Republican Presidential Candidate Debate #15 Myrtle Beach, SC 01/10/08 - Official Discussion Thread
Watch the Republican presidential primary candidates debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C., live on FOX News Channel and FOXNews.com at 9 p.m. ET.
Like many air-headed voters she showed to be someone who would fit better in the Nancy Delouse wing of the Rat party.
Someone needs to do some research on her and see if she is or might be a weed...err....plant in the focus group.
She sure was negative.
It struck me also that she was speaking from memorized talking points. Maybe a supporter of a certain candidate who would want a 'focus group member' able to counter expected attacks from Sen. Thompson? Just maybe...
......And youre happy about that?.....
No, of course not. But at some point reality must take control.
Fox and the SC RC drew lines and Hunter was on the wrong side. It was not up to me or you who was in the debate
The adage “to the victor go the spoils” applies
People on the RNC payroll will vote for McCain.
“Yep. The right to life for children and adults is a states rights issue. The disability community would like to know the feds would protect them from activist judges and the euthanasia agenda.”
Are you being sarcastic? Florida government officials ordered Teri Schiavo’s death.
“Maybe that is why Hunter has been excluded from the debates: he is very good and makes excellent arguments and would make McCain and Huckabee look bad.”
The Rnc wouldn’t mind if he made Huck look bad. But McCain... He’s one of their boys, and Hunter would take him apart.
Are you saying a Thompson/Romney ticket? Don't think I'd vote for the reverse, but could go for that one. (would prefer Thompson/Hunter, but I digress)
What slimy pit did Huck and McCain crawl out of? Never mind Paul...the space ship dropped him off.
“where I disagree with Fred is his opposition to the Human Life Amendment and the fact that he doesnt seem to have any enthusiasm for the pro-life cause. I get the feeling that it is not really a terribly important issue in his book.”
And what is his position on the Right to Life Act? Did he promote it when he was in the Senate?
Duncan Hunter has introduced it to each new congress for ten years.
Where was Fred?
“Fred is kissy-face with McCain, who should be his rival. I predict that Fred will not at all attack McCain the remainder of the campaign, that Fred will endorse McCain the day after SC, and that Fred will have some role in McCain’s campaign”
Agreed.
My friend (and no, I didn’t get that from McCain - ugh!), it was Ronald Reagan who named George Herbert Walker Bush to be his running mate, and it was Ronald Reagan who trusted him within the highest level of his administration for 8 years, and it was Ronald Reagan who supported him to become the next President.
So we are supposed to pretend that the ticket in 1980 WASN’T Reagan/Bush, courtesy of the Gipper himself, because YOU don’t want ever to see the names Reagan and Bush together?
Now, did that Bush make errors, has this one made errors, but did Reagan also make errors??? YES, to all three.
Now people only talk about the Bushes’ errors.
But I could go down memory lane and name a sizable list of Reagan’s, and really big ones at that.
Duncan Hunter also introduced the Right to Life Amendment to every new congress for the past ten years. It is otherwise known as the Unborn Personhood Act.

Let’s hope! Those are my two favs as well.
C’mon South Carolina!
We were Charter Subscribers to the Weekly Standard until the 2000 campaign when Bill Kristol jumped off the deep-end for McNasty. By the time of the South Carolina primary, we had cancelled and never returned.
Now we have to look to South Carolina to once again save our party. Despite the Weakly S and other awful pundits in Washington.
“Well, lets see who the nut by going back into the Wayback Machine...”
nice job.
That is what I have been seeing, too.
I think Fred has a specific strategy in attacking Huck instead of McDole.
Going into the debate, he presumes he can’t knock the frontrunner out entirely. I think his campaign is presuming McDole captures no more than around 30% of the SC vote...he’s below that now and I think 30 is his max. Even if that wins, it can be spun in to a worryingly low level of support for the party’s supposed leader.
Going after Huckabee made a lot more sense. If he finishes 2nd, ahead of Huck: 1) He’ll get media credit for it, something his campaign needs desperately. 2) He will have dispelled the evangelical argument...that Huck has a lock on a significant GOP base. 3) He could indirectly benefit by peeling off a few McCain voters who liked his conservative attacks on Huck.
If he had chosen a direct confrontation with McCain, he risked McCain still winning SC (likely). Then the press would write that Fred had fallen short of his goal. If he knocks down Huck, he gets mini-giant-slayer coverage.
Give Mitt 4 or 8 years of on-the-job training. Fred gets an effective chief operating officer as VP. Ushers in 16 years of conservative leadership.
For euthanasia: McCain, Huckabee, Rudy and Paul.”
Please give me a link.
And the nation is left to vote for their hand picked spoilers.
Best debate so far by miles and miles. Really impressed by Thompson in particular.
The truth is they all had some good answers, even Ron Paul when he tossed the 9/11 Truthers under the bus....(chuckle)
Of course, the fact he had to do so speaks volumes about who he’s been clinging to up to this point....
Rush has as much as said so over the past several days.
