That's prominent movie critic Michael Medved on the new film "Redacted." Lest anyone think that Bill O'Reilly's recent outrage over the film is an overreaction, Medved tells Bill, "It's worse than you think."
Johnny Dollar's Place has the must-hear audio.
The following is a partial transcript:
MEDVED: ... I am actually one of the few people in the country who has seen the new movie. It is called "Redacted" ... And let me just tell you, before I go to actually reviewing it: It could be the worst movie I've ever seen. I mean, the out and out worst, most disgusting, most hateful, most incompetent, most revolting, most loathsome, most reprehensible cinematic work I have ever encountered. This is having reviewing movies for more than 25 years. [It] covers a lot of disgusting ground, but none more disgusting than 'Redacted,' which portrays the Marine Corps, one of the finest organizations ever assembled by human beings, portrays the U.S. Marine Corps, as corrupt, vicious, racist killers and rapists ... (snip) ...
It portrays the members of our Marine Corps in the most disgusting way imaginable. They hang out in barracks, drunk or stoned, with Confederate flags all over the place. And the head Marine, who is the leading rapist and murderer, is a big fat guy, I mean, hugely out of shape, right - just the typical Marine (sarcastic) - Marines tend not to look like that - big fat guy, overhanging belly, cigar-chomping, loud-mouthed, sort of fair-complexion. His name is Rush. Nothing in movies is an accident. They're clearly trying to indict and smear Rush Limbaugh by saying that secretly he wants to rape and abuse 14-year old girls and murder them and then burn their bodies ... (snip) ...
The film is atrociously acted. It's incredibly badly done ... (snip) ...
Look, I never say this. I don't believe in boycotts. I don't. But I actually think Bill O'Reilly, I know has been going on about this movie even though he hasn't seen it. O.K. I've now seen it. Bill, Bill - hey. It's worse than you think.
This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars as far as I'm concerned. It's very much Rated R. I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film. I have seen a lot of unspeakable garbage in years and years of reviewing movies. Nothing quite like this. It is a slander on the United States of America. It is a slander on the Marine Corps. It is a slander on our troops. Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, paid for this entirely. Now he elsewhere has given money to support the troops. I know he has. He ought to be ashamed. Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed. I will never see a Brian De Palma film in the same way again. This is a veteran Hollywood director. What is he trying to do with this kind of thing? Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will! Because it portrays the United States troops in Iraq as sick, murderous, deviant losers.
Ugh. Do yourself a favor. Avoid De Palma and Cuban's piece of filth and trash. This Thanksgiving, go see "Bella." It's a nice, sweet film, and it's great.
Can I just say here that chick flicks give me the hives.
My wife and I go to see them and I spend two hours wincing at the flights of fantasy.
My wife doesn’t like science fiction, but if it’s make believe about two people falling in love, it’s a must see.
I enjoy some of them. I don’t like being dragged to a show to see men depicted treated women badly, so women can bond over it.
I’ll be honest, I can’t remember blow out right now. I’ve probably seen it but it sure doesn’t come to mind.
Well, one of the folks the other day said these will be hot properties overseas. That sure sucks if true.
It was also produced in 3D. That can really enhance the movie experience if done right. Perhaps that’s part of the reason why he liked it.
I don’t expect this movie to attract women as much as young men.
Was it good? I was afraid they were going to drag us through a lot of garbage to get to a half-way decent ending.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
As I said, I support not seeing this movie. I support people encouraging others not to see it. The word “boycott” is dumb, though. It shows us as fanatics, and serves to encourage others to see this “censored” movie.
Just don’t see it. And tell your friends not to waste their money. Don’t “boycott” it, and don’t encourage a “boycott.”
bttt

I would say cute. I took my kids and nothing in it caused me concern of what they were seeing. It is wholesome family fun. I found it amazing that they talked about St. Nick!!! Yes they actually said Saint!!! lol. It will not win an oscar but it is an easy two hours that is not political, sexual, or even full of cuss words.
“Blowout” starred a young John Travolta who’s character was a movie audio guy who inadvertently recorded evidence of a murder. Another “had Hitchcock been savy to high tech” production.
If you want to see a great remake smartly incorporating modern technology you won’t go wrong with “Casino Royall”. The new Bond actor is closer to Fleming’s character than nearly all the others.
I was just reading reviews for “Redacted” over at IMDB.com and it has offended nearly everyone no matter what their political persuasion. Methinks Mr. DePalma has just discovered retirement.
No one is saying that all of our troops and Marines are angels. The thing is, the US tries, convicts, and imprisons most of those men who commit these crimes. And despite what the more hysterical lefties may say, the vast majority of our armed forces do not do this sort of thing. Where are the movies about the medal of honor winners, the heroic stories....surely there has to be some?
I was a kid in the 70’s. I always got the impression, through the mass media and my school teachers (a Catholic school, no less) that Vietnam Vets were a bunch of drug-addled losers, crippled from Agent Orange, who wantonly killed every “gook” they layed eyes on. If they weren’t magical minorities who got injured or killed for a country that hated them. Lucky for me I always look for the other side of the story, and I know that by and large the Nam guys are heroes. Now I scan see first hand what the current troops have to deal with from a hostile left-wing media. It’s sad, really.
Pigeon droppings should be aimed at their heads..... if only we could train the pigeons to cooperate!
Not to mention, what's the point of boycotting a film that nobody's watching anyway?
It wouldn’t have helped you as Hollywood changed several aspects of the story to such a degree that it’s only got about 50% in common with the epic poem.

I didn’t even notice to be honest.
Oh, Ben Affecks in it?
They are using circular polarization which means the image doesn’t collapse no matter where you look on the screen. The glasses were big enough at”Meet the Robinsons” to fit ove my own glasses so I had a very good 3d experience with them!
A lot of conservative themed books do huge business but other than the “Coulter” type pundit books, won’t ever appear on the NY Times book list!
