..But John Bailey, then the director of Arkansass state police, tells NEWSWEEK that Governor Huckabees chief of staff and personal lawyer both leaned on him to write a letter officially denying the local prosecutors request. Bailey, a career officer who had been appointed chief by Huckabees Democratic predecessor, said he viewed the lawyers intervention as improper and terminated the conversation. Seven months later, he was called into Huckabees office and fired. Ive lost confidence in your ability to do your job, Bailey says Huckabee told him. One reason Huckabee cited was I couldnt get you to help me with my son when I had that problem, according to Bailey. Without question, [Huckabee] was making a conscious attempt to keep the state police from investigating his son, says I. C. Smith, the former FBI chief in Little Rock, who worked closely with Bailey and called him a courageous and very solid professional

I can imagine the conversation, "Dad today we found a dog with a minor skin condition, normally treated with a topical ointment, but we didn't have any ointment, so we hung it, cut it's throat and threw rocks at it until it was dead." "Good for you son, and don't worry about the cops, they work for daddy."
How old was his son when he did this? And where is he now?
if a dog needed to be euthanised I can think of a less sick an perverted way of doing it....
..this was a horrible act that required the Michael Vick solution.
I wonder how Huckster will respond to this one. Probably just say the guy is a disgruntled Clinton Machine left over that he canned.
This happened about eight months ago. The “child” in question is 24 years old, IIRC.
Never mind, I read the original article. He was 17 and a boy scout camp counselor at the time and place. Not good.
Nope I think this happened when the son was 17.
It happened when the son was 17 and working at a camp. The incident 8 months ago was when the same son was arrested for carrying a gun onto an aircraft.
Romney’s 5 kids are all model citizens but you won’t see him get much credit for it here.
David Huckabee was 17 years old when he tortured the dog to death. Earlier this year he was arrested for carrying a loaded glock through airport security. A candid photo of the eldest Huckabee son...looks like he ate Billy Carter and Roger Clinton:
That kid reminds me of Chris Farley. I don’t want to say killing mangy stray dogs is typical redneck behavior, but the yokels I knew back in the day used to feed them Anti-freeze soaked steaks.
If true, that’s appalling. Then to defend such behavior by saying it’s a mercy killing....I’m at a loss for words. I’m hoping that maybe the story may be exaggerated, though, I find it hard to defend cruelty to any animal.
“Either way, you’d think a 17-year old would know NOT to torture ANY animal, mange or not. There are vastly more humane ways to put an animal down.”
One would hope that a child at any age would not be inclined to torture an animal. If a child of any age does something in this vein it is a big alert to major problems that lie within.
I would not turn my head to such an action of any age.
Having said that ..the cover up and cover of his son is very disturbing to me.
I hope this isnât true but in the US, you can lie, steel, deceive, slander, cheat and manipulate but hurt a dog and your toast.
You are mistaken. The son was 17. There is a big thread on this from last night with posts of the articles.
I was most intrigued that he was said to be an Eagle scout and then said that was a clerical error. That sent my flags up {as the wife of an Eagle, Order of Arrow and member of Brotherhood of Scouts and grandmother of a boy working to be an Eagle}
Do you know the story behind that picture?
The animal torture seems like the classic behavior of an abused child turned psychopath and the gun incident, after his fater was running for president, seems like a (conscious or not) attempt to get even by embarrassing the father. You don’t just forget you have a loaded gun in your suitcase.
It’s OK, it was only Mitt Romney’s dog...
Hey, Arkansas! How’s the AIDS-tainted blood case coming along?
