EAST HANOVER — The Christian N. Peter Business Park was evacuated Wednesday evening. The complex, which houses a FedEx warehouse, is on Melanie Lane. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is on the scene but would provide no details.
East Hanover police said the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office would be issuing a joint press release about the evacuation later tonight or Thursday. No further details were immediately available.

Bomb Scare: Suspicious Package At eBay Headquarters, 200 Evacuated

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Employees at the Campbell eBay campus have been evacuated after someone discovered a suspicious package Wednesday morning. According to San Jose police, several people were evacuated from part of the eBay headquarters campus on Hamilton Avenue. Some streets near the intersection of Bascom Avenue and Hamilton have been blocked off, according to reports.
Police say a suspicious package was found on the ground floor on the east side of the eBay campus. It is unclear what the package is at this time. Approximately 230 employees were ordered out of the building. The eBay headquarters is located in a business complex and is surrounded by a residential neighborhood. Evacuated employees were told that they could go home or continue working in another part of the campus.
The San Jose Police Department's bomb squad is on the scene. Further developments as they become available. NBC Local 11 has a slide show here. This report comes nearly a year after someone set off a pipe bomb at an EBay office in North San Jose. No one was injured in the Halloween night blast.

“Sweden: Mailing Company Refuses To Deliver Muslim Cartoon”
BLOG ENTRY SNIPPET: “News from the Local reports that a Swedish mailing company has refused to distribute a political newspaper called SD-Kurien, because it features an “offensivie” cartoon of Islam’s prophet Mohammed. The newspaper is the publicity organ of the far-right Sweden Democrats, who already are involved in an anti-immigration campaign.
The current issue of SD-Kurien features a cartoon by artist Lars Vilks, depicting Mohammed as a dog. The cartoon is one of a series that Vilks created, which drew adverse publicity when one of these was reproduced in Swedish local newspaper Nerikes Allehanda on August 18. Vilks has received death threats for his drawings. An art gallery refused to display the series, for fear of attacks.
The company which is refusing to distribute the SD-Kurien newspaper is Posten, Sweden’s largest direct marketing company. Their decision is not apparently based on morality, but upon fear of violent reprisals from fundamentalist Muslims.
Per Ljungberg, a spokesman for Posten, said: “We want to protect the safety of our mail carriers. This illustration has provoked reactions that have led to death threats.”
Today, another direct marketing company, Svensk Direktreklam, has announced that it too is refusing to distribute the SD-Kurien newspaper containing the Mohammed “dog” cartoon.
Jimmie Åkesson, leader of the Sweden Democrat party, issued a statement which said: “For both Posten and its main competitor to refuse to deliver information from a particular political party is a serious threat to free expression.”
Meanwhile, Lars Vilks has decided to make the most of his death threats by working on a musical show based upon his Mohammed/dog cartoons. Echoing another stage musical called “Cats”, Vilks has given a working title to the project - “Dogs”.”

