Iran hostage crisis, in U.S. history, events following the seizure of the American embassy in Tehran by Iranian students on Nov. 4, 1979. The overthrow of Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlevi of Iran by an Islamic revolutionary government earlier in the year had led to a steady deterioration in Iran-U.S. relations. In response to the exiled shah's admission (Sept., 1979) to the United States for medical treatment, a crowd of about 500 seized the embassy. Of the approximately 90 people inside the embassy, 52 remained in captivity until the end of the crisis.
Since today is November 4, the anniversary of this crisis, let’s BOMB IRAN! It would’ve been the perfect day to do so.
P.S. 28 years later and Ahmadinejad STILL looks like an evil little monkey!
When you consider the nature of the opposition in both regimes there is only one conclusion: You have to behave humanely in order to deserve “human rights”.
...oh yeah, to illustrate the agenda in the public school system these days, I had never even HEARD of the Iranian hostage crisis until I watched the movie Miracle where it was mentioned. The leftists don’t want us to know the failures of their incompetent presidents. After all, the 1979 hostage crisis was probably Bush’ fault! /s
My thoughts exactly
Weakness more like islamist complicity.
It gets really scary when you start remembering things from about 50 years ago. Must be Alzheimer’s.
Just watched a show last night about the Israeli rescue mission at Entebbe which happened not too long before our own hostage crisis. They were amazingly clever about their attack, even though things didn’t go exactly according to plan, and they only lost one hostage. I’m not sure how much Jimmah was involved in the planning, but maybe he should have asked the Israelis for help.
Ive been trying not to think about it... :)
I always count back from the rescue attempt, so it is always 27 for me now!
But, you are correct, 28 years
I am still not over it
remember, though, the Shah left Iran months before the Nov 4 takeover!
I would bomb them any day, *uck them.
“I hit a 9 when I shoulda hit an 8...”
I did that today too, and put the ball in the water.
;^)
And he was rewarded with the frickin’ “peace” prize.
You couldn’t make this stuff up.
Let’s not forget that they were released on Reagan’s inauguration day in 1981. The Iranians were afraid Reagan would annihilate them.
Subsequently, they were further emboldened when the Hizbollah suicide bomber killed 281 Marines in Lebanon and the US (under Pres. Reagan) pulled the rest of its troops out of Lebanon.
I agree, allowing the Shah to fall and for Iran to fall into the hands of the mullahs was the seminal event in our sad US foreign policy in the Middle East.
Oh, but, hey, the White House tennis court schedule was a thing of beauty.
Yeah, I remember- he came over to this country and almost immediately died of cancer- un-huh, yeah, right. Funny, so did Jack Ruby, after he took Lee Harvey Oswald.
Yes, lots of celebrities, I guess. Legend has it Willie Nelson smoked pot on the roof of the White House. Don’t know if that is true, but it seems possible.
I know. But you have a great website.
thank you! :)
He actually came here and did well for a while. He didn’t die here, Carter booted him out to Panama first, then to Egypt. Sadat was targeted for asassination because of his treaty with Israel and his support for the Shah.
