters.

Come on DCP..no doubt you know exactly why Hunter went over to the dark side.

It wouldn't have anything to do with Huckabee suggesting (back in DEC.) that Hunter would make a good Sec.of Defense?

But the way things are going, Huckabee might just choose General Wesley Clark..wouldn't that be a hoot!

Who the heck am I going to vote for in November?

It is rare that one actually gets to vote FOR someone.

It is an unpleasant but necessary duty of citizenship to try at least to vote AGAINST those who would do the most harm.

My opinion, FWIW.

Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee

Wow, the world has gone totally insane. Well, only if Hillary kneels before Obama and places his foot on her head.

Un-by-God-believable! That’s it, this country has officially tanked. I regret now ever supporting Hunter for president. What a bonehead.

Not a McCain supporter but that is low

You are right, which is why I apologized in advance for even posting that.

Same with the comment I made about Huckabee being a frumpy Wally Cox looking candidate with a lazy eye.

I am normally the most sensitive person in not wanting to insult people for the way they look.

But with candidates for US President, it has a lot to do with perception. If a man projects strength and confidence, they stand a much better chance of winning.

Most of our Presidents in the TV age have been tall and handsome, because Americans like a tall leader.

Clinton, GHWB, Reagan, (forget Carter), Nixon sort of, Lyndon Johnson (tall), JFK for certain, Ike Eisenhower, Truman (well he's the exception.

A short frumpy candidate will not get as many votes from women.

Do you think as many women would be Ga-Ga over Barack Obama if he were short and frumpy?

What an absolute disappointment.

Duncan I feel let down that you endorsed the third worse Republican candidate.

Shaking my head in amazement and wonder as to why Uncle Hucklebuck.

Why not Edwards or Hillary that makes about as much sense to me.

"...Fred’s out. Hunter’s endorsing Huck. This is going to leave a mark..."

I am just now hearing about this. Please, I'm almost laughing at this point from sheer (terror) and utter perplexity. What in the blankety-blank is going on!

Wait...have we entered the Twilight Zone? I am almost speechless. How could I have been so wrong about these men!

Wow, I must actually be for Hillary and I just don't know it yet.

CALLER: I believe it 100%. And, you know what? The fact that the media doesn’t want to follow Romney is the very reason why I want to follow him! Who cares if they approve?

RUSH: Well, you know, this is one thing the Drive-Bys are not going to learn, they will not learn. They’re going to do everything they can to try to shape your opinion without realizing they are driving you the opposite direction they want you to go. It’s a fascinating question, these people that say that they aren’t going to vote if Huckabee or McCain get the nomination. Now, we haven’t discussed this, because the time hasn’t really been right, but lurking out there is the mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg. I think I mentioned this one time. I play golf at certain places in the Northeast, or I play golf at a place down here where there are a lot of members who summer from the Northeast. And they love the guy.

These are Republicans. “What do you think about Bloomberg?” They see Bloomberg — these guys are all business types — they see Bloomberg and the Bloomberg Network and his 13-billion-dollar wealth, they see somebody that’s cool. “The guy has that much business savvy.” Anyway, he’s lurking out there as a potential third-party candidate. He’s out there doing polls to find out if this person is a Democrat nominee, if this person is the Republican nominee, do I get in? And I’ll guarantee you, if Huckabee is our nominee, he gets in. He’s going to realize that there are a whole lot more Republican votes he might be able to get if Huckabee is the nominee. McCain, I don’t think he’d step on. Then the question becomes, if a guy like Bloomberg gets in, does he hurt Hillary or the Republican more? There’s no consensus on that.

He plays bass guitar. What's wrong with that? Huck is not my top choice but if he were to prevail it would be an easy choice to support him rather than Hillary based on the abortion issue alone.

Who was your first choice?

Is he still in the race?
————————————————————>

Actually there has never been anyone in the race that I support.

Right now it’s a process of elimination based on researching the current candidates’ records.

Based on where we are today, I’d vote for Mitt Romney.

It gets more disturbing each day. Duncan Hunter’s endorsement shocked me, especially with all the urging FReepers had for him and then Hunter endorses Huckabee.

I’ve got a brain cramp!!

Huckabee can't win in Florida. It's not gonna happen (and Huck's team is working for free now). If he can't make a showing in Florida, he's not gonna get much further. I trust the American people. I hope my trust isn't misplaced.

No on Huckabee cuz I want a president with solid family, brains and who is a turnaround artist (Mitt Romney) not a guy who went on a diet and he plays the guitar and unless you're an illegal alien, Huck's not inclusive imo.

Ann Coulter is for Mitt Romney now. She liked Duncan but saw his dismal showings. It’s at www.worldnetdaily.com from last week.

Why on earth would Hunter endorse huckabee?

I understand the concept of opposites attracting eachother, but this is unreal.

What could he have been thinking?

Lesser of evils, no doubt. IMO, Hunter was always more of a social conservative than a fiscal one. Given the choices, there wasn't really anyone that matched his overall views that closely.
