Episcopal leader defends gay bishops

LONDON - Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori says her church has been unfairly singled out for criticism because it is honest about consecrating gay bishops.

Jefferts Schori told BBC Radio 4's "PM" program that the New York-based church, which is the Anglican body in the U.S., is far from the only Anglican province that has a bishop with a same-sex partner. In 2003, Episcopalians elected the first openly gay bishop, V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, causing an uproar that has pushed the Anglican family toward a split.

"He is certainly not alone in being a gay bishop; he's certainly not alone in being a gay partnered bishop," Jefferts Schori said in an interview broadcast Tuesday. "He is alone in being the only gay partnered bishop who's open about that status."

The 77 million-member Anglican Communion is a global fellowship of churches that trace their roots to the Church of England.

Sounds like the Anglican Church is in the process of rejecting the Ten Commandments and embracing the Ten Suggestions.

Does anyone else think that this position might have configured in the mind of Tony Blair and that is why he converted to Roman Catholic?

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination;

Yea, I mean how dare the people condemn this blashpemous church for its actions, its not like these people we are consecrating are engaging in acts that violate the word of God...... Well not the word of God we decide we will pay attention to this week, if we feel like it... maybe...

she sounds like a little kid caught wrongdoing, “but others (names unrecalled) are doing it so it must be OK, Mom.”

No, it is because if we want PC Secularism, there is a Unitarian church down the street. You are only being crticized by people who were once your membership, and that is the fairest critcism one could expect.

Regards to the "Queen of Canterbury".

She’s probably right, but neither she nor the Archbishop of Cantebury have sense enough to keep their mouths shut.

“Gay partnered bishops”: homosexual bishops who are shacking up. Please dispense with the euphemisms.

“He is certainly not alone in being a gay bishop; he’s certainly not alone in being a gay partnered bishop,” Jefferts Schori said in an interview broadcast Tuesday. “He is alone in being the only gay partnered bishop who’s open about that status.”

We all sin. But the intent is not to ADVOCATE it. Appointing a representative of a church should entail someone who at least attempts to live by the most basic principals and teachings of what is preached. Stating that there are more who are gay makes about as much sense as me saying “Well their are many who commit adultery and pedophilia.” Just like it would be inappropriate to pick a skirt chaser who lives out his fantasy of getting laid as much as possible, so is it inappropriate to pick someone living a gay “lifestyle.”

It is a choice! This man chose to live with another man and be gay. Bottom line, the Episcopal church is embracing people who choose to live out deviant sexual, morally objectionable, and Christian incompatible behavior. Bestowing people like this with titles and allowing them to teach others about the very values they choose to not uphold is simply put, stupid.

What next? Openly pedophile bishops? Openly adulterous bishops? Unrepentant theif bishops? Where does one draw the line?

They claim to be teaching and promoting the Bible. The Bible says the sexual acts they engage in are sinful. It is like hiring a Geography teacher who thinks the earth is flat and the sun circles it; IT MAKES NO SENSE.

Dump the wife and kids and move in with your lover. Great behavior for an Episcopal Bishop

I suppose the lesson is that man has feet of clay and is in constant struggle against sin. We are all sinners, much to our personal shame. Some do better than others in refusing temptation. Admitting one’s sin is an important towards redemption. But flaunting one’s sin? Embracing one’s sin and laying open claim to it for the world to see? Trying to make one’s sin acceptable? Cannot that Bishop see the difference?

How about, USE the wife and kids to further you climb up the hierarchy, then dump them when they are no longer useful? That’s what passes for honesty in the Episcopal Church.

Well, it certainly influenced my change to the Catholic church, and I suspect that Tony might have realized the Anglican church was in the process of dying off.

"IT MAKES NO SENSE"

Yet 2000 years ago the Apostle Paul told us it was going to happen.

"Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori says her church has been unfairly singled out for criticism because it is honest about consecrating gay bishops."

I may be wrong, but I'd almost be willing to bet that Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori would say that it was wrong for some bishops in the Roman Catholic church to have had sex with underage boys.

I wonder, though, if she would have given the Roman Catholic bishops a pass if they had been honest about what they were doing.
