California Fire Battalion Chief - Whoever Did This Knew What They Were Doing

October 22, 2007

Fire officials are now stating that the Orange County Santiago fire was purposely set and there is speculation that other fires may have also been deliberate. See Interactive Map

Fire officials found three separate “points of origin,” all near the intersection of Silverado Canyon Road and Santiago Canyon Road. Two were on one side of the road, and the third was on the other. “Whoever did this knew what they were doing,” said Kris Concepcion, a fire authority battalion chief. Also, the fire traveled 3 miles in its first 20 minutes when it was ignited about 6 p.m. Sunday, he said.

We are NOT implying that the California fires are an act of terrorism however; the threat of pyro-terrorist attacks pose a significant risk to the U.S. and the fires in California and in Greece earlier this year should be a wake-up call.

In 2003 an FBI memo alerted law enforcement agencies that an al-Qaeda terrorist being held in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States.

It was reported that the detainee, who was not identified, said the plan involved three or four people setting wildfires using timed devices in Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming that would detonate in forests and grasslands after the operatives had left the country.

“The detainee believed that significant damage to the U.S. economy would result and once it was realized that the fires were terrorist acts, U.S. citizens would put pressure on the U.S. government to change its policies,” the memo said.

How Can So Many Fires Be By Natural Causes ?

A Local News Radio talk show host in San Diego asked, “how can so many fires, in so many places, in such a short period of time, all be caused by natural causes”.

As we have stated before. If you see anything suspicious, report it to law enforcement immediately.

UPDATE: Video - Officials say arson now suspected in Orange County Fire

UPDATE: From Los Angeles Fox News

“I’m sad to report this is an arson fire,” OCFA Chief Chip Prather announced at an early morning briefing. “There were three separate starts: two on one side of the road and one on the other, and obviously we are actively investigating that.”

Links - A number of blogs and websites have sprung up to report on the fires. We will provide links to a couple we’ve found.

Frightening to say the least. I guess they (if it ends up being a jihadist thing) want to show us what we can expect post-mortem if we submit?

Well thanks to the Sierra Club and the nutty tree huggers we will always be vulnerable to fires in California because nobody out there can cut down a freaking dead tree or clear brush without getting fined! Idiots.

Could get a nibble.

Probably gonna offer some big time rewards for tips. Fairly certain major fire in Orange County was arson. Also one of the big fires in San Diego was Arson.

As a law enforcement fire investigator, I have been involved way too many times in this type of investigation. I have been employed in my present position for 13 years, as a full-time fire investigator in a suburban county in Northern NJ. In those 13 years, we have arrested over 30 volunteers for the crime of arson. Many of these had multiple fires charged to them. We have a 100% guilty rate, as none of these persons ever took a case to trial. This is a huge problem in the volunteer fire service.

Pyromaniac sleeper cells imo. Then, they sneak across the northern border and hide out in Canada. They entered illegally probably a long time ago.

Additionally I was always struck by the love of fire among those firefighters caught in the Thirty Mile Fire in Eastern Washington.

As a firestorm raged toward them, one which killed 4 of them, they were taking pictures in apparent glee and telling two tourists who had been trapped with them to enjoy the view, how beautiful it would be when the firestorm passed them across the river. Unfortunately for some of them, the firestorm jumped the river....

BTW. We live due east of Fallbrook and while driving I looked to my left at the stop light and saw a Department of Homeland Security car next to me. Should I be worried or relieved? Honest to goodness!

If it were terrorism (as opposed to unaffiliated, home-grown loonies doing this), wouldn’t they have claimed responsibility by now? After all, you can’t terrorize people with your actions if they have no idea you did it, right?

That said, if Islamic terrorists had never considered this before as an easy way to create problems, they certainly will now. Watch out next fall....

Al Qaeda?

Don't give them any credit.

A Cub Scout knows how to start a fire in a place where there's so much dry tinder (which can't be cleaned up thanks to the enviro-wackos) that a sneeze can start a fire when the winds come rolling in.

We have PLENTY of home-grown idiots who don't give a damn about lives or property.

Concerning Pendleton, saw a live helicopter view of the Camp Pendelton Fire about 1 hour ago up. This was the fire located in the northern part of the base. The fire was in a line east to west. Appeared to be traveling north and west. Line was at least 6 to 7 miles long. Looked like it might reach the 5 freeway at the Secondary Border Checkpoint. If the 5 closes with the 15 still closed then San Diego County will be cutoff. Fire is also heading in the direction of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant. Appear to be 7 -8 miles south 1 hour ago. Plant obviously can survive a fire, but we have alot of secondary issues. Will the Plant be properly secured in the fire with resources spread so thin ? The main power line towers from the plant travel east over the 5 freeway. These initial; main towers are very tall and suspend the power distribution lines high over the freeway. I am assuming this is to prevent damage from exploding vehicle on the freeway (tanker truck). Further inland to the east the Power Lines switch to normal Power Line Towers which travel up over the Mountains for miles. This lines could be vulnerable to the fire line. The fire line when I saw it was coincidently parallel to the east west line that the power lines travel to go up into the inland mountains. Potential headaches here. If this plant goes offline because it loses its main distribution lines it could affect the entire Western Power Grid.
