My fear is that one of these times, the “dots” of the dry runs/security probes will be connected in some horrific events.
The years I have spent reading The TM has certainly raised my awareness of my surroundings when I travel. I’ve reported what I deemed “suspicious” activity many times. So far, CAIR hasn’t come after me............and I wouldn’t ‘cair’ if they did.
Sounds like Godwin Goh has Australia’s best interest in mind. I hope he does well in the election. Thanks MamaD.

MANILA - A controversial Muslim congressman was the target of a powerful bomb blast outside the Philippine House of Representatives that killed him and two others, police said this morning.
Wahab Akbar, one of the most influential figures in the Philippines’ restive south, died in hospital last night as doctors fought to save his life.
A driver and a congressional aide were also killed.
Nine other people were injured in the blast, which hit the south lobby of the sprawling complex in the capital Manila just minutes after most congressmen had left for the evening.
Manila police Chief Geary Barias said today that investigators had found parts of a bomb and a cellphone apparently used to detonate the explosive, which was packed inside a motorbike parked next to Mr. Akbar’s car.
“They (the perpetrators) could see their target,” he said. “Those circumstances would show that the target was Congressman Akbar.”
Mr. Akbar, 47, twice served as governor of Basilan, a jungle-clad southern island used by the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf as a base from where they launch kidnapping and bombing raids.
The police chief said Mr. Akbar was known to be a former member of the Abu Sayyaf who later turned against the group and that this could have been a motive for the attack. He also would not rule out political conflicts in Basilan.

GOP Senators Criticize Funding Cut for Border Security

House-Senate Conferees on the Defense Department Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2008 reached agreement last week on the bill. The conference agreement, however, cut funding for border security by $3 billion, an action which brought about sharp criticism by several Republican Senators.
The $3 billion in funds would cover completion of 700 miles of border fencing and 300 miles of vehicle barriers. It also would pay for 23,000 additional Border Patrol officers and increase by 45,000 the number of beds available to detain illegal immigrants. It would also pay for 105 ground-based radars and surveillance towers along the border, along with four new unmanned aerial vehicles to patrol the U.S. – Mexican border.
The funds were included in the Senate version of the Defense bill, but were dropped in conference. A similar level of funding is included in the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill for F.Y. 2008, but the bill is currently awaiting conference.
In criticizing the action of the defense conferees, Sen. Jeff Session said: “What happened with this legislation is exactly why Americans don’t have confidence in the U.S. Congress.”
A senior Pakistani military commander has said that hundreds of foreign militants were intensifying their activities in the northern district of Swat, but vowed to use force in a ‘selective and precise’ manner to minimise the affect of military operation.
“Force is not the solution to anything. We want minimal application of force and not an indiscriminate military operation. We will use force in a selective and a very precise manner that is based on good intelligence and is most targeted,” Lt-Gen Muhammad Masood Aslam, Corps Commander, Peshawar, said.
The commander’s comments came a day after the military formally took control of the operation against the pro-Taliban militants, who now control six of the eight sub-districts of Swat.

Army helicopters, artillery hit militants in northwestern Pakistan, 16 fighters killed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Army helicopter gunships and artillery pounded suspected militant positions in a northwestern Pakistan mountain valley Wednesday, killing 16 fighters in three separate attacks against militants loyal to a rebel cleric, the military said.
Meanwhile, a dawn bomb attack on a military convoy wounded eight soldiers near the town of Batkhela in the hill resort of Swat, said Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad, the army's top spokesman. Security forces there have been battling supporters of the pro-Taliban cleric, Maulana Fazlullah, since July.
In one attack by security forces late Wednesday near the village of Hazara, six militants were killed while four others were captured. Ten other fighters were killed in raids in two other attacks in the villages of Matta and Shangla, Arshad said. "They are there in Shangla. We are trying to know the details, how many people they are and what is the situation on the ground," Arshad said.
On Tuesday, about 400 armed militants reportedly took control of Alpurai, another town in the valley about 160 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of the capital, Islamabad.

The United States has become a "national security state" that is using the so-called war on terror as a disguise to promote opposition to Islam, according to one of Indonesia's leading Muslims.
Din Syamsuddin, head of the Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's second-largest Muslim organisation, told Adnkronos International (AKI) that the Bush administration was exacerbating tensions with Muslims, especially in the Middle East. "The way the US government handled terrorism after the World Trade Centre bombing, by launching a 'war on terror' is insulting to the Muslim world and even other countries," Syamsuddin told AKI in Rome.
“Its unilateral approach includes three big mistakes - connecting terror action to Islam, by making generalisations, and the stigmatisation of the image of Islam, especially through the media."
Syamsuddin, whose organisation claims to represent 35 million followers, was in Rome to attend a conference on inter-religious dialogue, organised by the Indonesian and Australian Embassies to the Holy See.

FBI: Hole Deliberately Drilled In Nuclear Reactor Pipe

MIAMI -- An FBI investigation has found that someone deliberately drilled a hole into a pipe that is part of a nuclear reactor's cooling system at the Turkey Point power plant. The defect was discovered in March 2006 during a routine inspection. Officials said they don't plan to file charges because they don't have enough evidence to prove criminal intent.
"No one is being charged unless more evidence becomes available," said FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela.
An out-of-state contractor worker hired to do routine maintenance is suspected of drilling the 1/8-inch hole, Orihuela added, describing the incident as an act of vandalism. More than 700 utility workers were interviewed as part of the investigation. The public's heath and safety were not at risk, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said, so the act was not deemed to be sabotage.
A Florida Power & Light spokeswoman declined to comment on the investigation. The company had offered a $100,000 reward for information about the culprit.
