Rockford man pleads guilty in mall terror plot
A 23-year-old Rockford man charged a year ago in an attempted terror plot pleaded guilty today to attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction at a local mall.
Derrick Shareef, wearing a beard and a skullcap, said he understood he could face 30 years to life in prison but told U.S. District Judge David Coar that he wanted to plead guilty anyway.
In exchange for his guilty plea, Shareef made no deal with the government on the length of his sentence. His attorney declined to comment.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Sergio Acosta said Shareef attempted to buy hand grenades from an undercover agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Shareef’s attempt to set off grenades at the CherryVale Mall near Rockford during the 2006 Christmas holidays never came close to fruition because he was dealing with a federal informant all along......

CODEWORD for bin Laden: “under the black leaves”
Hearing focuses on ex-sailor’s calls
NEW HAVEN, Conn.Federal prosecutors on Wednesday played phone calls from a former Navy sailor accused of supporting terrorism by disclosing the location of ships, but the ex-sailor says a recent ruling against the Patriot Act made the calls illegal to intercept.
The phone calls were played in a court hearing to decide whether to admit the evidence in the case against Hassan Abu-Jihaad. Lawyers for Abu-Jihaad have argued that the calls and other evidence, such as e-mail searches, should be thrown out after a judge’s ruling in September that struck down portions of the Patriot Act.
In one phone call between the sailor and some friends, Abu-Jihaad is heard making what prosecutors said is a coded reference to Osama bin Laden, using the phrase “under the black leaves.” .....

BUSTED!!.... ANOTHER BOGUS IRAQI SLAUGHTER STORY!!!
(Updated and Bumped)
LAY THIS BOGUS IRAQI SLAUGHTER STORY TO REST...
Reportedly, on Sunday 11 close family members of Jordanian-based Baathist reporter Dia al-Kawwaz, who runs the online anti-Iraq newspaper Shabeqat Akhbar al-Iraq, were slaughtered in Baghdad. The attack occurred in the Al-Shaab neighborhood shortly after 7 a.m. Shia militia men shot dead two of Kawwazs sisters, their husbands and their seven children, aged 5 to 10. They then exploded the house on their way out.
This story was carried by dozens of media outlets around the world.
Even Reporters Without Borders reported the shocking news:
Reporters Without Borders took the Baathist bait- hook, line, and sinker:

About that horrible slaughter...
It didn’t happen!!
It was just a hoaxer that Reporters Without Borders failed to fact check.
** The Iraqi Interior Ministry emphatically said, “Kawwaz is lying.”
** The police in Baghdad have not confirmed the attack.
** Talisman Gate reported that Al-Iraqiyya TV has “categorically dismissed reports over the murder of Dhia al-Kawwaz’s family in Sha’ab City.” (Thanks, BG!)
** The Multi-National Force Iraq wrote me and reported that they had found no evidence to back up the fantastic story:

“Muslims of the Americas” tied to U.S. counterfeit trade!
In March, a counterfeit clothing ring based in New York City was busted. What makes this ring stand out more strikingly is that three of the eight arrested have ties to an alleged terrorist group located in the U.S. as reported by the canadafreepress.
On Wednesday, 14 November 2007, U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson sentenced Ronald Roundtree, 51, a member of the Muslims of the Americas camp in Virginia to 21 months in federal prison for his role in a multi-state, multi-million dollar counterfeiting ring.
The counterfeiting ring was busted by federal authorities on 7 March 2007, as announced by the United States Attorneys Office Eastern District of Virginia. In a press release, authorities announced the arrest of eight-(8) individuals in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and New York, as part of a FBI led investigation into trafficking in counterfeit goods and copyright infringement.
According to investigative reports, the counterfeit clothing ring led by Abbas CHOUMAN, 43, of Astoria, NY generated over $7 million in revenue. CHOUMAN was sentenced on Friday, 12 October 2007 to 57 months in federal prison for his role in the criminal copyright infringement scam. In September, HAQQ, PIERRE and HARMON were sentenced to 8, 24, and 27 month prison terms respectively for their roles in the operation; on August 2, Ishoc Uthman Ibn-Abdus SALAAM, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty by a federal jury in Richmond of attempted conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit goods. Additionally, Terri SINGLETON, 34, of Beckley, WV, one of ROUNDTREEs three wives, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit goods with ROUNDREE. SINGLETON received two years probation in a separate federal court penalty hearing last month.
As part of the investigation conducted by this agency, it was determined that three of the above named defendants, Ismail HAQQ, 33, Cherubin PIERRE, 32, and Ronald ROUNDTREE, 51 have ties to the Muslims of the Americas and Jamaat ul Fuqra encampments located within the United States and Canada. The headquarters for Jamaat ul Fuqra is located on the outskirts of Hancock, NY, nestled in a wooded area near the water reservoir that supplies the majority of fresh water to the greater New York City area.
Jamaat ul Fuqra is the Islamic terrorist organization operational within the United Stated and Canada that uses the Muslims of the Americas as an allegedly innocuous Islamic organization that is led by the Pakistani terrorist Sheikh Mubarek Gilani.

Thanks for the ping all4one, most interesting.
Very sad.

That’s really interesting.
Thank you Oorang and JellyJam.
Yep.
SNIP:
British laws earned the U.K. the labellibel capital of the Western world. Bin Mahfouz, and other terror financiers, known as libel tourists, use the British laws to veil in secrecy their funding of al Qaeda, other Islamic terror organizations and global propagation of radical Islam. Bin Mahfouzs legal victories in London - he never won on merit- had the desired affect he and other Saudi terror financiers sought: silencing of the media even in the U.S. where the First Amendment protects writers and publishers. But most American book and newspaper publishers are not willing to risk expensive lawsuits in London. In fact, most refuse to publish even the most comprehensively documented reports on alleged wealthy Middle Eastern funding terrorism. And most refrain from writing about this case.
” And most refrain from writing about this case.”
Yep.
