If there was armed protection, apparently not enough. And the Pakistan government will bear the brunt of that anger.

Yah. Well on Fox and Friends this morning an analyst was basically asked how much control Musharraf has over Pakistan, and the answer was that Musharraf has good control over the military, but not much control over the "streets." From what I have seen I would concur.

Let's face it. How many assasination attempts has Musharraf himself narrowly dodged? Three? Four?

“it has already been announced that Musharaff was going on the air, at an announced and scheduled time, to make a national announcement.”

Good to hear. Thanks.

It was reported in the news that Musharaff was sitting quietly at the bedside of Bhutto (I suppose after she died). And also, it has already been announced that Musharaff was going on the air, at an announced and scheduled time, to make a national announcement.

Not 100% corrwect --- N. Sharif, another opposition candidate, is the one who went to rawalpindi hospital to sit with Bhutto's body. Musharraf called an emergency meeting of his cabinet and has been with them all day.

Can’t say I’m surprised.

What a brave lady.

I think you are mixing up two different people. Nawaz Sharif is a former prime minister and opposition figure. According to the reports I have read it was him, not Musharaff, at the hospital.

Yep. Mushariff can pretty much do the “martial law” thing on a whim at this point.

Fox showed Hillary! speaking about Bhutto, her dear friend for over12 years. She sends condolences to Bhutto's two children. Bhutto has three children. You'd think a DEAR FRIEND would know that. Heads will roll over that mis statement.

Well, thanks, but by a “fluke”, I happened to be listening to Sky News (on the Internet), when the assassination happened and listened throughout the subsequent events and to the announcement of Bhutto’s death. And I’ve still got it going now.

The peculiar thing is that I never listen to this news channel and I just happened to be on it, at this particular time. Kinda weird...

This was a well organized attack that had AQ written all over it. There was no way of stopping something like this in the Turd World.

Those robes can hide weapons very easily. Once again this underlines the importance of freeing Iraq/Trashcanistan and the training grounds they represented. Imagine if Saddamn was still in power.

You said — “I think you are mixing up two different people. Nawaz Sharif is a former prime minister and opposition figure. According to the reports I have read it was him, not Musharaff, at the hospital.”

I know the difference between the two people you mention, but I thought I did hear that on the news (Sky News). Now, I admit I could have heard the names wrongly, and thus I may have heard the other name, instead. But, I thought I did hear Musharaff (but their accents are somewhat strange to my ears and I have to strain to hear these things right). That’s all I can claim right now... :-)

Star Traveler

P.S. — But, I did also hear, at the same time, that Musharaff was also going on national TV to make an announcement (at a pre-announced and scheduled time).

OK, Having the advantage of rapidly evolving history, we now know it was in fact AQ. This brings to mind another set of thoughts to myself.

Obviously AQ learned nothing from their great Iraq adventure in which they were responsible for turning the Iraqi’s against them.

Had AQ kept their mouths shut about the murder of Bhutto this morning the anticipated Civil War would have been to their benefit. Shot themselves in the foot so to speak by boasting of their triumph. As it is they have declared themselves the responsible party, and if that information is appropriately dessiminated throughout the populace, as a FOREIGN entity they will be defeated by their own blustering once again.

Musharraf has to but point the finger now thanks to AQ’s boasting, and can very possibly retain power. NO, he’s no friend of the West, but we do know him and have made some progress with him. Is there another potential leader in Pakistan we could do the same?

Civil unrest is inevitable, but now with AQ’s gloating acceptance of the responsibility for this morning’s murder, they have gifted the West with knowledge they learned nothing from their Iraq experience, and there isn’t a new AQ we need time to learn all over again.
