We are friends w/both India and Pak which all the credit should go to President Bush. Old World Countries need to believe the word of our leaders. That was not the case w/the Clinton Chinese Mafia and we paid the price.

Harpy clinton has no credibility in Pak or India. Let alone the rest of that region. She would be a disaster for that area. Nobody would trust a word that she said.

Pray for W and Our Victorious Troops

Whatever his faults, which were legion, I hope we’re doing something to protect Musharraf now. If he is killed, things will really be out of control. Also, he’s no longer in charge of the army, so hopefully whoever is in charge will sruvive and stay on the right side.

This attack took place just hours after her political rival Nawaz Sharif was shot at during his campaign rally by supposedly rival supporters of President Pervez Musharraf, killing four of Sharif’s supporters. Last time a high profiled political leader was killed in those regions(Ahmed Shah Masoud), 9/11 happened a few days later. Lets hope history does not repeat itself.

It also becomes public information that AQ is sufficiently trained and organized to perform coordinated attacks with less than one week to three month’s planning efforts in a multinational theater. 9/11 in the mind of many was a 1-4 year dedicated effort. The 18Oct07 and 27Dec07 assassination attempts on Bhutto telegraphs a more organized intelligence and military force at work.

Can someone please provide me with a “Pakistan-101 for dummies”?

All you need to know is this:

Before Pakistan was created, India was on the path to self destruction, due to the presence of islam. Creating Pakistan was the only way to save itself.

Pakistan was created out of the western India, where the "militant" muslims were concentrated.
More than 12 million(!) Muslims and Hindus were exchanged between India and Pakistan. Unfortunately, although virtually all non-muslims left "pakistan" for India, many muslims remained in India, but not enough to make a basket case out of it.

As for Pakistan itself, it is demonstrably no different than any of the other muslim basket cases in the middle east with one crucial difference: it has nukes (the result of the technological level in India when pakistan was created).
There is not a single "officially muslim" country (as opposed to a secular one like Turkey) in the universe which is not either totalitarian or totally chaotic...

My money is on Pervez Musharraf as the man who called for this assassination.

In any case, this is sad, disturbing and scary.

Nawaz Sharif party is claiming that supporters of President Pervez Musharraf were behind the attack on Sharif's party hours earlier, killing four of Sharif’s supporters.

Based on the news coming out, I think you might be correct.

GW in Crawford gave a 1:19 speech. Very short and at the end he just rushed off screen without taking any questions.

Blamed AQ/Taliban for the attack.

However early reports have rioters burning the homes of Pakistani government workers in Karachi which is the home of Bhutto. Her loyalists are blaming Mushie’s government for this attack.

What a mess...

Before you throw out reckless charges, think about what you say. That is nonsense w/o proof.

Highly unlikely he could find a suicide killer. AQ is the most likely suspect by a wide margin.

However.... they will have nukes now, too.

?????????????

India had nukes decades before Pakistan...

What is your point, exactly?

Earlier that month, two militant warlords based in Pakistan’s lawless northwestern areas, near the border with Afghanistan, had threatened to kill her on her return.

One was Baitullah Mehsud, a top commander fighting the Pakistani army in the tribal region of South Waziristan. He has close ties to al Qaeda and the Afghan Taleban.

The other was Haji Omar, the “amir” or leader of the Pakistani Taleban, who is also from South Waziristan and fought against the Soviets with the Mujahideen in Afghanistan.

After that attack Ms Bhutto revealed that she had received a letter signed by a person who claimed to be a friend of al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden threatening to slaughter her like a goat.
