WASHINGTON (AP) A House vote to label the century-old deaths of Armenians as genocide was in jeopardy Tuesday after several Democrats withdrew their support and sounded alarms it could cripple U.S. relations with Turkey.
The loss of support is a major setback to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, who have fiercely defended the resolution to Republicans and the Bush administration as a moral imperative in condemning the World War I-era killings of up to 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks.
President Bush called Pelosi on Tuesday to ask her not to call for a House vote on the resolution.
"The president and the speaker exchanged candid views on the subject and the speaker explained the strong bipartisan support in the House for the resolution," Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami said, noting that Bush initiated the phone call.

Thank goodness for the rise of internet communications and talk radio to counter the Demodogs stupidity. As little as ten years ago, this type of item would have sailed through a Congress, and Americans would might never have heard about the foolishness -— unless it were to become aware years later that a new war broke out because of some stupid diplomatic error on the part of the US.
The same was true of the Armenian Genocide measure. I only suggested the ones relating to Japan because like Turkey, Japan is an important ally in the War on Terror.
LOL!
“MURTHA ISNT BACKING NANCY??!!??”
I also would like to know sho the DEMS were that pulled away from Pelosi on this!
Yes, they initially knew what would happen but it looks like some of the idiots are now rethinking this round of their stupidity and are backing away. They can't even do 'stupid' right.
Eh. Don't overstate it. The point of the outrage is that 70% of our supply lines to troops on the ground in Iraq run through Turkey. That fact needs to be shouted from the rooftops, because the connection to treasonous intent is much easier to discern in light of it, given the Dems' public pledge to disrupt the President's policy and force a new one.
Better fix. There are no Democratics in the democrat party. They are all democrats, ergo it is the democrat party.
My first thought as well.
This one in particular comes from San Fransissy.
The point is that if this resolution is passed, it would ADVERSELY affect our war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan. Moreover, I believe the real reason is to play "defense" and shield Iran in case the President wants to bomb them, which I hope he will before leaving office.
Condemning Zimbabwe or Sudan won't have any ADVERSE effect on the USA.
That's how our beloved traitor RATs operate.

Worst American Citizen, ever.
You repeat yourself.
Nancy Pelousy is going to be the biggest reason to vote Republican next year. Even if the Dems win the majority again (which I doubt), I believe she is going to be told “you ain’t returning to Speaker, Honeybun, America really, really, REALLY hates your a$$.
I believe if the Dems keep the Senate (which I also doubt), Harry Reid is going to be told the same thing.
I call them Democrat-icks.
Pelosi has broken the glass ceiling - a true miracle.
Even Denny Hastert wasn’t this stupid. If Pelosi would pull a stunt like this during a time of war I’m worried about her mental health. She should step down from her leadership position. Is there anyone on the dem side of the isle with a brain left?
“My Gawd, where do we find such stellar idiots?”
San Francisco.
You assume they started with something.
