Illegal Left Turn

Homeland Security: New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer wants to make it easier for illegal aliens to get driver's licenses. He says it would make our roads safer. Safer for whom?

New York state is already home to half a million illegal aliens. Spitzer wants it to be even more of a magnet to those yearning to drive free after sneaking past the U.S. Border Patrol, even to those not coming here for a better life, but to do us harm.

Spitzer has announced an administrative policy change that says immigration status will no longer be an impediment to getting a driver's license. He reversed a post-9/11 state policy requiring valid Social Security numbers to get a license.

Under the new rule, foreign passports and birth certificates will be good enough. Proof of legal status is no longer required.

In 2002, Gov. George Pataki issued an executive order that required driver's license applicants to submit Social Security numbers to prove that they were legal residents or provide proof that they were ineligible for a Social Security card.

The rule made eminent sense. Pataki was mindful of the fact that the 19 9/11 terrorists had traveled around the country to states that handed licenses out like candy and acquired 35 of them. They knew how to game the system. Spitzer wants to improve the chances of future terrorists.

It would of been nice to know what this clown was up to prior to the elections, maybe ask a few New Yorkers their opinions of this idea. They have to pay for all this, they’er not all rich kids like him. Wonder whats coming next

That is an excellent question and I am sure most New Yorkers regret voting for him

Spitzer has got to be a smart guy to get where he is, so why is he acting so stupidly?

It's gotta' be so our attention is distracted from the fact he's an out and out crook who should be under federal investigation for crimes he's commited against people in the NY state legislature.

Looks like he's succeeding in distracting us though.

He WILL be reelected. You can take that to the bank. The RINOs will offer yet another sacrificial lamb (probably a retard like Jeannie Pirro) who will go down to defeat.

Today's NY Post offered this article:

September 27, 2007 -- Mayor Bloomberg yesterday openly questioned Gov. Spitzer's decision to allow illegal aliens to get a driver's license, saying City Hall's top lawyer doesn't believe the move will pass muster with the federal government.

"I am concerned about it," Bloomberg said, adding that he has already spoken to Spitzer about the issue.

Citing the opinion of Corporation Counsel Michael Cardozo, Bloomberg said that granting driver's licenses to illegal aliens would mean that legal citizens won't be able to use their driver's licenses for identification to get on commercial airplanes.

"Make it easier".

That's one of the favorite buzz-phrases of the Left these days.

Every time they "make it easier", it gets worse, as when Pelosi announced she would "make it easier" to get college loans. "Make it easier" means lowering the interest rate on the loan, enabling the student to take an even larger loan, and lowering the incentive for colleges to keep cost under control.

"Make it easier" = making the college student a Debt Slave for as long as possible, and more likely to default and require the taxpayer to eat it.

Yeah, I can hardly stand any more of this MAKE IT EASIER.

Flaming Idiots.

Careful there, sounds like you are explaining an economics lesson. We don’t want people in the US having economic clarity now, do we?

For his next re-election campaign he wants to be able to state that he has cut down on the numbers of citizens being killed by unlicensed illegals.

They are going to count them like citizens and get more house reps.

I was a legal temporary foreign resident alien in several foreign nations, and obtained permits to drive a privately owned vehicle in those nations.
First, I had to provide proof of drivers training, and meet insurance and vehicle inspection requirements of the permitting nation.
The primary sticking point was documenting my legal non-citizen “guest” status, in order to procure my license to drive.
That was in Western Europe, who have what is termed an “International” drivers license.
It is an embossed piece of paper, with no picture, but combined with all my other required photo-documentated proof of personal identification, allowed me to legally drive in several foreign nations...

Most USA citizens refrain from traveling to foreign nations, primarily due to lack of interest, or lack of funds.
Why would we?
It takes a lifetime to tour the USA.

I’m really surprised Bloomberg is against it. It’s repugnant enough to be right up his alley.

I couldn't’t understand how anyone who ever saw him could even consider voting for him for any public office. Look at him. Look at that face... the eyes. There is something very very wrong. Ever notice how even his campaign commercials never really made his face the focal point. always some angle...never the main focus on the screen. The ad people knew they had a weirdo and did all they could to camouflage it. Just my own personal opinion based on what I observed during the campaign. If someone saw something else, fine.

No, I don't necessarily think he put that much thought into it. If he had, he would have realized that if even one of his illegal licenses were to found in the possession of a terrorist attempting to carry out another atrocity in New York, that Bluest of states would turn "Red" overnight. I think that those who suggest that this is a new vote fraud mechanism are much closer to the truth.

I'll tell you what's going on here. New York State has become such a dysfunctional mess from an economic standpoint that normal middle-class Americans simply can't live there anymore. The state has to bend over backwards to accommodate recent immigrants from Third World sh!t-holes all over the planet because these are the only people who see New York as a place of opportunity anymore.

It’s sad what this country is reducing itself to. Some of our citizens just don’t learn from history.
1.) The evidence stated in the article proves that we will be allowing terrorist to come into the country easier and access everything they need to.
2.)We are telling the illegal immigrants, you come here illegally, you will get the same rights as HARD WORKING, LEGAL, ENGLISH SPEAKING, Americans!
What is Spizters argument? “The roads will be safer.” What is that? The roads will be just as dangerous, if not more.
Spizter is just bringing down America.
Every time I hear the national anthem, I’m sad. The beliefs our founders fought for are slowly dying.

If I had lots of money, I would spend the rest of my lifetime touring both USA and the Euro continent, having been privileged to tour a bit of both. Not to mention a six month side trip to Israel.

I was just thinking tonight, how long and expensive a Journeys of St. Paul tour would be. We're talking a lot of walking and boat trips. :)

If I'm still healthy enough 15 years from now, and the IRA's hold up, and the world hasn't gone completely to hell, it's travel time. God willing.