Rights group challenges U.S. over visa refusal for Muslim scholar

NEW YORK — A leading U.S. civil liberties group mounted a legal challenge against the U.S. government on Wednesday over its refusal to grant a visa to a leading South African Muslim academic.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed the case in Boston challenging the Departments of State and Homeland Security, who refused scholar Adam Habib a visa accusing him of engaging in terrorist activities. "The government failed to explain the basis for its accusation, let alone provide any evidence to prove it," the group said in a statement. "The ACLU, in today's legal complaint, is now demanding that the government substantiate its ban on Habib or grant him a visa."
Melissa Goodman, one of the union's attorneys accused the U.S. government of stifling political debate and maligning Habib's reputation "without giving one shred of evidence to support its claims." "It appears that professor Habib is being excluded not because of his actions but because of his political views and associations," she said. The legal challenge amends a previous lawsuit filed in September and charges that the government's refusal to grant a visa to Habib amounts to censorship and breaches the constitutional right to free speech.
Habib is a political scientist who serves as the deputy vice-chancellor of research, innovation and advancement at the University of Johannesburg. He is known to be a vocal critic of the war in Iraq and the U.S. "war on terror," who has appealed for governments to respect human rights and the rule of law in measures to respond to the threat of terrorism.
The U.S. government revoked his visa in October 2006 without explanation, according to the civil liberties union. "As someone who studies democracies around the world, it is deeply upsetting that the U.S. government refuses to allow me to cross its borders because of my political views," Habib said in the statement. "While I have criticized U.S. foreign policy as a political commentator, it is utterly absurd that anyone would associate me with terrorism," said Habib.
The civil liberties union said Habib's exclusion was part of a larger pattern of foreign scholars, human rights activists, and writers being barred from the United States because of their criticism of U.S. policy. Last year the union filed a similar suit to challenge the U.S. government's refusal to grant a visa to Swiss-based Muslim academic Tariq Ramadan. A controversial intellectual, Ramadan is the grandson of Hassan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist political and social movement founded in Egypt in the 1920s.

MONTREAL -- While all eyes were on the new Airbus A380, two Sun Media journalists slipped easily in to a restricted area at NAV Canada near Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport yesterday. The pair, driving their own car, slipped unnoticed into the restricted area at by following behind an airport vehicle.
The barrier the reporters passed through was surveyed by two cameras but remained open for more than 10 seconds, admitting as many vehicles as were lined up. Once parked, the journalists passed through the multiple doors with a tray of coffee cups in their hands and ID cards from Grand Prix du Canada 2001 strung around their necks.
Bent over their computers, about 40 controllers responsible for directing air traffic over Quebec, part of Ontario, Nunavut and the U.S., paid no attention to the intruders. At no time, during the 10 minutes the journalists were in the restricted area, did anyone question their presence or ask for IDs.
An anonymous call to Sun Media prompted the journalists to test security at the control centre. The caller expressed employees concerns over security since NAV Canada decided, in the spring of 2007, to do without security guards during the day. The access control is carried out by staff in Ottawa -- 180 km away. Ottawa is responsible for surveillance of access to the restricted area at the Montreal NAV Canada centre. According to the same source, pizza delivery men have been caught twice with their large pizza delivery bags inside the building.

Troops Detain Eight Suspects, Discover Weapons in Iraq

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14, 2007 – Iraqi and coalition forces detained eight suspects, including an alleged extremist leader, and uncovered a weapons cache days, military officials said.
Iraqi soldiers with 9th Iraqi Army Division and U.S. Special Forces advisors captured an alleged extremist leader yesterday during operations in Taji. The suspect, responsible for murdering at least 10 Iraqi civilians, is reported to control several extremist cells, military officials said. He allegedly emplaced multiple improvised explosive devices along a major U.S. military supply route and carried out an IED attack Oct. 4 against a coalition convoy near Baghdad.
In Taji on Nov. 12, Iraqi special operations forces and U.S. Special Forces soldiers detained two alleged al Qaeda in Iraq leaders. The extremist leaders and their networks are responsible for numerous IED, mortar, small-arms and car-bomb attacks that have killed several U.S. soldiers, military officials said.
Iraqi security forces and U.S. Special Forces soldiers detained four suspected members of a criminal gang during a Nov. 12 raid in the Sadiyah area of southern Baghdad. The alleged gang members are believed to be responsible for a wide range of criminal activities, including kidnapping and murder. Troops detained one additional person for questioning.
Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers found a weapons cache Nov. 12 during operations in Baghdad’s Doura area. Troops with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, operating in southern Baghdad and attached to 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, found the cache hidden in an abandoned building. The cache contained more than 100 rounds of rifle ammunition, an old rocket-propelled-grenade launcher, an assault rifle bolt and bolt carrier, and an 82 mm mortar round. Personnel from an explosive ordnance disposal team recovered the weapons.

