DEPRESSING news in the September edition of National Geographic: redheads are becoming rarer and could become extinct - some experts say the last redhead could be born by 2060.
Others say the redhead gene can disappear for a generation or two in a family and reappear...
...the proportion of the world's population with natural red hair is down to 2per cent...
On every level, that's surely a tragedy. Before we let this rare and precious species go, has anyone considered what it might be like to live in a world without redheaded women?
...Groucho Marx once admitted... "I don't know why, but whenever I dream of a nurse, she always has red hair. Red hair makes a man want to recover his health quickly, so that he can get on his feet and the nurse off hers."...
Sheer and entirely justifiable terror typically prevents people from joking about redheads in the way they do about blondes. In fact, there are some redhead jokes, but they read like tributes, oozing with awe.
...What is the difference between dating a redhead and putting your hand into a blender? There is a 50-50 chance the blender isn't on.
...If you love a redhead, set her free. If she follows you everywhere, pitches her tent in your front lawn and puts your new girlfriend in the hospital, she's yours.
In the US, they say a trucker will slow down for a blonde, stop for a brunette and back up 500m for a redhead...
A natural redhead is generously sprinkled with freckles and therefore comes with her own built-in board game, known as join the dots.
Yes, they'll be missed. As Mark Twain put it: "While the rest of the species is descended from apes, redheads are descended from cats."
Prrrr.

I had a childhood sweetheart who was a redhead, not fairskinned with freckles, but with dark tanned skin, and incredible legs! I was in fifth grade at the time, and she was really cute. I remember thinking about her the other day- I wonder what she looks like now.
Sadly, in this last year mine is also fading into gray. The head, of course, on this Irish lass.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, OH THANK YOU!!!
A truly stunning woman...
Maybe it's a Viking Thing...
I am married to a redhead.
The smartest thing I've ever done.
There is hope for those who crave women with red hair.
Just saw the Nova episode 'Ghost in Your Genes' about a new field called 'epigenetics'.
It is astonishing that what you eat or breathe can modify your genes that are subsequently passed on to descendents !
BUMP
"I truly hope that we don't loose our redheads. Please, redheads, go forth and multiply."
Just the wimmin folk, please...

Interesting, I've got dark brown hair, but my beard has dark red/brown color, though now it's about 1/3 gray. Nobody in my family has any red hair. And no, when I was conceived and born, we lived in a high rise apartment building in Yonkers, NY, with no postman or milk man who did deliveries to the 12th floor!

AWWWWRIGHT!!!
Nicole Kidman, except for my wife the most beautiful woman on Earth!
“Life’s a redhead. Bitches are easy.”
Don’t have a picture to provide, but Deborah Kerr, who just died, had glorious red hair. I rented “The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp,” in commemoration of her death. It was the movie that made her a star. There she is, age 21, playing three different women in the life of Clive Candy, radiating beauty and intelligence and flaming red-hair in glorious technicolour. Then, of course, we have her ten-years later making out with Burt Lancaster on the beach(and off-screen) in “From Here to Eternity.”
“As Lucille Ball, herself a redhead, said: “Once in his life, every man is entitled to fall madly in love with a gorgeous redhead.”
I did, and next June we will be married 30 years. And she gave birth to a red-headed daughter to carry on the tradition. I feel for my son-in-law, but, really, two redheads in the same house!
Just wanted to do my part...
Whenever I see a redheaded child, I remark, LOOK at that BEAUTIFUL child. Redheads really are gorgeous.
My son is engaged to a redhead, so it will be interesting to see if we have that recessive gene on our side. I hope so.
I did my best, but our kid just doesn’t have the red gene like I do. Oh well...
you, lad have done a greattttt service to the f/r community
and there will be a little extra something in your pay envelope this week...
mucho obligados.
Yah, me, too. Out of four, not one RED redhead, but my first is a light, light strawberry blonde. Curly, too, just like mom.
