California Fire Battalion Chief - Whoever Did This Knew What They Were Doing

October 22, 2007

Fire officials are now stating that the Orange County Santiago fire was purposely set and there is speculation that other fires may have also been deliberate. See Interactive Map

Fire officials found three separate “points of origin,” all near the intersection of Silverado Canyon Road and Santiago Canyon Road. Two were on one side of the road, and the third was on the other. “Whoever did this knew what they were doing,” said Kris Concepcion, a fire authority battalion chief. Also, the fire traveled 3 miles in its first 20 minutes when it was ignited about 6 p.m. Sunday, he said.

We are NOT implying that the California fires are an act of terrorism however; the threat of pyro-terrorist attacks pose a significant risk to the U.S. and the fires in California and in Greece earlier this year should be a wake-up call.

In 2003 an FBI memo alerted law enforcement agencies that an al-Qaeda terrorist being held in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States.

It was reported that the detainee, who was not identified, said the plan involved three or four people setting wildfires using timed devices in Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming that would detonate in forests and grasslands after the operatives had left the country.

“The detainee believed that significant damage to the U.S. economy would result and once it was realized that the fires were terrorist acts, U.S. citizens would put pressure on the U.S. government to change its policies,” the memo said.

How Can So Many Fires Be By Natural Causes ?

A Local News Radio talk show host in San Diego asked, “how can so many fires, in so many places, in such a short period of time, all be caused by natural causes”.

As we have stated before. If you see anything suspicious, report it to law enforcement immediately.

UPDATE: Video - Officials say arson now suspected in Orange County Fire

UPDATE: From Los Angeles Fox News

“I’m sad to report this is an arson fire,” OCFA Chief Chip Prather announced at an early morning briefing. “There were three separate starts: two on one side of the road and one on the other, and obviously we are actively investigating that.”

Links - A number of blogs and websites have sprung up to report on the fires. We will provide links to a couple we’ve found.

As usual the reaction in Cali is way overkill.

Only 1700 homes?

That is laughably small to disrupt the lives of a half million people.

Have there ever been fires in California that have done some real damage worth such an evacuation? At minimum, we are talking 5,000 homes destroyed....at minimum.

This round of fires will probably stop about 2 grand actually destroyed.

400,000 people were evacuated out of over-reaction.

I hear ya!

I seem to recall several news article a few years back that indicated information found on one or several captured terrorist’s computers indicated setting fires and draining resources were part of their plans.
They did it in Greece (which, strangely enough, was covered very little), so why wouldn’t they do it here?

So far we have mortgage defaulters, illegals in the construction trades, illegals fueled by resentment, forest fire fighters wanting full employment, ELF terrorists, Jihaddic Terrorists, local Islamic terrorists, destructive kids, and my personal favorite, Al Gore, on a motorcycle, wanting another Global Warming Proof that the debate is over.

There is evidence that both are commonly used - Santanas and Santa Anas.

See OC Almanac.

Hey, though, path of a fire and path of a tornado aren’t all that different. We all go to the basements needlessly for the most part and evacuation, unlike running down the basement steps, can’t happen at the last moment or you will get caught on the roads or block fire fighting measures coming to the fire front.

There was a conviction in one of the fires in the Sierra
about 10 years back or so... seems the local heavy equipment
owners involved liked the CDF contracts that come with wildland fires...

If it was terrorism related, I would say it would be the eco-freaks before any Al Qaeda types, especially given that it has affected a lot of liberals (including some high-profile ones), and the last thing Al-Q wants is to piss off people who are for ending the war in Iraq.

The eco-freaks on the other hand - there have been quite a few who would think nothing of wiping out all of the development they are against.

I guess I should have included long, left over, Japanese WWII airborne balloon incindiary devices.

no its a stupid and ignorant guess.

you should get a fact first before accusing people of arson.

I can see why some disparage this as a forum of haters.

>400,000 people were evacuated out of over-reaction.<

Have you ever seen 10,000 people trying to hurriedly evacuate using city streets from one small area. Total confusion is the result. Have just one car accident in an intersection and total confusion results UNLESS you have a police officer on foot directing traffic.

How many people do you know would ruin the paint job on their car bumper pushing a strangers vehicle to the curb so that the traffic behind him could flow smoothly? That is not a response commonly seen today.

Evacuating the 400,000 people was the intelligent thing to do.

There are enough homegrown pyromaniacs, who get turned on by the constant media barrage of flaming Hell photos, and then go out and start a few of their own.

I don’t think this is Al Quaeda-related. It’s a mixture of accidental fires and pyros acting out.

Those who oppose the use of Occam’s razor and what’s more go out of their way to multiply hypotheses and causes without bound are contributing what they can to the high purpose of indeterminacy.

Yeah IIRC the guy’s name was Oyler.....If it’s the same case that we’re thinking of.