LAPD scraps Muslim mapping program
The LAPD today abruptly scrapped its controversial plan to create a mapping program for the city's Muslim community, saying instead it would focus on a "community outreach" strategy more palatable to local civil rights activists.

Palestinian National and Former Colombian Detective Plead Guilty to
Conspiring to Support the FARC And Alien Smuggling
Seven Convictions To Date Stemming From ICE Sting Operation
WASHINGTON – A Palestinian national and a former detective with the Colombian Department of Administrative Security (DAS) have pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and alien smuggling, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division and Assistant Attorney General Kenneth L. Wainstein of the National Security Division announced today.
Jalal Sadat Moheisen (Sadat), 49, a Palestinian national and resident of Bogota, Colombia, pleaded guilty in Miami before U.S. District Judge Joan A. Lenard to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, which is a State Department designated foreign terrorist organization.
Nicolas Ricardo Tapasco Romero (Tapasco), 45, of Bogota, Colombia, also pleaded guilty before Judge Lenard to one count of conspiracy to commit alien smuggling and two counts of bringing aliens to the United States for private financial gain.
Sadat and Tapasco were arrested in Bogota on Jan. 26, 2006, after their participation in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sting operation. The two men were extradited to South Florida on Feb. 15, 2007, and Jan. 3, 2007, respectively.
Sadat admitted that between July 2005 and January 2006, he facilitated travel to the United States for three cooperating government informants who posed as FARC operatives. Sadat not only agreed to smuggle the informants to the United States, but upon learning that their mission was to launder $4-5 million from the U.S. to Colombia, he offered to introduce them to a local emerald salesman who could carry out the transaction.
To facilitate the informants’ travel, Sadat made their flight reservations and contracted to provide fraudulent Spanish passports that permit entry into the United States without a visa. To assist the informants in falsely representing themselves as Spaniards, Sadat’s co-defendant procured fraudulent Spanish driver’s licenses, Spanish identity documents and Spanish trade association cards. Sadat also coordinated inspection-free passage through immigration at the Bogota airport by working with co-defendants Tapasco and Jorge De Los Reyes Bautista Martinez.
Tapasco, a 10-year DAS veteran detective, formerly assigned to the immigration division, admitted that in November 2005 he facilitated the departure of two cooperating government informants who posed as Colombian nationals seeking to enter the United States with fraudulent Spanish passports. Tapasco reviewed the fake passports, secured fraudulent exit visas and arranged the informants’ illicit passage through immigration inspection at the Bogota airport. In particular, Tapasco’s coordination led to the informants’ clandestine passage around immigration controls after his co-conspirator—a DAS immigration inspector—ushered one informant around immigration inspection booths and led another through a separate passage that bypassed immigration altogether. After the informants passed through security, they boarded flights to Miami and arrived in the United States holding their fraudulent Spanish passports.
Sadat and Tapasco’s price to smuggle the informants through the Bogota airport was $4,000 per traveler. Sadat also accepted more than $5000 to make flight reservations and obtain the fraudulent Spanish identity documents.
Under the terms of their plea agreements, Sadat and Tapasco face a maximum of 15 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. Sentencing before Judge Lenard is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2007.
Sadat and Tapasco are two of 10 individuals indicted by a Miami federal grand jury on terrorism, alien smuggling and money laundering charges on Jan. 3, 2006. To date, five other co-defendants in the case have pleaded guilty. Trial for the remaining defendants is set to begin on Jan. 22, 2008.
The case was investigated by the Office of the ICE Attaché in Bogota, Colombia. Trial Attorney Brian Skaret of the Domestic Security Section of the Department of Justice prosecuted the case. Support was provided by the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs’ Office of the Judicial Attaché in Colombia. The Department’s National Security Division provided assistance to the prosecution, and Assistant U.S. Attorney William White of the Southern District of Florida served as local counsel on the case. Valuable support was also provided by Colombian authorities.
