STAT! is a U.S. campaign to curb law enforcement's use and abuse of Tasers and equip local organizers with tools to take action in their own communities. This website serves as a clearinghouse for individuals and communities concerned about Tasers and Taser International and the danger they pose to our safety and our human rights
Well said!
The ex-cops here can say what they like: citizens stopped for a traffic violation have a right to more dignity than the police are according them.
He doesn’t want to sign a ticket, so it’s “Turn around and put your hands behind your back?”
Seems like it’s getting to the point that a failure to render instantaneous, craven obedience gets you punished by the cops. That’s not the way I want things to be.
I want the cops to be able to protect themselves from danerous people, but at the same time they should give ordinary citizens their dignity.
One must resist orders given by the Officer, defy his efforts to control his scene, and be show that you are not willing to co-operate with verbal commands before your tasered.
Yes Oh Mighty One. We will follow your commands..... yeah-RIGHT!
You talk as if we "little people" are sheep.
Other than he was sleeping and not reading this one fits the bill
That post 49 was highly edited I found the rest of the story and the lady was a Jerk but still taser was not the answer and the officer had his video to back up her unrulely behavior!

Could you expand? Are you in fear for your life? Of course, in that case you would use your service weapon. Are you afraid the perp would escape? What exactly is the reason to use a taser? And have you been ‘tazed’ to know what its effects are?
You may not be illiterate, but your sarcasm could use some work. It’s supposed to be funny, or at least ironic.
The example the fellow gave holds: there are instances where people are minding their own business and something happens. Break into my house w/ a no knock (by mistake) and I may resist and get tazed. It’s a realistic scenario.
What’s more, the point on escalating to a taser is brought out by the loudmouth who was tased for being obnoxious at at political speech (by 2 females, I believe) and killing a detained person at an airport, captured on film. The man was kept in detention for 8 hours, got unruly. The cops (again, I believe, females) tazed him a few times and he died.
Duh? Let me get you up to speed.
The problem is the overuse of tasers not their effectiveness as a replacement for more harmful alternatives.
About 50
This seems to me a strange question. Cops cover their faces when necessary to conceal their identities from the criminals they will be arresting and prevent reprisals. In the event that a police officer does something illegal or uses excessive force, it is not difficult to subpoena the identity of that police officer for legal action. A protester, on the other hand, cannot be as readily identified. What department do you go to? Who has a list of names? The answer is none and no-one.
Bingo! Perfect example of why Officer's carry tasers! Its for defiant or hostile people that do not respond to verbal commands and the use of force is escalated. When the people are given a verbal command and the person by word or deed respond with your "yeah RIGHT!",
I wouldn't recommend trying that philosophy if you are part of a scene an Officer is trying to control. The experience would be a little different than being a cyber tough-guy on an internet forum. I would like to see everyone co-operate and get through through the scene without incident.
so because of a few bad apples on the police force, we should get rid of a non-lethal weapon that could possibly save the lives of hundreds of people?
THat doesn’t seem like a very worthwhile endeavor. If we got rid of cars just think how many people we could save...way more than hundreds. If we confiscated everyone’s kids and raised them in government run child centers, we could ensure that all would have equal access to resources while growing up and no one would develop hatred towards others. Crime would end and so would wars.
Then we could get rid of cops.
People who grew up with some guys that eventually became cops. Knowing what a bunch of delinquent jacka$$es they were, these people then start to wonder if all cops are like these jerks.
Good morning. Gladly. Lets break it down.
Are you in fear for your life? Of course, in that case you would use your service weapon.
Pretty much amswered that yourself if it's a situation where death or serious bodily injury is imminent. Of course there could be situations where the firearm may not be an option and other deadly force alternatives may need to be utilized.
Are you afraid the perp would escape?
Not necessarily. Not that we want perps to get away but if it's a matter where the "perp" has an obvious tactical advantage or mulitple perps then maybe it's best to back off and pick a different battle. That can be hard to do when one's mindset is to catch the bad guy. I've learned some hard lessons over the years...LOL. Taser isn't a good choice when alone with more than one suspect.
What exactly is the reason to use a taser?
I can only speak to the policies that are part of my employment. In my case taser use is a use of force option as a compliance technique for actively resistant "perps." Does that mean the taser has to be used in every situation a active resistant situation is encountered? No. It is an option that can be considered depending on the situation at hand. If you want me to expand on active resistant just say so. I have had many situations immediately deescalate just by holding the taser at my side. I've had situations where I fully expected the taser to do it's job and nothing happened. Go figure.
And have you been tazed to know what its effects are?
Yes in training. In my case it was a big cramp that hurt like a sunofabitch. The fully cycle was five seconds with a probe in my pec and another in my thigh. I dropped like a sack of bricks. I've also been pepper sprayed and hit with tear gas. I'll take the five seconds of pain any day since once the taser is turned off or cycled completely, the effects are immediately gone. Who would have thought 2 miliamps could be so effective?
Heres an interesting article if interested http://www.officer.com/web/online/Technology/Why-TASERs-Dont-Work/20$38245
